Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Diamond & Pearl—Great Encounters

I expected this set to be named after the movie. DP: Darkrai v. Dialga v. Palkia or something. Great Encounters is better than those type of names (EX Deoxys anyone?). It'll have to do.

I thought the EX series showed that they stopped the pretence of giving expansions proper names. They should've just called it 'The Dialga/Palkia set'. I mean, wasn't that what EX:Deoxys was all about?

^ It was really late when I typed that, and when I'm tired I can't type or spell.

Lies! He posted at 09:24 PM!

lol, jk.

I do wonder if they will give us a bunch of Lv. X in this set and increase the number of Lv. X per box... Hm...

But Fosil Excivator?? plz That dosn't sound like there was any effort to make it sound more natural for english speaking ppl.

Since Fossil Excavator was called "Shinsekihakkutsuin" in Japanese, I definitely think the translator did a good job of making it sound more natural to native English speakers when she chose to name it Fossil Excavator instead. But maybe I'm wrong - I'm not a native English speaker, after all.

Joking aside, I think you missed my point. It's actually possible to write English with Japanese characters. Some Pokémon attacks and Trainers have English names in Japan, but it's hard to see for people who don't read Japanese "katakana" characters. Some times, these English names sound cool to Japanese people, but strange to native speakers. Thus, they have to be changed when they are brought to an English-speaking market.

I think what some of you are misunderstanding is that Pokémon USA's translations and Nanimonoka's/Bangiras' translations are parallell works. The one isn't based on the other. Thus, the cards you find in your packs didn't get their names changed from the names you saw on online spoilers. They were translated from the same Japese origin, by two different translators with different interpretations of the Japanese names.

My gut feeling is expect 2-4 lv.Xs in GE and then another 2-4 in the next set, not 6 in one and 3 in the other.

Unfortunatley this is doubtful. Garchomp may not come to america at all, or purhaps as a pop-pack card (as compensation for POP6). Cress and the eeveelutions (or atleast the eeveeloutions) will most likely be in DP5. Great Encounters isn't terrible, but i think it could be alot better. The set should be pretty good, hopefully they won't pull any stunts like they did to Secret Wonders. The Lv.X's will probably be the 3 legendaries, and either (or neither really) Cress X or Pory-Z X.

You think Porygon Z lv X is more likely than Garchomp lv X?

Remember that there are two versions of Garchomp lv X availbale in Japan now: One that came with the DP3 Visual Book, and one with new (and even cooler) artwork that came in DP4 booster packs. The latter should come in boosters outside Japan too, I don't see why it shouldn't. As for the former, it could appear anywhere at any time, just like all other Japanese promo cards.

You mean something like oh ... perhaps a tin? (lays down $5 to wager that the Garchomp Lv.X from the DP3 book will come with a tin a la the Lucario Lv.X)

It looks like POP put up the set name by accident.

Paleontologist, sounds much more natural to native english speakers, then Fossil Excavator.

Fossil Excavator just sounds like a direct translation, with no effort to fix it up.

Now back on topic, I think that DP 4 could be one nasty set.

Prepare for the Lock Down, and Leafeon!!

I think Dialga, Palkia, Darkrai and Cresselia will be next set Lv Xs. And Porygon, Garchomp, Leafeon and Glaceon will be released in DP5.
