The time has come. Finaly there will be a huge Pokémon event, that could show that Europe is allied and strong. During the magical weekend 9.10.-10.10.2010 will be held an unique event called

PRAGUE POKEMON EUROPEAN CUP

What is planned?

  • Unique modified event that could hold hundreds of players
  • Special sponsorship prices (hundreds of EUR), 32-K value
  • Comfortable accomodation with unbeatable prices in the same building as Event
  • Low entrance fee 5 EUR, special welcome kit for everybody
  • Lot of Side events
  • Introduction of Czech leagues and cities in which are held
  • Lot of other programs, like famous czech VIP persons, beat the local Pro and lot more

Feel free to look for more at: www.pokeworld.eu/european-cup. It shows detailed program of the event.

Prereservations until 31.8.2010
Please use the form for reservations in the hotel (see the event pages). This is the only way how to have clear overview of how many people would come. And also this is the only way how to get special price for the accomodation (40 EUR / doubleroom / night, with breakfast, in 4 star hotel near metro) and more benefits during the stay. We need to get at least 100 guests to the hotel until 31.8.2010 to get special price for the conference hall, so please count with that. That is also a deadline for the special price prereservation.

Lets show US that we are united and that our tournament deserves bigger support. We need you to help us! Without great participation, there will be no support.

Thanks you all and let me know if you have any questions...

Prague (Praha) Ruzyne ;-)... There is a public transport going from the airport for 26 CZK which equals 1 EUR. Or you could order a direct shuttle to the hotel (please use the sheet even for this - there is an option ;)). Travelling in Prague is very cheap and versatile...and restaurants as well - draught/draft beer for 20-25 CZK and meal for 3-4 EUR ;-). Good old Prague - nice architecture ;-) Visit us - be amazed ;-)

Some people from outside Europe asked me if they are allowed to play in this tournament. Can they participate?

Everybody welcome ;-)... thats for sure ;-) we will be honoured to welcome players outside Europe.

About invites - PCI still hasn't responded about the support. Postponed to date 1.9.2010, which is after our deadline. Sorry, but I could do nothing about that... I am only some European...

Feel free everybody... hope to see ya

I'm from canada and will be visitng germany at around this time so I'm definitely interested in going. If there were worlds invites, I'd 100% be there =P

Please, don't even think this event will get invites.
The only way I can see invites being handed out is: If POP/TPCI runs a big tournament themselves in Europe (or selects some people to run it).
But they will never ever give them to a new/random organizer and also not at the start of the season.

My first impression was this weekend is to introduce OP for people of that country.
Which is a great idea.
But calling it the "European Cup" isn't, that name should be reserved in case we get a real (by POP organised) event.

This is simply a Special Premier Event which amazingly got a very high K-value.
I like it when such tournaments happen during the season, it gives a reason to travel.
I like it, it's announced overhere so we are aware it is happening (and not like that UK tournament who was announced only a few days prior, that should never be allowed)

I don't like it this tournament will be cancelled if not enough people are using the Hotel, there should be a second venue arranged to go to in case the agreement with the Hotel is cancelled.
Also is it 100 Guest to the Hotel, or is it 100 rooms booked? Major difference.

We are planning giving a winner a travel award or a travel support in a form of sponsorship of his way. Has any of the previous organisers done that? I am asking for 1 or 2 invitations to just making it spicy ;). I think they would never organise bigtournaments themselves - it is too far and it would be too expensive. It is time to support the local organisers that could handle it. Who do you think you are calling me a new/random organiser? I am the leader of OP play of CZ and SK Republic for more then 6 years, member of Pokémon conference and an experienced guy in organising big events (Such as GP Prague or Magic nationals with hundreds of people attending)

This is the second part of the tournament showing leagues to our people - that is the main reason why local LD supported the event. And it is great opportunity how to learn something about czech OP and cities... Itis worth the name, I could support the event well even myself - giving the players travel award and other benefits.

It is a special event, I am triing to present. It would be great if it would be successful and if we give a good example of good promo to others to help them in their efforts. The winners of my tournament even could use the travel award to the Benelux cup for example or other European tournament.

I got my venue that can hold up to 80 people in separated rooms. You know it is quite hard to get a venue for very low price. I am triing this and it gives me opportunity to award the winner a travel award. In other cases I use entrence fee to pay the rent of the hall or to pay staff. This is kind of special and I am giving a try to this type of event. If it is not successful, no problem for me. It would save me a lot of time, effort and some more money. If it is successful, others could use the same way - to offer hotel many reservation in exchange of low cost conference hall...100 guests would be enough...

Respect.

To answer your first question, yes it was done.
The French distributor wanted to give trips to Worlds a few years ago (yes paid trips not a partly award) and they didn't got invites. This tournament was also called European Cup.

And I agree there is enough manpower to do a big tournament in Europe, but it should be done at request of POP/PUI which isn't the case in this matter. It should be done with joined international forces.

And who I am, I was already fighting for a separation between OP and distribution from the very first day PUI took over Pokemon, starting my lobby at Gencon 2003.
I have been talking/requesting for a (or more) major tournaments in Europe from the first day OP started.
I have seen OP leaders/Managers do terrible things.
I have seen Distributors almost killing this game, due to their lack of interest in the players.
I also have seen Distributors who did a good job, but for some countries in Europe the current system is plain wrong.

You might have experience in running big tournaments of Magic, which is good, but Magic is not Pokemon.
Magic players are most times (young adults) and in Pokemon you have to take care of minors.
Which means in Europe you need translators and I do think we need support of POP/PUI to make this happen.
POP can make each country sending a judge/translator to a big event, while solo distributors cannot make that happen, distributors are not really into something called 'joined forces" (unless something changed 180 degrees and I am not aware of it).

So yes I call you a random organiser, who might have good experience but still as long as POP did assign you the task to organize a European tournament you be as random as anybody else.

If your LD really wants to be on the map, the tournament would happen even without enough players.
Than you make a statement as LD.
What I read between the lines, your LD wants something big but it should not cost to much.
Your LD wants to introduce OP to the people of your country but only if there is enough international attendance to do this.

Just tell me what happens if there are less than 100 guests in the hotel before sept 1?

Sure it's great to have Special Premier events, we don't have enough of them.
Each country should have a K-32 tournament during the season,

Again I am not against big tournaments, lets say I am suprised a high K value tournament is allowed so early in the season.
Also if you are into Pokemon as long as you say, you also know that the new season starts sept 1st.
Which makes it kind of hard to figure out if K-32 is important enough to travel or not.
Who says we will have the same K-value/tournament structure in 2010-2011 as we had last year?

You have a nasty deadline, perhaps we will have information about the new season before the end of this month, I really hope so.

I know all the 3-people-rooms are finished and only a few double and single are free.
I guess the numbers are reached!!

BTW, i don't want to think that there's the possibility for the tournament to be deleted.
Tons of friends of mine has already booked plane and alternative hotels...

andceo: alternative hotels? LOL, I should've told it better to book mainly in the hotel DUO. I hope the numbers will be reached. I phoned them on Wednesday and there were only few reservations made this way. The manager phoned me today notifiing me about some more. But if possible please change the accomodation for hotel DUO to reach the numbers. Thanks

Rainbowgym: If the hotel will decide to not support the event with low rent, I will try my best to get another venue or use the one I mentioned above. I got some contacts. Especially when I see such a big interest in the event...

It's really strange because i know some italians asked for rooms to the Hotel DUO and it was full.
I'll inform them...

I would make it if someone sponsor me AU$2000 but from the looks of it, it would be fun. Hopefully if there is one next year, I would be surely able to make it.

Good luck to all of ya's.

andceo: Some italians already booked their rooms - thanks. I am in contacts with one of them.

Jason: Ok EU CUP 2011...yeah lets suprise everybody with numbers of attendance in 2010 and then lets run EU CUP regularly ;-) You could count with me ;-).

Feel free

Tomas

Contrary to some other posts, I would like to applaud Snox for giving us this great event. :thumb:

This is a great opportunity and something Europe has been missing for far too long. I also know some "reliable" people in Europe are purposely trying to 'sabotage' this event by distributing false information about this event (I wont post their names until I'm 100% sure its them). This makes me so sad. Please keep us informed Snox, and I'll pass the information along to other people.

Big ups to Snox and thinking big!

Oh thanks Lickylicky! I think we could do it ;-) Due to such support as your post I will never give up and will get venue for this under any circumstances ;-). Yes unfortunately it seems for some persons my effort in this is not appreciated - they understand it as a threat... dunno what is behind of it, but I got some ideas, but lets investigate a bit more...anyway thanks for your supporting post. This cheered my efforts ;-).

Go go everybody - get united ;-)

Feel free... T.

What kind of false information are you talking about?
I think most information can be found here (unless I missed something) and it's the TO answering questions so what can be wrong?

I don't see any difference between this event and any other K-32 event (like the Benelux cup or whatever).
If there are not enough players, Snox will try to run the tournament at another venue, which is good.
Rooms can be cancelled, flights cannot.
