answer to the muligan question... you have to have the copycat in hand in order to take advantage of your opponents big hand. With 4 copycats you will still not have a copycat in hand ,after your muligan(s), 60% of the time. With only three Copycats this worsens to 67%

dump the energy restores, and add another elm and a copycat. The dificulties that yor deck is likely to experience will all be early game. (I still think that you need three colours for lady outing to truely realize her full potential: drop a lightning and add one psychic???)

OK, -2 Energy Restore, -1 Lightning Energy, +1 Elm, +2 Psychic Energy. Unfortunately, I didn't even have one Copycat available.

While there's no offical ruling on exactly what the new modified (e-on) is going to be. I believe the san diego sandstorm prerelease set a precedent b stating their e-on format to only allow cards printed after expedition.
to quote bulbasnore, Expedition - September 2002
Aquapolis - January 2003
Skyridge - May 2003
EX Ruby & Sapphire - June 2003

That squares with my recollection.

So, that would include:
- all the WOTC Promos marked BEST, as they started Dec 2002.
- the Nintendo Promos with the BLACK STAR in the R/S style.
- WOTC Promos with BLACK STAR and numbered 49-53.

Made some major changes, so I'm posting the new decklist.

Pokemon (21):
1 Magmar ex
4 Torchic (2 Singe, 2 Fireworks)
4 Combusken (2 Natural Cure, 2 Double Kick)
4 Blaziken (2 Flamethrower, 2 Firestarter)
2 Electabuzz (Base)
3 Skitty (Plus Energy)
3 Delcatty (1 Rare, 2 Uncommon)

Trainers (23):
4 Professor Elm
2 Juggler
2 Professor Elm's Training Method
3 Lady Outing
2 Potion
2 Pokemon Nurse
2 Town Volunteers
2 Switch
2 Energy Switch
2 Fisherman

Energy (16):
12 Fire Energy
4 Electric Energy

Strategy and notes: I switched from the 4-4 Manectric line to a 4-3 Delcatty line (which would have been 4-4 if it had been possible), filling in the space vacated by the 4th Manectric with a tech Scyther ex. I changed the Electric Energy to Grass to power it, dropping one for a Fire because of its lower Energy needs. I'm using Electabuzz to cover my Water Weakness. The Delcatty may not cover my Weakness like Manectric was intended to, but they combo better with Blaziken, and should still fare fairly well against a Water deck. The Rare Delcatty was added not as much for the usual reasons as for combo potential and to bring the line to 4-3, although its power should work out well with Blaziken, as it is a mini-Juggler. Its attack, however, does fit quite well in the scheme of the deck, for the same reasons as its Uncommon counterpart. The Skitty even get in on the act, giving me an extra free Energy attachment.
Main strategy is to use Blaziken's Firestarter (and, to a lesser extent, Uncommon Delcatty's Energy Call) to power up itself, the other Blaziken, or either Delcatty, discarding Energy with attacks, Trainers, or Powers to use Firestarter. My only major concern now is the high number of Supporters (13). The three singles are not much of a concern for me, although I do wish I had a second Rare Delcatty to add. The last version of this deck was actually fairly reliable, and it didn't even have the synergy that I think this one will. I can stall with Magmar ex while setting up, if needed, or I can use it mid to late game for stall or attack. I would appreciate any comments or fixes, although I would ask that no Sandstorm cards be suggested, as I do not have any. The Delcatty's will mainly be late game attackers, since they need higher amounts of Energy to deliver big hits.

May I ask why, Shadow? The Manectric line worked well, yes, but didn't really synergize with the rest of the deck.

Hmmm... it is true that Water is a big concern for this deck. Thing is, I really do want to use the Delcatty line, and a Stage 2 line and 2 Stage 1 lines in a deck probably is not the best of ideas. I'd splash in Electabuzz ex if I had it, but I don't, so that's out. Since Best Promos are allowed, do you think Electabuzz would be a good idea? I do have plenty of it.

Another good Electric basic, the Riakuo from Skyridge. With Blazekins Power it would be easy to pump him up, even with anoying power. Also, I think going straight Firestarter Blaziken is a great idea. Plus the whole, Dump the energy to draw 3 (Delcatty) and Suck the discarded energy and add it to a benched Poke is awsome. A friend has a simular deck and it rocks.

The thing is, I only have 2 Firestarter Blaziken. Besides, the other Blaziken makes a good cleaner. If you're suggesting switching to all Rare Delcatty, the problem with that is that I only have 1. I don't see the logic on Raikou, and I don't have that card. In fact, the only good E-on legal Electric Pokemon I have are SK Electrode (I can do a 3-2 line using SK Voltorb and SK Electrode), Manectric (the line I had before was my best possible version) and Electabuzz (mine are Base, but the reprint rule applies, since it was a Best Promo). Thanks for your suggestions, though. Maybe if I can get a hold of the right cards, I'll try them.

[EDIT] For now, I'm dropping Scyther ex and the 2 Minor Errand-Running Skitty for 2 Base (reprinted as Best) Electabuzz and 1 Plus Energy Skitty.

Question. Since, as I've just heard today, Best Promos will not be allowed in E-on Modified after all, I will be changing the Electabuzz to Electabuzz ex (I'll be getting them soon). But what should I do with the slots I have to free up by dropping Elm? I would simply use Copycat, if I had any available, but I don't. The best card-drawing I have still available is 2 Professor Oak's Research and 4 Bill's Maintenance. Suggestions?

I have always had the theory that the Sky Moltres will work as a great non-ex BBP with Blaziken. Though I have not played a Blaziken deck yet.

It's is a good deck after all, but what if you add the Ho-oh promo, I think that is the last promo from wizards, but I'm not sure. :(

Now there's an interesting idea. Too bad I don't have that Moltres, but if I ever get my hands on a couple, I'll be sure to consider them. Supposing I wanted to put in two of that Moltres, what cards would you suggest taking out for them? Preferably Pokemon -- I'm already a little high on them as it is. The Ho-oh, unfortunately, is not legal.

Well, I finally got some Sandstorm cards, and I'll be posting an updated decklist once there's one to post, but I would like advice on something. I now have 2 SS Electabuzz and 2 Electabuzz ex. Which would be better for this deck, or should I try to put in both?

OK, here's my plan for the edited decklist. I'm waiting for the Copycats to arrive, but I have everything else.

Pokemon (22):
4 Torchic (2 Singe, 2 Fireworks)
4 Combusken (2 Natural Cure, 2 Double Kick)
4 Blaziken (2 Flamethrower, 2 Firestarter)
2 Electabuzz (SS)
4 Skitty (Plus Energy)
4 Delcatty (2 SS, 2 R/S Uncommon)

Trainers (22):
3 Copycat
2 Juggler
2 Professor Elm's Training Method
3 Lady Outing
2 Potion
2 Pokemon Nurse
2 Town Volunteers
2 Switch
2 Energy Switch
2 Fisherman

Energy (16):
12 Fire Energy
4 Electric Energy

Strategy & notes: A few changes. The Delcatty line became a 4-2/2 split, using Plus Energy Skitty, R/S Uncommon Delcatty and SS Delcatty. Although the Rare Delcatty would probably work well for me, I dislike singles, and don't have another of that Delcatty. Electabuzz simply changed versions -- and this version is pretty impressive. As early as turn 2, I can be delivering fairly big hits to the targets of my choice. Unfortunately, my Supporter count is now up to 16! I'll be looking into ways to lower this number.

I did some testing on the above version tonight. Although I was a little slow to get up and running, due to an early Energy shortage, once I did get set up, it went pretty well. Both Delcatty turned out to be very good as attackers, especially with Blaziken's help. At the end of the match, I had a Sandstorm Delcatty with 6 Fire Energy on it! It was a close match, though -- my opponent took 5 prizes over the course of the match. I guess this proves that one CAN build a good E-on deck without using any Pokemon-ex.

[EDIT] Still working on ways to decrease my Supporter count. Please do not suggest Rare Candy -- although I am certain it would help, I currently only have 1 available, and I don't like singles. I am considering [read: undecided, changes not made yet] changing the Fishermen and one Town Volunteers to Energy Restores.

Question: Did Pokenav ever get ruled on? Or are we still in the dark about the resolution if the three cards are all Trainers?

I would still appreciate any comments or fixes for this deck. I would especially appreciate suggestions on:
  • Lowering my Supporter count,
  • finding room for SK Moltres (if I can get any),
  • whether to change my setup of Torchics and/or Combuskens (Torchic can become 4 of either, Combusken can stay as is or go to 4 Natural Cure, but I maxed out on the Double Kick version), AND
  • Ways to get set up quicker. Unfortunately, I only have 1 Rare Candy at the moment, so please don't suggest that one :(

True. The reason I was considering the Moltres is because Blaziken gets around its Poke-Body, and its attack is fair for a Basic, but you're right that it's not all that good. True, it is theoretically possible, with my best possible setup, for him to drop late in the game, and be fully powered on its second turn in play, but it's a lot of effort to go through for a 60-damage attack.
