Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Format Change for Next Year - Possible Change for Nats and Worlds!

Seems to me those upset about the League Promos being rotated out of modified need to petition their local League to play under an unlimited format (or even an extended-type format).

My local league plays under an unlimited format and I'm just happy the new players have access to cards like Broken Time Space and Roseanne's Research and Uxie. It will improve their decks, even if not tournament legal, greatly.

Unlimited play was never an issue.

The issue is that now League will be divided as such as a definite- those who play modified, and those who play unlimited. As far as play goes, at least.

The issue with league promos is that they were released, and then pulled from tournament play. Now I understand they are league promos, but now it feels as though they are league promos for league play, further thickening a line between competitive/casual and unlimited/modified.

I love how everybody is acting like there is a rotation for nats when they said if they deem it neccassary. Unless I missed something.

I think that if P!P was to not rotate to HGSS on at nats after posting this, it would outrage a lot of players, including myself. I think HGSS on for nats will be amazing, and will really test the skill of the players

also majority rules

I find that it's much easier for the competitive modified-format players to meet the casual players at their level than it is for the casual unlimited-format players to suddenly gain a competitive and modified-legal deck.

Honestly, I feel I will be in for an disadvantage when I go to League after the rotation because those unlimited players will be able to take advantage of great League promos such as Claydol, Uxie, Rosanne's Research, Bebe's Search. I find that a challenge. It'll show if my HGSS-on decks are actually decent.

Can't be perfect but there was room here to do better

I just want to take the time to make this post on the 11th or so page because as I understand it P!P reads here. I'm a pokedad that has invested a lot of time and money into this activity with my son, and well here is my feedback.

The game went from not so good to awful. You had to do something, and it is good that there is activity. However, I cannot help but get the impression that the your organization is managed as too reactionary.

A rotation is necessary, but I really wish it was planned as RR on (errata candy being fine) or something similar, which would be fun, slower, diverse and a lot less financially disruptive. This enormous rotation seems over reactionary and unnecessary, and frankly I went from being depressed about having wasted our time in a bad product/game which was only getting to worse to being depressed about loosing so much investment in one big swoop.

I think Lv.X was a great and well done concept across the board for SP and evolution. Just eliminating up to PL and the Team Galactic cards would have made a very interesting and diverse working set. Based on everything I read, I think that many of the better players would provide such feedback if asked.

Since a rotation at all was not committed, it would probably have been better to have left the door open for how much was going to go as well. Take the time to do better research, and try to find the best situation for your customers.

I'm so excited! Definately hope they change it to hs-on. Despite the occasional baby that can't be competant enough to make a new deck, this will be a huge up for everybody! :*D

This rotation will definately be amazing for the game. Since you cannot evolve on turn one(no BTS) almost all the donks with evolved pokemon got removed. In HGSS-On, you almost always will have a turn to set up.

But what happens when League ends? When tournament play begins? That same philosophy applies- League players will have a difficult time to gain a competitive and modified legal deck. And those that can't will admit- Why bother, when the promos, free things, incentives, products, and so forth have been pushing for Majestic Dawn cards forward right up to the moment they get rotated.

At the same time, the cardpool has DROPPED significantly. Look at these numbers:

Majestic Dawn: 100
Legends Awakened: 146
Stormfront: 106
Platinum: 133
Rising Rivals: 120
Supreme Victors: 153
Arceus: 111

Discluding reprints and energy cards, that's 869 cards LEAVING.

HGSS: 124
Unleashed: 96
Undaunted: 90
Triumphant: 102
Call of Legends: 106

The HGSS series has only 518 Cards at most. This, however includes two KEY factors. First, Energy Cards are in both HGSS and Call of Legends. Second, there is a limited number of cards unique to Call of Legends. Realistically, we may be looking at a total of roughly 450 unique cards on a good day.

Black & White: 115

Black & White brings a HGSS rotation to a present stop at roughly 550 different cards. I say roughly because I don't include any HGSS promos or BW promos.

Now add in to the fact that unlike other card games, Pokemon has a rule that no more than 4 pokemon of the same name can be in the same deck. Therefore, pokemon such as Pikachu, Eevee, the Unova Starters, and many of the basic BW pokemon also limit that number because you can't run everything (Irrelevant, know, but felt the need to point that out). Additionally, if you consider running 4 Pikachu from BW, that means you can't run any Pikachu from previous sets. Why you would, don't know, but your options are further limited in that the other variations of Pikachu are not something else you may need for a deck. This works reverse, as well. Voltorb-Electrode now has a strict evolutionary line in that your selections on Voltorb are down to one with two variations of Electrode.

So my point in this big scheme of things is this: Everyone is complaining about a Sabledonk format. Well is this the alternative? A Limited cardpool of 500 cards, possibly less due to pokemon variations, all battling for a power-creep instead? You all say there is no diversity, and yet here we are with a small selection. It won't take long for players to grab on to a new top-tier-deck; and now that we are mimicing Japan, players will just copy their decklists instantaneously.

Again, I welcome change, but I feel that mere conformity to Japan is a poor way to do it.

Everythign is better then sabledonk format. And starting from scratch should happen every year, the game can finally evove anew :)

so ummm what do I play now...no more charizard....raichu but without Rayquaza and Raichu X...no gyrados...i mean black and white is good but no more BTS....this isn't that great....

yaaa i guess so...back to the drawing board and to think...i went all nutz for uxie and company....lol...HG/SS-on sets arent that great tho....

Will Dialga Lvl x, garchomp Lvl x, and gengar x not be legal for tournaments anymore?

Ima feel really bad when I drop all my trades because of this.

People who are complaining about Arceus and SV not being in the rotation:

Why are you assembling, let alone purchasing older sets, before rotation is said, after new rules are announced in Japan, when the cards from HGSS onwards are specifically made for HGSS On and HGSS On was one of, if not the, most likely rotation because of the environment?

Maybe people should stop complaining about money and start spending it wisely? ie, buy the damn cards/box when they come out, not later. When starting/restarting, go with the new stuff and wait for the game to catch up?

Blisters be buggered, same with Tins, I thought it was known that the older packets were fillers.

But another question is what about double colorless energy and rescue, warp, call energy Idk what set they are from so Idk if they are still legal

Um..what? The game is designed in Japan. The fact that we've gone so long WITHOUT this conformity is baffling to me.

Because Japan has more cards. Maybe not so many, but more nonetheless. Trying to keep up is a waste; we will never be even. We still have more cards from B&W to see, promos, and now Red Collection. To keep it fresh we NEED to be different. The game may be designed in Japan, but it's played in other places. No one seems to grasp that. We should be taking information from Japan as R&D and changing the game for our benefit.

More does not equal better. The current format is stale and dead because out of all those cards, a select few have rendered the rest unplayable. There are a ton of possibilities that open up once SPs and their ludicrous speed are dead and buried. I certainly will not cry over their loss.

Also, you're effectively complaining about what happens every single year. Every season we start with a limited cardpool that grows over the course of the year. The HS-on rotation looks a lot like the standard rotation prior to DP -- starting the season off with a small number of sets that players had to be very creative with.

Why should we not conform to Japan? It's their game, they should know how best to design it. The only reason this entire early rotation hoopla exists is because we opted not to conform to their format. Japan designs the cards for Japan's format, not ours. We should match whenever it makes sense. At no time is that more clear than now.

^ This.

It's very clear you don't understand how this works at all.

Japan creates the game. We just translate it. There is no "changing the game for our benefit". There is one game called Pokemon, and Japan controls it.
