Garchomp/Altaria deck help

i don't know i played the deck with no switches while it effiicient, but if you get pulled in to a stall with catcher and you need an energy to attack an a energy to retreat. I feel the deck needs eenergy desperately. also in status effect + wanting to use max potion.

This is my current list i'm testing

4-3-4 Garchomp
3-3 Altaria
3 Emolga

4 N
4 Cheren
3 Juniper
1 Bianca

4 Pokemon Catcher
4 Level Ball
3 Rare Candy
2 Tool Scrapper
2 Max Potion
2 Super Rod

7 Fighting Energy
4 Blend Energy WLFM

Not sure about my supporter line yet, may drop a Juniper for another Bianca or a RR as you really don't want to be forced to discard valuable resources.

Tool Scrapper can be a dead card in some matches obviously but it's invaluable against Quad Terrak, Darkrai, Garbador etc. Could consider using Rescue scarf to have a quicker turnaround on Altarias but i find 2 Super rod does enough.

Max Potion is helfpul against spread damage decks to preserve your Altaria and deny prizes as well as healing Garchomps when necessary to keep up a stream of attackers.

Other than that i would consider the rest of the deck 100% set in stone. I''m sure some people would go up to a 4-4 line of Altaria but i'm not sure how that would effect consistency as 3 seems adequate. I'd rather have some different options when it comes to trainers that your opponent may not be expecting e.g max potion, tool scrapper.

I definitely wouldn't add in any form or Terrakion as this deck thrives on speed and you would then need to run 2 switch to justify playing it. It's just as easy to take down a Darkrai with Garchomp.

Not sure about playing little Rayquaza. It doesn't really help in the mirror that much when i've played agaisnt it, i think that card helps out Eel decks much more.

Almost identical to something I was thinking of, maybe, -1 level ball, +1 switch, or find some space for 2/3 max potions. Other than that (and I'm not 100% that -1 level ball, +1 switch would help the deck), a very solid and possibly tournament winning list there.

Please don't do this. You really don't need switch that badly.

Yuta's winning list ran 2 Switch. It's very useful for getting you Turn 1 Call for Family with Emolga. It can help you save energy drops if they catcher up your Altaria. It seems useless, but it's really not. Just try it out.

switches are not needed i ran them for a week or two of playtesting, but always encounter the problem of catcher and needing to retreat but didnt have extra energy to spare. +2 switch made it really nice and got you out of status problems too. In addition if you start off with a gible or swaibu you could level ball emolga and setup.

I'm confused. If you had switch why did you need extra energy to retreat?

Fluffy... CHAMP!

Been testing Fluffy'Chomp for about a month very heavily. I have some decent insight into this deck.

2 Switches - Highly recommended for the first turn CFF, ensures a full fledged push for this decks full potential almost definitely.

Scrap the Scrappers - With Altaria in this deck the Tool Scrappers are waste of space. He will cover this damage gap and catchers could take out any Exp Share potential threats.

4 Level Ball / 2 Ultra - Test this, and I dare you to tell me it doesn't work. Dragon Call will take care of beckoning the Garchomp string. Perhaps 3-2 or 3-3 if your skeptical. Yet I've had a very high success rate with it.

4 Jun - 3 Bi - 4 N - Works quite solidly with a low Ultra Ball count, and Random Receivers to your liking. Cheren testing came through very un-necessarily for me with Dragon Call covering consistency.

2 - 3 Emolga - Hard decision here, 3 almost excessive and 2 too little... honest to goodness your on personal preference here. Wish I was more help on this one, guess it's still has me undecisive yet! lol

Hopefully this helps some troubled Chomp players.

^That was almost worth a thanks. If I didn't know this I would give you a thanks. You basically described the best finishing touches for the deck. It still loses to Darkrai/Hydreigon, but still a very good deck choice.

Tier 1
Darkrai/Hydreigon
Garchomp/Altaria
Garbodor/Terrakion (You liek this Jeffery and Storm?)

Tier 2
Zekeels (could be 1 though)
Empoleon

Tier 3
Garbodor/Zebstrika
Everything else

I am sorry if I missed a deck.

I couldn't agree more kirbyking. I feel Fluffy'Chomp endures a Reshiphlosion vibe which is what makes it such a great deck for beginners. Or a good one for the girlfriends, just tell them it's called Fluffy'Chomp and it's a shoe-in! Haha, good luck Chomp players!

I don't know if i would put garchomp/altaria anywhere close to tier 1 maybe tier 1.5

Tier one should be
--------------
Eels and Their Variant
Darkrai Hydreigon

Tier 1.5
Darkrai variant aggro
mewtwo + terakion and whatever.
garchomp + altaria.
garbodor decks

Why do i not put garchomp in tier 1? Due to the coinflip mirror matchup (which will happen alot due to how hype this deck is everyone wanted to run it at pre-release) and having a bad matchup against eels you should know it's extremely difficult and is an uphill battle in eels vs garchomp. Your easiest eel matchup will be eel/ray ex/shinny ray. You need the scrapper if you want to beat garbador. Catcher themselves won't do it as garbador will essential shut you down. You can catcher him but chances are you will run into 2 on the bench. and once he is up chances are they will pick off your altaria and eventually leaving you with no damage.

I just don't know i've been testing the deck ever since i got back into the game and the only thing the deck has going for it right now is that it's consistent in setup. I feel that against the most popular matchup it loses 3 out of 5 Not including the mirror match since it such a coinflip. I will continue to play this deck until i figure a way to make it work in all matchup, but until than i think this will be a fun/practice deck for me. We are avoid playing it like the plague to get our CP points at battleroad since garchomp will be in fulldrive.

i would say drop bianca for cheren cause your not p[laying ultra ball to get you r hang low and completely drop poke comm for 1 or 2 max potion, and you should drop the 2 switch for another emolga and only drop switch if you dont have any accelgor in your area

I am new here, and new to the competitive scene of deck building, but this deck has really stood out to me, especially since I really like Garchomp, and Altaria. I was browsing the net and stumbled across this current build.

Pokemon - 20

4 Gible
3 Gabite
4 Garchomp
3 Swablu
3 Altaria
3 Emolga

Trainers - 30

4 Professor Juniper
4 N
3 Cheren

4 Pokemon Catcher
4 Level Ball
4 Rare Candy
3 Pokemon Communication
2 Switch
2 Super Rod

Energy - 10

6 Fighting
4 Blend WLFM

This one seemed decent to me. Although like I said I am new, and I could be wrong. I'm not 100% sure how to go about buying cards, not really excited to go buy a bunch of boosters for 1 deck, although maybe ebay will be something for me to look into.

I am going to start off by saying I love this deck. It reminds me a lot of Raybee's. If no one knows what this deck is it has been made popular I think World's 2010. Anyways I have been play testing this deck for a few weeks now and had a recent tournament at a local store with a BW-On format. I don't think Bianca is necessary in this deck because I have found that I usually have more then 6 cards in my hand especially when I am set up by turn three. After I am set up its draw attack pass so cards tend to build up in my hand. So with that said I prefer cheren, solid three card draw can't go wrong with that. Also I have been playing my deck with the Black Rayquazza and I do have to admit I love the card. In one match I played against a guy running a Aggro Terrakion/Mewtwo EX deck. With the stubborn Eviolite's I set it up and had two Altaria's and getting OKHO's with Rayqauzza's second attack to his Terrakion's catchering benched ones with the energy and he never took a prize. Because Rayquazza's attack gets through the Eviolite. 90 + 20 + 20 equals the magic number =130. And Garchomp can't do so unless you have three Altaria's set up and then you have to discard two cards. Just a personal choice though I suppose. Also its pretty fun getting those first turn donk's against those pesky Tynamo's.

Well I gave this deck a try at BRs, slightly difference list (went with 3 Emolga and such), but anyways:

-Ultra Ball I rarely used. I was actually surprised at how quick you could get those Gabite out, most games I was flooding mass Dragon Call T2-3. But still, I am hesitant to drop it completely, as you're completely shut out of Garchomp outside of drawing into it or Dragon Call, and there are some scenarios where this can happen (like VS Garbador). At the same time, I really want to try 2 Max Potion in over it, there were more cases I could have used it possibly. But still...not having that access to Garchomp just in case bugs me.

-I ended up trying out 3 Cheren over Bianca, think I'll try Bianca now instead. Honestly I think I could have been a bit more aggressive in drawing, I found myself playing more conservatively really not wanting to use my Junipers at all since it seemed like more often than not I was holding something I really didn't want to discard, like Catcher. So I think if I go more aggro on that route, Bianca could work well.

-Accelgor/Goth decks suck, that lock is just nasty and I think it's BS how they can keep hitting DCE after DCE just from drawing alone >.>. Eel variants with Mewtwo EX and whatever else were also annoying, usually I could still 2HKO their Pokemon regardless of Eviolite, but the fact you have to 2HKO stuff (in addition to me never drawing into Catcher to pick off those dang Eels) made them a bit of an annoying matchup as well when some of those EXs can reach OHKO damage.

-Swablu REALLY needs a dragon version, I hate how you can't grab one with Dragon Call.

Overall Garchomp/Altaria is definitely fun to play, it can swarm pretty easy, especially if you can get that Gabite out by T2 and have Emolga somewhere help out. The main problem though is that if you can't hit that Gabite soon enough, the deck slows down I think to a point where it's harder to recover, as other decks move just as fast and if you start losing Altaria since you can't threaten with Garchomp, it makes it that much harder.

I think Pokemon Communication is a much better substitute for Ultra Ball, if you were to play it. With a minimum 4-3-4 Garchomp, 3-3 Altaria and a couple Emolga it's really hard to imagine a scenario where you have no Pokémon in your hand.
