Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

GG vs Emp/zong

Yep. It can also OHKO Gallade as long as you have managed to get in one Aqua Shower (or use PlusPower). Even if Gardy can OHKO back, the trade-off is still in your favour.

I haven't found that Dusknoir hurts Empoleon much at all. If you can spread damage a bit, then it doesn't matter that Surf Together is only doing 80.

Your right on that one. Spread overcomes everything.

I have played against Plox with dusknoir and found that it makes a nice easy late game prize. That's besides the fact that usually the only pokemon on my bench are damaged Empoleons or a Prinplup waiting to evolve, or posibly a Bronzong, all of which are easy to get back.

I wouldn't think about playing Lake Boundry in this deck, seriously. You should be able to get the KO on 90 anyways, chances are they didn't just evolve or rare candy to gallade you should of gotten a Dual Splash or something in. Besides you could always warp point next turn and they can't bring you down with gardevoir lv X. You OHKO Gardevoir without Lake Boundry. Bring up Bronzong, they take ten, coating for 90, then they take another ten. KO.

I agree with Lake Boundary not being needed at all in this deck. Lake Boundary would do more harm than good, and with the constant spreading, you should be able to land OHKO's with a Bronzong and a scramble. I've only tested this game out twice, but I managed to win both games. I'll be testing with it more, but it is somewhat of an even match-up. Even if Empo gets a bad set up, with the scrambles, it can manage to come back. So it's really a toss-up, because Gardy has a lot of disruption to it to stop you from setting up.

I've played the torterra pick up matchup... lol I've only played two games, and won them both. As long as they don't get set up you win. Warp points and Dualsplash help more than anything.

oh and btw how does emp/zog do vs Torterra?

Start a new topic, as tthat isn't the subject of this one.

Wait do you mean Aqua Shower, or what?

Because Aqua Shower is the DP one.

This has been tested and pondered. I am very very certain that this is a PERFECT 50/50 matchup, and if not, like a 50.000001/49.999999 matchup, leaning on either side. It is super close.

EmpoZong's best defense is Lake Boundary, which can one-hit a Gardy, but then Gardy can equally one hit it, so there is really too much lean on either side.

Teching in one or two Cessation Crystal on Gardy's side would help out a lot, I think, as Bronzong's body wouldn't work, as long as the player was a good player and very good at when to place the Cess.

Lake Boundary isn't need. You forget, Bronzong already OHKO's Gardy. The body puts damage on it because of it's power in between turns. So that isn't that greatest idea. Instead of getting to attack twice you only get to once now. (Unless they can flip 3 prizes and KO you.

I built the two, play tested the two, and emp seems to me the harder one to set up IMO

With out going into it a lot. If you can take the first 3 prizes against it your in good shape. If you can't, your going to have problems.

Well, I went a combined 15-4 with GG vs Empoleon before Nats, 3 of the losses only coming to Ross who played 4 Cessation AND 2 Holon WP. BS! Gardy autowins Empoleon!

you haven't tested vs empoleon/bronzong have you? Bronzong owns GG.

Bronzong could eat Gardeviour and claydol for brekfast. Cause you could totally destroy them with Bronzong. First attack with Empoleon and then finish the job with bronzong. However gallade could give you some probs. Since he can easily OHKO bronzong. BUT you could use bronzong's 2nd attack and do some serious damage and you could also play buffer piece so gallade would have to flip 4 prizes to OHKO your zong(unless he plays PP or strenght charm)

I'd say that that matchup depends a bit on luck, but otherwise GG has a slight advantage, like 55-45.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Don't forget that late game after you flip all your prizes you can do almost NOTHING against Empoleon. The matchup is 60-40 in Empoleons favor.

Lost Wager+Plox or Gallade w/ Cess usually dooms EmpoZong.

In my testing, Plox is much better.

No, the game will usually never get that far with 30 minutes anyway.
Late game, Sonic Blade+Cessation is crucial for beating Empoleons. 2 for 80 is really good.
It's definitely in Plox's favor.
I'm sorry, but it's way too hard to beat constant Wager+Cess+Plox lock with a stage 2 deck that doesn't play Crystal Beach.

30 minute game - GG is a MONSTER favorite.

Untimed game - Empoleon is a small favorite. I'm sure that all these people saying that they aren't beating GG with it are either not running Windstorms and/or are playing the deck wrong. Also, Mikey's 15-4 is probably not even that good of an indication of the matchup because 4 Cessation and even MORE non Water Energy (in addition to Calls) in Empoleon itself has to lower its consistency to a disgusting level.

Actually even though I ran 3 cess and 4 call I never had consistency problems.

Um, that record was vs Empoleon/Bronzong. When I said Empoleon, since everyone else was talking about Empo/Zong, I figured it would be inferred :p

It's simple, really, Sonic Blade every single Empoleon that comes active and save your prize flips for Bronzong. Anyone that flips 4 prizes on the first Empoleon while the opponent has ANY kind of set up is just not playing the matchup right.

It's funny that if empoleon uses dual splash and next turn has full bench to start using surf together, Bronzong snipes and helps empoleon's surf together against Gallade. actually, Empozong beats GG bad, I just noticed that.

If you do that, Dusknoir destroys you and you lose the game. I still say that Empoleon is a small favorite in an untimed game, but unfortunately, we haven't seen what could happen if we had more than 30 minutes in swiss or enough time to actually go 2/3 in top cut (although that could happen at Worlds).
