it has come to my attention reccently that gino is quitting pokemon.... this is truly the saddest day in pokemon history.
not only do i look at gino as a friend and inspiration, but he truly is a role model and icon for the sport.

gino helped me realize its okay to be who you are, and you should never stop chasing your dreams....
in my eyes he is always the world champion.

at worlds this year, i watched as a champion get cheated out...
HE GOT A GAME LOSS FOR USING SLEEVES POKEMON GAVE HIM...... am i the only one outraged by this situation...

Pokemon TCG World Championship 2009 by Gino Lombardi

At worlds I received a game loss for having unintentional marked sleeves. The sleeves that I used during worlds were the ones that pokemon gave me in the worlds competitor package when you sign in to confirm that you are playing. This penalty cost me any hope of becoming a world champion and should have easily been avoided. I could sit here and blame the judges, the sleeves, the pokemon staff, or the ruling but I don’t want to leave pokemon with a negative attitude. This was my final year playing and I wanted to leave on a clean slate.

Gino Lombardi

even after being cheated and slandered , gino still managed to set a example for the sport

as i was walking through the tournament area, i couldnt help but hear people bash gino...
there all haters, and tha'ts all they will ever be
"gino changed his name", "gino cant win without marked sleeves", "gino is a try-hard gangster"

all these comments make me sick,

as gino leaves to move on to bigger better things, i wish him luck for the future and i will try to promote the good things gino has done.

gino lombardi, despite the comments and rumors about you cheating and changing your name, ill forver respect you brother....:frown:

TEAM UNDERGROUND FO LYFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this is a great post
to such a great player
well written my friend
Takes alot of guts to write a report like this after he is being falsely accused of cheating
I agree, gino should go down as one of the greatest to play the game
Props gino , and no matter what the haters say You keep shining

You have got to be kidding.

I'm sure this community has lost many great people (to death) and I think it seems a bit disrespectful to them to claim that somebody qutting is the saddest day in Pokemon history...

Anyways I never formally met Gino, but he is obviously a very good player and it's always sad to see good players quit.

So good luck Gino with your futures endeavours. This thread is pointless and will get locked soon.

He will come back...they all come back.

On a side note, no judge would accuse Gino of cheating with those sleeves. Look up the rules before you post rubbish. There is NO INTENT needed to receive a GL for bad sleeves. It is under the "marked cards" section. He is probably lucky it was only a GL and not a DQ since marked cards can have that result at a tier 2 event. (Ask the 3 MAs from US Nats that got DQs for coloring on the borders).

Any player that plays is ultimately responsible for their decks and sleeves (if they choose to use them). Any errors in manufacturing still falls to the person using them. I was not in the MAs area when this ruling happened, I had been sent over to help in the JRs most of the day, but if the sleeves were of different lengths, shades, etc and basically there was a difference from other cards in the deck, that creates a "marked deck" situation.

Hope this helps.

He is coming back, definitely. I did this before and it catched a lot of attention. He is probably doing the same. I received a R1 game loss also at Worlds '09. lol

i'm not trying to hurt anyone's feelings, but if he was a true "role model" and said "never stop chasing your dreams", then he wouldn't have quit, everyone feels like they get cheated out of a game at 1 point in time

Lawman is correct. And yeah, he'll come back. Really, I don't see how this guy is a great role model, or how it's the worst day in Pokemon history. It's sad that we're losing a player, sure.............. But I mean, come on. That's all. -__-

Gino's been thinking of quitting long before the sleeves incident. And it's not official yet, I talked to the man himself at the airport. Nothing is final for him yet. I don't get why all of you are freaking out over this, it's his decision, let him make it.

I would NEVER look up to Gino as a role model. There are FAR better players in the game than Gino to look up to. Sure he's got a pretty good rep with his winning, but when it comes to looking up to, Gino isn't the first to come to mind.

I mean his Nationals thread got locked because of his lack of vocabulary. If I were to have kids I wouldn't want them looking up to him either due to his "life style". I was at Worlds this year and over heard conversations with his friends and him. His "way of life" isn't something to idolize especially when half the things I was hearing were very racial and disrespectful...

I'm going to be real for just a second: How "gangster" can you be and still play pokemon?

*takes a second look at my user name and facepalms*

i look up to Jason K

Eh, Gino was good, and apparently nice and whatnot, but that doesn't make it the saddest day for the game lol. Saddest day off the top of my head would be when Wizards banned all the 15+ player :p

I remember gino being in the 11-14 division back when he was first getting into the game and I always knew he was going to be a good player. Then I had to unfortunately quit for the time being and he took over as the Face of New England and he did quit the job. Well I agree he will be missed, but calling him a role model made me laugh i won't lie. I doubt he's giving me the title back, because I doubt he's quitting.... it's all apart of the show.

lol gino was so bad in 11-14 how would you know that adam. i remember he ran zangoose in his blaziken deck in 04 and i walked all over him!
