Glisctomb Counter

If you haven't played against one of these decks at league or on redshark yet, then you don't get how annoying this deck can be. Basically, they set up two gliscors and level them up every turnand use shoot poison for paralysis and poison. Then they use burning poison to retreat into their spiritomb so that you cant warp point/switch out.

The point of this thread is to discuss any viable techs that can help better the match up and prevent yourself from getting locked for time. Its more viable then most people think it is, and if you're not prepared for this match up, you should be prepared to lose very very easily.

To defeat glisctomb the main strategies I believe are,

Destroy their BTS. They need it to evolve right away.

Play Warp Energy. Warp your active out and get rid of paralysis.

Dusknoir DP. Dark Palm their gliscor or tomb to get a couple of turns of reprieve.

Play power lock. Via Mesprits, Power Sprays. Very hard to do unless you're playing Palkia and or SP

Prevent spirtomb from retreating using some sort of lock.

Recover energy. Remove all stats condition

Cyclone energy. Switch out their active tomb. Pray they dont have 2

Play evolutions carefully so that you can get rid of status conditions.

Thats all I could think of on top of my head. Also, which of these techs could be used in stage 2 decks such as flygon so that it doesn't become a dead card in other match ups?

Warp Point/SSU/Full Heal/Poke Healer don't work in Gliscor/tomb. That the ENTIRE point of Tomb >_>

They really don't need BTS all that much, it helps, but they can cycle 2 Gliscors around enough to keep Para going.

You would NEVER DP Dusknoir a Spiritomb, barring some insanely intricate win situation. Their Spiritomb should always be active, and can always be Roseanne'd back. Also, locking Rare Candy makes Noir extremely difficult to get out, but would work well if they have 4 bench.

Power lock is solid. So is Recover energy. Warp Energy can also do the job. Cyclone is risky because they can afford the bench space of 2 Spirit.

You say the last one like they aren't hitting you for 80 damage + Poison/Para. Your stage 1s/basics probably won't survive that >_>

The two other options you missed are Regice, who is a more costly Cyclone energy but can be Roseanne'd for, and my personal favorite: Palkia Lv.X. Having Palkia Lv.X on the bench gives you a way to switch your active paralyzed Pokemon out every turn, and if you play it with Flygon, you can get some sweet free retreat, while breaking the trainer lock all at the same time, AND ability to hit their Claydols.

None of these gimmick 'return to hand' decks enjoy having Lookers or Wager played on them.

Xatu SW is an awesome tech for Glisctomb come to think of it. You can just paralyze their Spiritomb, they can't retreat, then you can just use some set-up/bench hitting attack to prepare for a sweep.

Lol forgot about him might serve well enough as a Mewtwo Counter as well in some SP decks.

Infernape 4 lvX
Palkia lvX

Force that Spiritomb to the bench! Or even put Gliscor active, KOing it.

Also, Gardevoir lvX: Teleport every turn and retreat back to your attacker for free with Moonlight.

lol Glisctomb. That's funny.

You are kidding, right?

In the case that you aren't. just about anything counters it. It's so slow. Just play any deck. Heck, Bibarel could beat it.

What deck has a problem to it?

Gyarados has warp/cyclone/regice?
Uxie/Shuppet have the same
Flygon has free retreat, a clutch level up, usually a warp point, and disallows the BTS lest they want to give up its use AND a free agility
SP dominates it quite severely with Unown G and Power Spray or Mesprit. Luxray X is a huge bane as well, as is Infernape and even sniping palkia. Dialga shuts off the bodies, so they can't send up any kind of real lock against you.

Most decks seem to do well against it quite inherently.

If you haven't checked whats won cities thus far...Gliscor is making a showing. Including a 1st place against SP, Gyara, and Gengar.

I'm not considering it the greatest threat, but it is troublesome.

Gyarados has warp/cyclone/regice? Fair enough.

Uxie/Shuppet have the same

Flygon has free retreat, a clutch level up, usually a warp point, and disallows the BTS lest they want to give up its use AND a free agility. No Warp Point, but Gliscor would have to play around Flygon LV. X because of Sand Erosion.

Dialga shuts off the bodies, so they can't send up any kind of real lock against you. Unown G only prevents the burn, and you can't LV. Up something you can't get active. Remember, you can't Warp Point/Poketurn anything while Keystone Seal is active.

Most decks seem to do well against it quite inherently.

Not saying it's BDIF, but, you've got to realize, you're both Paralyzed and Poisoned at the same time, so you can't retreat, and since Spiritomb is Active, you can't Warp Point out. There are outs, but not as easy to work in as you'd think.

it is as easy

its not like we've never heard of the deck. the deck isnt that good. SP and gyarados should dominate it pretty well.

yeah, mach assumes that the SP player can't spray gliscor's power, wont use DGX to shut off the bodies, and wont have chomp/palkia snipe, and luxray's gust to bring up gliscors before they level up.

and gyarados is just as bad if not worse

Exactly, Flygon does give the deck a hard time, but a GOOD glistomb deck will run either palkia x or luxray gl x to pick out a pokemon that cannot be easily removed from the active.
