Gyarados would be better than Golduck methinks! You get to rage basically whilst building a Gyarados on the Bench to do 80 and hand control! If you get tails a confuse yourself, next turn swap the confusion then commence to attacking again! Nice idea but he low HP and small actual damage I think hurts it if you dont get the fast hit... LG!

revdjweb, Xatu's power moves conditions off your active to the defending Pokemon. That's how he's using Golduck too ... Golduck's attack confuses him & on the next turn Xatu moves the confusion off.

Old School ... why no Windstorm or Warp Point in you list. Sure you can function without Xatu's power but shouln't you have some ways of getting rid of Cess?

Mr Meches, Gyarados is a tank ... but he is really power dependant. If you can't use his power then it takes quite a bit of effort to get him powered up. Even his big attack lacks some of the synergy that the Duck has since you can't count on confusion. The Karp start is also horrible. All told I see Golduck as the better partner. He can attack for 1 or 2 without having to worry about Cess preventing him from attacking at all. He never needs 4 energy. And the duck let's you confuse your opponent on just about every attack. I agree that Xatu is potentially a good tech in a Gyarados deck, but I don't think that he has the synergy that Xatu/Golduck have.

i dont understand how this deck works. golduck attacks, confuses himself, opponent knocks out golduck, so you no longer have a confused golduck active so xatu has no use.

I tried a version of this deck out last night. Admittedly my trainer line was pretty different, but my diagnosis ... this combo is too slow for the current format. I tested against Blissey/Arcanine, Mario, Infernape, and Empleon. The only win Golduck/Xatu got was against Mario and a lot of that had to do with Xatu hitting weakness and being resistat. It was really hard to get Psyduck built & powered AND get a Xatu on the bench to get things rolling. The few times I got it going things were fun ... but it was just too hard to get setup and keep it setup against good decks.

Natu is an interesting starter. Can be hugely disruptive.

Xatu is a good card and makes for a very good secondary attacker.

Psyduck is flippy but OK.

Golduck isn't as good as I had hoped. Both attacks are interesting but I'm just not feeling the love.

that's what i'd do. dropped the 2 ssu's because they're unreliable, the pokedex because it's pretty bad, and the skarmory because you can't ever reliably get it off the field and the 30 damage they get from retreating isn't enough to cover the 2 prizes you lose when someone ko's your 100 hp ex.

It actually works really well against some good decks. However, IMHO, it also performs poorly against many others. It was a bit slower than I liked since you really needed two different pokemon built for the combo to work but it was really slick if you could keep it going. I actually felt a little bad when I took my test deck apart to build other things since it was almost always fun to play.

I never got around to testing this variation, but I kept thinking that the deck needed a heavy Hitter it for the times when the combo wasn't working or you faced something that could hit for 90+ regularly. I considered adding a 1-1 or 2-2 Blissey for instance but never got around to it.

it's definately a cool combo and a fun deck, but i don't see it doing too well because of the low hp and max damage being so abyssmal.

I know that this deck is probably gonna be played in a couple of cities in the Junior divsion. idk about any other divisions though

Build it yesterday, it works good, T2 Golduck most of the times, along with a benched Xatu.

Xatu's attack is also surprisingly good.
