Yes TTGL is that epic :D

A few hints would be nice, do you want to try some new stuff or mroe love comedy/harem/shonen :p ?
 
I'd recommend Black Butler it's pretty awesome. Rich boy makes deal with the devil and inherits one h e double hockey sticks of a butler (the catch phrase of the character) they investigate crimes and such in London.

The Count of Monte Cristo I'm not finished with it, but so far I've enjoyed.

Cowboy Bebop- My all time favorite anime
 
TTGL might not be your cup of tea, depending on your feelings around episodes 7-10. That said, Eureka 7 and Darker than black are really good anime to watch. Eureka 7, simply put, is a masterpiece. Darker than black has a really interesting plot, though season 2 wasnt that great. Check out season 1 though.
 
Just about everything I've put in this list as 8,9, or 10 is what I'd reccomend anyone here to watch. However there are some series in there that are for mature audiences (Monster, Detroit Metal City, Gankutsuou), so proceed with caution. Also some entries in my list are rated out of enjoyment, rather than my own judging criteria (Jango's Dance Carnival).

Started watching FMA, and wow, Im surprised. I expected another shonen without anything really serious in it but its pretty dark and ickish at times. I really like it but I really didnt expect this.

Anyone care to enlighten me about the difference between fma and brotherhood?
 
While what Lucario Aura Wielder said is true, its a mis-representation of what the shows are.

Fullmetal Alchemist is the original anime adaptation of the FMA manga. At a certain point, the two versions deviate from one another, so that the anime could have a resolved ending without relying on the manga, which was no where near completion at that point.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, is the second anime adaptation of the FMA manga, staying almost perfectly true to the manga.

To say that one is non-canon and one is canon does not really justify the work the original series did. It was a very good show in its own right, and to dismiss it as "non-canon" would not be a correct action.
 
Akira is the best animated "anime" of all time. While many people have problems with the plot being incoherent (they kind of adopted a 900 page manga into a single 2 hour movie!), since you seem to like frenetic action plots at least a little, I do not think it should be a big problem for you. TETSUOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

"Good" or "bad" gets to be a touchy subject, but I will certainly say for instance Black Cat and Chrono Crusade are great examples of anime worse than their manga. I always want to be involved with an anime that is as good as or better than the manga, or why would I not just be reading the manga? On that subject, Cowboy Bebop and Trigun as others mentioned are about the ultimate better than their manga series. Trigun's manga is cute, hilarious, more fun in some ways than the show, but the show is just amazing. Cowboy Bebop has amazing animation, voice acting, art, action, and the manga is completely derivative and worse.

oh yeah.... i also watched school days. DONT WATCH IT!!!!!!
 
Im done with fma 33 now, the show is awesome. But definitly not what I expected. Pretty dark and pretty icky actually. Story is incredible and its pretty intense to watch. Love it <3
 
fmab is incredible. If you think it's dark now, just wait until later when you finally meet all of the sins.
 
im watching the regular one first^^ And nothing beats this chimera doctor guy whose name i cant remember, that guy is icky
 
So I just marathoned Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann over the weekend. I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes Mecha Animes. I'd point to watch the Japanese version as the English one... some characters just don't sound as passionate as they should be (watch 2 minutes of both and you'll see EXACTLY what I mean). Just be warned, don't expect to think too much about the anime. This one redefines Deus ex Machina for me. There are no physics in this world, and it really goes by the main song from the series (Row Row Fight the Power). They really do the impossible and see the invisible. There's a whole lot of illogical nonsense and most of the big "come back" moments are contrived and odd, but the entire anime is worth watching if you love mecha animes.
