H1N1 virus[Swine Flu], your opinions?

All jokes aside, lemme give you guys some numbers and see what you all think:
The regular flu infects around 100,000 people a year (approximation)
The regular flu kills around 1,000 people a year (directly or indirectly)
There have been about 200 known cases of the swine flu
Less than 20 people have died from the swine flu

That is way way way way off. According to this 36,000 people die each year from regular flu.
 
We are used to the flu. The flu comes and goes, so there is no panic. There are also flu boosters and flu vaccines so the flu does not scare people or make them panic.

Swine flu is a rather more rare disease, and there is no current booster or vaccine for it ( or this strain at least) ATM, so people panic more.

You have to remember that most of the human race is stupid when is comes to logic and common sense in a situation (I really mean this) they over-react and over hype, and in general make mistakes all the time.

One of the schools in my counties closed on Friday because of the virus (someone who went there had it).
 
Here in Texas, there have been many "unconfirmed" cases of Swine Flu. School districts are closing even when they are UNCONFIRMED. They haven't closed DISD yet, which really sucks. Gosh! I'd give anything to get off from school for a week...

I find it odd that no one has said anything about the racial overtones of this post...

So when someone barely mentions "illegal immigrants," they are labeled racist, but when the entire Chinese people group is called 'communist,' not a peep is heard.


In all seriousness, I hope that Mexican Nats is not canceled, that would be such a downer for all of the players there.

Indeed, I think the media is/has been blowing this way out of proportion.
 
Well excuse me for being mad having my relatives chased out of their own country because the reds decided they'd take the country by force. How does me commentating on the totalitarian and completely racist method of dealing with swine flu make me a racist?

The media is still hyping swine flu, just today I saw an article on yahoo about "Possible resurgence?" Please... let it go...
 
The first US citizen has died from swine flu. She was 33 and pregnant. Her pregnancy probably worsened her case and immune system. The baby was delivered a little prematurely, but is healthy.
 
I volunteer to eat every pig in the world to stop this madness! I will also eat any infected humans (volunteers only of course).
