So I'm determined before the tournament to play my own version of LBS. We arive with about 35 minutes left to register. I ask a bunch of people for cards, and am able to get most of them. By the time registration closes, all I'm missing for my deck is a Lugia and a Latias*. I try to find a 5th stadium with 30 seconds left, but can't get one, so I toss an extra Admin and Pokeretriever into my deck and get it registered just in time to not recieve a first round loss!

Here we go!

ROUND 1
vs. a guy with random

I get Blastoise out T2 or so and end up benching him out by T4 or so.

WIN 1-0

ROUND 2
vs Matt chin with Pow Block

I refuse to take a prize, forcing him to use Electrode to do anything to me. I Lugia a couple Tyranitars, and he's left with nothing. Time runs out and I'm ahead.

WIN 2-0

ROUND 3
vs Levi with LBS

He gets the worst prizes EVER. I get 2 Blastoise and 2 Pidgeot out to make sure he doesn't stand a chance, then I sweep his basics with Blastoise. It helped in this game that I played 2 Island Caves. At the end of the game he flips his prizes over to reveal 2 Pidgeys, 2 Blastoises, 1 Onix AND a Holons Castform. As I said, the worst prizes EVER.

WIN 3-0

ROUND 4
vs Lucas with Draggytrode

I get a terrible start. I am able to Lugia something for 2 prizes, but it doesn't matter. He just runs through everything I have.

LOSS 3-1

ROUND 5
vs a guy with random Raichu stuff

I get a good setup and Blastoise sweeps everything again. He KOs it with a Raichu-ex eventually, but I just lay a Lugia and Pwn it FTW.

WIN 4-1

Okay, so now I'm in a must-win situation. If I win, I'm in the cut, but if I lose, I'll probably miss on resistance.

ROUND 6
vs. a guy with Draggytrode

I look at my hand, and immediatelly know that someone up there likes me. It was, Pidgey, Candy, Pidgeot, Squirtle, Petm, Water, Admin. Even better is the fact that I get to go second. so I get T1 Pidgeot and Blastoise, but don't have enough energy to attack. Next turn, I Admin and get all the energy I need. I OHKO 2 Dragonairs and 1 Electrode FTW!

WIN 5-1

Woot, so I'm ranked #2 after Swiss. I make the cut (my resistance was much higher than after the previous round), and I have to face the one matchup I really didn't want to face, Flariados.

TOP 8
vs. Chris Clanton with Flariados

Game #1
I try to convince him to concede because this is my last shot at Worlds. He says no. :nonono: Anyway, I get a slow start, and manage to prize 2 stadiums. I get multiple Pidgeots and Blastoises out so Spider trap effectivelly does nothing. At some point during the game, he uses a Scott and takes a Full Flame, and a Marys, if he takes his BF (which I know he plays) I wouldn't be able to counter it after the Full Flame, and he'd probably win easily after that. He doesn't take the BF, which makes me think it's prized. about 4 turns later, he plays a TVR and topdecks the BF. Whoopee. He gets me BF locked and I have no counter stadiums left in my deck. I suffer an energy shortage immediatelly after and concede in 3 turns.

Game #2
My hand is: Squirtle, Candy, Petm, Water, Water, Pidgeotto, Admin, so I can I can T1 him if I draw a Holons Castform (he has a lone Eevee in play). I choose to go second. I don't draw it. Damn it. So I Admin the next turn and draw into Celios-Candy-Pidgeot, but no more energy. Grrrrrr. He sets up really slow, and draws 0 BFs, so I get control of this game very quickly, but time is called when I'm 2 attacks from the win. Incomplete games don't count.

Yeah. 5th place. I pick up my prizes, open my packs on the spot, and find they're filled with crap. Oh well.

Props:
5th Place
The Computer, for not hating me today
Spagheti Factory for dinner
All the guys who let me borrow stuff

Slops:
Medicham
Losing to Lucas >.<
5th Place
Me not going to Nats
Jim Lambkee winning with a deck he'd never played before (What's with that?)

2.1.4. Late Player Registration
If a player arrives to the tournament late, that player will receive losses for all of the rounds that have already started. It is at the Tournament Organizer’s discretion to wait to add the player until the round starts if the pairings are already up. The Tournament Organizer must inform the player of how many losses he or she will receive and that, by arriving late, that player will be ranked below players with the same match record who arrived on time.

If the rounds haven't started, no game loss.... It says to give game losses to games that have been missed. Registration never closes, players can be added in at any time.
OOPS!

HJ said so. And his word was law.

He was trying to prevent another situationn like the one that happened at the Nevada Gym the previous week.

What deserves more attention is the cut to Top8. There were 61 people in 15+, but only a cut to the top8. This means that 13.11% of players made the cut. If I remember correctly, cuts should be 25%. A top16 would have lead to 26.23% making the cut, and that's pretty much as close to 1/4 you can get.

Don't make a thread about that, you'll only be complaining and eating sour grapes.

Oh yeah. I'm SO sour because I easily made the cut, and any larger would have made it even harder on me.

It not like we get to play against easy players like you

It would be nice to get to play in Florida where there are a buch of easy players to go up against.
Here in the Pacific NW we have the best players in the world. If Flaming Spinich played in any other region of the country he would already have an invite to worlds I guarantee that. In our 15+ age
group now we have last years 11-14 world champion and last years 15 and up 2nd place finsisher
(and the 2nd place finisher is the inventor of the Storm Deck or as you know it "LBS". So in the Pacific NW better isnt good enough you have to be the best in the world.

lol okay buddy. ;) I'd like to see you hold true to that with him living in OH where you have chicago players, michigan players and the OH players all playing together... it's pretty freakin' hard here.

QFT. Ohio region would be hell to live in.

And it's called sarcasm, buddy. Learn it.

Eric Craig invented LBS, he's from Florida.
John and Steve Silvestro pioneered Flariados, they are from Florida.

Come down here and try to win a trip if it's so easy, only 200 dollars if you plan ahead, come on down!

ZomG!! U R SO right!! I mus7 t0tallee suckzorz!! That's why I didn't win a trip yet!!

In fact, here's a list of other players that were there that all must totally suck because they HAVEN'T won a trip to Worlds yet:

Levi C.
Thor H.
Trevor H.
Tyler N.
Sean Gettys
Chris Clanton
Chris Catton
Myself
Robert R.

There. That's just 9 people who were at Seattle Gym who are (imo) good enough to go to Worlds. And who wins? Jim Lambkee. A parent who's never won or placed highly in any event before. I'd sure like someone to explain how that's fair.

First, explain how it isn't fair.

Jim has been playing Pokemon for about 6 or 7 years (since Here Comes Team Rocket.) He played at Worlds in '04. This was not his first "big" win.
