So you'd rather have no content at all?

id rather have content i could trust

id also rather have content that is relevent (iPLOX? Glaceon?)

if no one can produce such an article, then ill buil my own deck and come up with my own matchups. even if iPLOX was well written as an article, it was a competely irrelevent article to the format at the time and now. the idea of deck article used to be to look at archetypes not how a good english literature grade at school can push your random deck through the wire

Hmm. Seems like you guys have a good idea of what the articles should be on this forum. Why not apply for the job of the person that chooses which articles are posted?

Because then I wouldn't have enough time for tea at 4 pm.

cause i been banned so many times i dont think you would let me

lolganium, you have 23 past infraction/warnings. Why do you think you get these infractions? Is there a problem that makes it unable to follow the rules?

The reason I ask is because I feel the Pokegym staff is always welcoming new people who want to better the Pokegym, but they are going to look into your history and will use it as a reference of how much to trust you in the future. If you really would like to help the Pokegym, the first thing you need to do is stop getting these infractions. I understand how easy it can be to break a rule and get infracted, but the infractions aren't random; they are given for a reason. Take a look at the Rules and find out what the Pokegym staff will be looking for to infract and try not to do that stuff.

If you can show that you really want to help the forum, and can become a better member of the forum by not getting anymore infractions, there is a higher chance the staff would hear you out.

SPARTA, so your not willing to write any "quality" articles, and aren't willing to weed out the "poor" articles from the front page. Pretty much you want quality work to be posted yet don't want to lift a finger to help that happen, and rather just talk poorly of the articles and of the people that spend their time to weed through the multiple articles and put the best articles (in their opinion) on the front page.

I'm guessing that you missed the part where I have just as many, if not more, infractions as lolganium?
To be fair, I actually have 2 articles ready to be posted, 1 as soon as this weekend arrives, the other after states, so its not a case of myself simply talking and doing nothing.

Previously though, I was reminded of the "Why Mario is terrible" article, where the good players talked sense, and the terrible players and MODS went and bashed the article. The entire thing ended up getting locked, despite the fact that it was well written, made perfect sense. and was designed to help out the gym. For me personally, this signaled the beginning of the end of skilled players helping out on the gym, since articles about Mario and Kricketune actually made it into the archetype section.

So a person doesn't deserve respect if they are skilled and don't volunteer to donate time and experience and help to other people?

What a weird conclusion to jump to.

My apologies then, if you are writing articles for the Pokegym.

On the subject of "Why Mario is terrible", that was definitely a controversy, but what did the writers expect to see? The Mario thread was the most discussed thread on the Pokegym during that time, and they came out with an article that pretty much bashed the entire idea of Mario. A good amount of people played Mario at larger events and did well with it, how do you think those people felt? It was bad that everyone was telling them that they were only winning because of luck (don't mind their actual skill), and then an article is written publically bashing the deck they played. It was a controversal article and it led to a lot of controversy. That was no surprise of many people, who guessed it would be closed within a week and wasn't that far off.

The end of skilled players helping out the gym wasn't then, it has been happening for years. I have been posting for years about how skilled players were doing nothing to help better the community online. For the years I was on here before I became a mod, that was my thing.

I should go grab some of my posts from 3-4 years ago. I'm sure they'd be quite funny (but true) now.

I don't see it as a weird conclusion. Of course this is all my opinion. If you have advanced knowledge of some subject, you have an obligation to spread that wealth of knowledge to better the whole. It doesn't have to be a large project, or doing something everyday, but if you are helping better the whole a little here and there, then the whole will get better because of your contributions. The second everyone with knowledge decides to abstain from spreading their knowledge, the system dries up and dies. If you have advanced knowledge and experiencein a topic and are not doing anything to better the people that could be bettered by that knowledge and experience, you don't deserve to have that knowledge in the first place and you definitely don't deserve kudos and respect from anyone else.

I'm currently looking through all my posts I've made since 2003 (when I registered) and came upon this gem.

I won't speak for anyone else, but I'm actually interested in contributing to help make the general community better. And being more famous is definitely not one of my reasons.

For one, playing "randies" is just plain no fun. Whether they're new players or players with ineffective lists, I don't like easy wins. Likewise, winning a tournament with close, well-matched games is much more rewarding that winning a tournament with "cookie" matchups. Thus, I put myself "at risk" by bettering the competition, but I would RATHER have tougher competition. That way, no one can say that my win was easy, and it also forces me to be better at the game to keep up with rising, new players.

Personal benefit comes as a result of contribution. For example, when you help improve one player, they win more ganes, get a higher ranking, and earn you more points if you beat them, and don't take as many points if they beat you. You earn much more respect by contributing than you do by talking about contributing. And when someone you helped wins, your reward is knowing you might have had a hand in their success.

Personal benefit is nothing more than a bonus for me, to be honest. I'm confident enough in my skill that I can make a consistent deck and win a majority of my games, and I'm not looking for admiration; if I was, Pokemon would not be the place where such respect is most important.

Ah, the world was so fresh 2 years ago.

That's kind of funny. That quote is taking straight out of the thread where the so-called 'skilled' declared they would never help the community ever again. The incident SPARTA was mentioning.

I find it so funny to go back and see how people acted in the past. The thread above is just so funny. Pretty much the so-called "skilled" put their foot down and said no more, after their legendary (yet controversal) Mario is Bad thread turned into a big fight (who would'a thunk?) and had to be locked. The rest of the community then gathers together with a resounding "SO WHAT?!" and the so-called skilled players were never seen again. Of course they came back, and are still posting on the community they sworn to never associate with again.

omg ive had a relelation ... from now on im gonna keep in line and comb over my hair, pull my socks up and do as im told. pfft, telling someone not to do something is an invite to do it.

i'll make a deal with you: i'll behave a little better if you un-filter the word 'h ell' oh and 'j ap'
i mean ... why? y'know ... so stupid.

so i spend so long being a good little boy and then i get to do work? wheres the logic? see maybe a bit of motivation to be a better 'gymer. but tbh everything that ive really wante to say that i was worried about cause i thought id get banned has alreay been said by SPARTA: iPLOX = failcakes . no one good does anything good on here ... we got n00bies teaching vets :)P) and mods getting extreamly picky (i told a mod off on a thread for being out of order with me, and i got infracted xp)

lolganium, those words are filtered because Pokemon is primarily a kiddie game. We can't have you cussing each other out and use racist words with little kids watching and reading these forums.

what? how is h ell racist or anything? j ap ... i mean god its like such a common term, you go on someones trade forum and see an ocean of *** cause of petty filtering. how about i start taking offence to being called a brit?

bring me someone who is japanese and truely insulted by that term and fair play ... if not ... :nonono:

the first is ... omg rediculous

The first one is omg ridiculous because it's a cuss word and all...gosh!

Looks like it's time to lock this thread. Good thread, really didn't need that much of a discussion to back it up, though.

One last parting shot however. We as mods are here to serve the needs of the people here on the gym. If you have issues on how the job is accomplished, you have some choices. First of all, I'd like to encourage you to get in touch personally with the mod you have a problem with. If you can be respectful and helpful without being critical, most times you will get a good response. However if the problem persists, bring your problem to Team Compendium's Hideout. They set the mood and timbre of the gym by their rules and guidelines, and have the power to make changes. Not only that, but their attitude is such that they want to best serve the interests of everyone here. If you can't make any headway at that point, I'm afraid you'll have to live with things.

If you however are disappointed in what isn't here .... what can you do to contribute to a better atmosphere? Let's face it, you can only get out what you put in. However good works usually make more than one person happy, and it makes more people want to be the best they can be. Try it ... Like it says in a VERY famous book, "It's better to give than receive." Where we go from here .... heck where you go from here is up to you. What sort of person do you want to be? If you want to be treated kindly, be sure to do the same to others. If you want to be highly respected, hold others in esteem. Otherwise, you may find it fun for a short while, but you'll never gain any TRUE friends. Good luck everyone, and good posting.
