It also doesn't give Judges a ton of time to prepare, or casual players a ton of time to realize their decks aren't legal. I think a pre-regionals rotation would be a terrible idea.

That being said, I don't think having the BW Theme Deck cards be illegal for regionals is a good idea either. I foresee more of a headache from "But I bought these yesterday, how come I can't use them?"...

Im highly competetiv and a pre regs rotation would actually make me interested in states. Id rather play in an unknown game then in an age old boring opening hand focused one. Heck if wed get message about a rotation 1 day before regs id be all up for it, at least it gives you something to do, something to work on :)

Personally, and as a League Leader, I'd love the BW cards to made legal for Regionals, just don't change the rules just yet.

I don't see how any player would want a new format 10 days before Regs. That gives almost no time to test.
lol
Our Nationals was 10 days after the release of a new deck 2008 and 2010, and yes, I'm a competitive player, and no, I never had a problem with it, even when it were sets like MD or UL where you didn't know what's really in the set until Prerelease. Actually, I knew what to play weeks before 2008 and 2010 where the new set was included, but in 2009, where we played in the old metagame without RR, I took my decision one night before because it was a lot more difficult.

For B/W, we all know what's in the set. Yes we don't know the Theme Decks, but I'd prefer to have a new format any time because this rewards skilled players who think about the game mechanics itself and don't just netdeck the BDIF.

BW looks boring. I hope I am wrong... got any Magic cards to trade?

Have you seen the cards in BW? I'll name a few that are going to change the game next season, Serperior, Emboar, Reshiram, Gothitelle, Pokemon Catcher, Professor Juniper, Max Restore, and a lot more will be awesome when we get our next rotation. You sir should look up something before you say it's boring and then ask for Magic cards :nonono:

Yeah, I don't want 10 days to test for regionals. HypnosProject, are you a competitive player?

Yes, I am both a Judge and a Player. I am usually a judge at the Midwest Regionals, but I am probably playing this year. I would love for there to be 10 days before Regionals to test. That's a true test of the top players' skill. I mean, players only get 6 days between the 2 weekends of States, and those are normally two entirely different metagames. So what's the difference.

I would really like a new set coming out, the only knock i can think is that if only the theme decks come out only, it rewards rich players who can get the good things from the packs.

What two states are you going to, New Jersey and California? Unless you are really travlling some large disance between states, I find it hard to belive you will find all that many differences between week 1 of states and week 2. The meta-games between neighooring states rearely are all thatr different, even less so know with our overall Metagame situation that we have today. Where the vast majority of the deks played really only fall into 3 or 4 different deck ideas.

Well even the BW starters don't come out till april 6th right we have FL states march 18th and regionals for FL is April 16th wouldn't it be safe to say BW would not be legal for either of those events?

Now the big question is whether or not the rule changes will happen before regionals because the new rule book will be out in the theme decks.

And also if there is going to be a mid-season rotation to stop regionals from being joke.(this is saying that the rule change happens)

It has always been the rule that cards from a set are not legal until the SET is released in the USA. Ergo, IMO, B/W will not be legal for States. Reg's will be wide open though w. the B/W set.

The bigger Q will be if we get the new rules implemented right away for Reg's.

But if the theme decks have boosters in them sold in stores..?

Looks like I picked a good time to get into the game with a new set and rules coming up (or perhaps a bad time? Hoo boy it's going to be a doozie learning all of this stuff). Do want me some Daikenki and hopefully the starter decks will have some decent commons that I can make use of.
