Hey, I'm 14 years old and I play a Trading Card Game called Pokemon.I was browsing a Message Board I am currently active one located at pokegym.net. I saw this thing about some players going to the Shelters and teaching the kids(or anyone who is willing) to play. They taught them to play an then gave them Theme Decks(Pre-Made Decks). The Article were you can read it is: http://pokegym.net/forums/showthread.php?t=24412 .

There are also pictures of this from both Shelters they went to located at: http://mspokemon.com/photos.asp

I saw the pictures and Read about it and was deeply touched that people were letting these kids have a hobby to get there minds off of there great loss.I thought this was definatly news.

I summited that to the Daily Oklahoman...I hope its published...

The Schell`s and Langenstein`s are always a class act and always have my respect and admiration. If you guys run short of Poke supplies, lmk what you need and I`ll give what I can.

Might want to c/p that into as many papers as you can find. NYT, USAToday, and ChiTrib are probably good starting places, but I don't know what the big papers are in other cities accross the nation.

[idea] Everybody, post a link to your local papers so that we can spread this email around. Ruler of Ice, since its your email, you should be the one to keep track of where it's been sent, unless you feel that somebody else can take that responsibility.

Newspaper links, let's go!!![/IDEA]

I'll start:

Chicago Tribune: http://www.chicagotribune.com/
Chicago Sun Times: http://www.suntimes.com/index/
Daily Herald (Chicago): http://www.dailyherald.com/
New York Times: http://www.nytimes.com/

Any other areas?

I would love to do that...I'd gladly SEND all of them. With some help of coruse:p

BTW...I called all 3 of my News Channels AND Submitted that email....

How would I keep track?

kool. IMO, lets start with the papers, then move to the news channels, as there's more space in a paper to put the story up. Once it gets bigger, then the TV stations might pick up on it.

Just keep track of what's posted here when, I don't think that's too difficult, esp if you post when you've sent the emails out...

Guys, I've notified the company that does PR for POP.
Let's see what they can do with it.

Wow, we are really overwhelmed with the positive feedback. First we want to say, the real credit goes to the families and kids in this league that are willing to go, and Rick for helping out with product making it possible, not to our family. We just made some phone calls and visits, without them, we could not do it. One thing that has really made me proud of these players is that not one of them has asked for anything for helping, they have all gone willing to give. I hate that it took an event like Katrina to wake us up that there are ways we all can help. This is such a minor way to give to others compared to those in the worst areas helping to rescue, feed, house, and care for those affected. Our prayer is that it is teaching the kids involved with our league to give their time and talents, and those we visit that people do care, take their minds off of the situation, and their lives will return to normal.

We all cross someone’s path everyday that needs help, we just need to slow down and open our eyes and our hearts. I know I’m guilty of being too caught up in life to see all of the opportunities to help and test our hearts that God places around us each day. We just need to realize that we all have something to give, and our time is the most precious since it is our only resource that can’t be reclaimed.

Currently our plan is to visit the shelters that will let us in as long as they are here, even after we get back in our league room.

I've sent an e-mail to a local newspaper about this.
BTW, I'm just wondering why don't ya give them a World Champion deck (whether it's 04 or 05) to let them have more fun?!
It seems to be better for some higher level players...

Just an update on our shelter league, today, we were invited to the Vicksburg Convention Center Shelter. If I ever have to go to a shelter, this is where I want to go! No place can replace home, but these people made everyone feel so welcome! The complex was great, all of the people were great! We played Pokemon from 2 till 5, then during dinner we let all of the kids register for a drawing for the T-Shirts and MP3 player that were donated for us to give away. We also added some other goodies and cards that others donated so everyone that entered got something. We took a few photos, and they can be seen at http://www.mspokemon.com. Good news is shelters with kids are getting harder to locate, we may try to go to the coast next Sunday if we can locate a place to visit. Thank you to those that helped out, we have a good bit of stuff to give away yet. Brent, we have a player from your area who is really excited about the game, we gave each player league information for when they get home.
