Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Let's speculate about the rotation

I was discussing with some teammates about the possibility of a SW-on format, and we decided that it probably wouldn't be worth it just because nothing would change. We'd still have Claydol, Uxie, Azelf, etc. Of course, a few things would change, but overall almost nothing in the format would change dramatically. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing, but I think there's a certain sect of people that are looking for some change after dealing with Claydol, Uxie, etc. for so long.

I think it could be one of these:

SF-on Well if japan is doing PT on,and we're one set behind them, wouldn't the rotation be this?

PT-On to have the same as the japanese so worlds makes sense when it comes.

MD-on It was the last set before the last rotation.

Im hoping it's MD-On because i dont want to lose garchomp lv X. ;_;

The 2 strongest possibilities to me are Platinum+ or Majestic Dawn+, which in my deck only affects whether or not Uxie gets rotated. That's an important couple of cards though! I don't think Platinum will get rotated, I believe that's alot of wishful thinking to neuter SP decks and change things up. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, but I don't see it happening this year.

I think once the trainer lock Vileplume comes out SPs will be neutered (no energy gains, no poketurns), so no need to rotate PL.

I doubt they based the choice on what to rotate solely on how badly SP's would be "neutered" so I don't think the likelihood of Vileplume's release will impact whether or not Platinum will stay.

IMO, you can't rotate GE and leave SF legal. It would be a very poor decision.

Also, I don't really understand how people are saying that RR-On would "balance" SPs. It would destroy SPs almost entirely, and make most of them unplayable. It definitely wouldn't make them equal with everything else (not that I think SP archetypes are necessarily crazy broken like some seem to).

SP is fine as there are other decks to counter it. My problem is that with the current incantation of the format with SP engine + sprays and BTS the format moves too quickly and leaves less than ten decks you can even think about playing.
At the moment rogue is dead, everyone knows all the cards that can be played that can keep up with decks like SP and luxpluff.

So in reality its just that the format creates too many limitations at the moment. (Then again two years ago when it was GG vs Magmortar -> GG vs Empoleon wasn't much better)

Edit: Also for the person a couple of posts up on the topic of PL on to make it the same as Japanese format.
You also have to remember that US PL does not equal Japanese PL as PUSA likes to cooridnate the release of legendary pokemon cards with the release of movies.

I didn't say they're going to rotate SOLELY on one card. I was agreeing with you in regards to the PL+ and was supplying Vileplume as an indicator of such. :) I would imagine the people who make the cards have some input on what gets rotated out (or the reverse where the people who determine the rotation give the people who make the cards some direction). As a result, Villeplume was created for a reason - to counter the SPs that they plan on keeping around.

SF-on: Some have mentioned this. Interesting why people want to keep Machamp in, yet kick out Unown G. This balances out some of the SP dominance, and keeps some favored cards in the set, also leaving a nice, solid number of packs to go off of. This also keeps Heatran lvl X for burn decks, and Dusknoir lvl X for Ectoplasm. This is an interesting choice, and I think it will work out to an extent if they choose this. Though, it would be odd to only keep one DP pack and kick out the rest, wouldn't you agree?

RR-on: This one is what interested people the most. They figured out if they kicked out all of the SP only trainers, it'd balance things out and make SP's not so dominant. But it did it a bit too well. Without many of these trainers, SP decks will be slowed down tremendously, causing them to become more rogue decks instead of winning almost all tournaments. No Uxie, Claydol, Azelf, or SP trainers. It does, however, leave a nice variety of packs for the next BR. Though, perhaps kicking out one platinum pack, and keeping the others doesn't seem to good.

These. SF on is the best choice imho. Machamp would be the crux of SP with no Unown G, but actually it wouldn't be as bad. They need to ban a few cards for SP imo, that would balance things out. No poketurn for example.

I personally think Platinum-On would be as much SP or nothing as some people say. In my opinion many underestimate Sp's reliance on Uxie. If SP doesn't start with a Cyrus, Uxie is another chance to help get it. Without Uxie, a start without a Cyrus could be game ending. Also, I think a Supporter driven format would be sufficient to keep the format working. It wouldn't be as consistent as with Claydol, but Claydol wasn't as consistent as the Holon Engine and we were able to adapt. Also, when decks are driven by supporters and not powers, Sp can't ruin the setup with Power Spray. I'm personally more worried about Gengar Prime than SP.

here are my thoughts

it will most likely be PT-on, but with all the draw cards, and changing weakness to all 2x,and the primes. nintendo might pull a total refresh of the card game. HG-SS on would be really neat imo.

inb4 yelling

anyways, something strange about PT-on, it would leave Drapion X a dead card. Now i know you guys are gonna say well no one used it, or that tons of cards arnt in our meta, but with no drapion in any of the sets after pt(even including PT) that means the card is COMPLETELY unusable. I think thats kind of odd.

long story short games about fun so just play and dont complain.

Same thing happened to Rocket's Persian EX from Ex: Unseen Forces in the Deoxys-On Format of 2006. No one made a big deal about it then and I doubt anyone would care about Drapion X in the same manner now.

ok then nvm. sorry im just getting back so i missed out on that whole generation.

thanks for letting me know.

I really hope its RR-on. Can you imagine a SP deck with 4 Hunter supporters and 4 Poke Turns? Broken.

He was refering to that as a flaw in a PL-on format, and saying that it should be RR-on
Ah, I see now. My bad

Would decks with Stage 2 even be viable for top tier with BTS gone? It's been a long time since I've tried using only Candies to evolve... and no more free heals with SSU 'cause it'll actually take more effort to get 'em set back up :frown: The only other card I can think of to speed up evolution is Spiritomb, which is clunkier in most decks 'cause you've gotta waste a turn's energy attachment to retreat it and you're getting trainer-locked in the meantime. Maybe a dark Flygon deck to give it free retreat? Or at least 1 dark energy in a deck with Spiritomb + Flygon? Either way, much more work than throwing down a BTS!

I'm expecting two scenarios - PT and on or as others have suggested AR and on.

Either way, I really don't care as I don't play at events often (not even the ones that hit up my area), but in fairness, I'd love to see it AR and on so the whole "Lux X" factor goes away.....
