Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

LostGar makes P!P stupid.

It's been stated by many top-players that LostGar wont be able to win Top Cut match play due to time restrictions and the inherent strategy of the aforementioned deck.

This encourages players to go X-0 at any given tournament and drop.

I thought it was Play! Pokemon, not Drop! Pokemon.

Because of this conflict, one of the following needs to change.

A. Employ Drop Restrictions
1. A player is allowed 3 unprecedented Drops per season. After that...
2. You can only drop if your Losses exceed or match your Wins.
3. If you Drop after the last Swiss round, 1 of your Wins is converted to a Loss or a Bye.

Those are just examples.

B. Change the current match play format.
1. Make 60+3 mandatory. No more 45+3.
2. Instead of 60+3, top cut matches play 2 games of 30+3. If needed, Game 3 would be 1 Prize Sudden Death.

I just don't think it's healthy for the game to increase the strategy of Dropping. Sure, Dropping is abused now, but just wait...

....And/or:

C. Change the invite structure from a rankings-focused system to a pro points system.

I agree that a deck shouldn't be made worse due to time rules, but the endemic dropping isn't due ONLY to that problem: it's due to people feeling the incentive to not play events. So, to get rid of Drop! Pokemon, you have to do more than fix one deck. I don't care if it's a pro point system or not, but that principle holds no matter what.

What's a pro points system?

Long story short, and specifics made general: a system in which players are rewarded for their good showings at events, and have little chance to gain for failing to complete an event.

No matter where someone stands on the somewhat-related issue of intentional draws, we all agree that P!P (then Pokemon Organized Play) did what they felt would best serve the legitimacy of their events. I would like to see them take that extra step for next season, and implement a new structure.

Lost World is the most broken game mechanic ever intoduced to the game, and one where whe have no way to counter it at all. Sad really that they would do such a thing to the game.

You sir have no idea what your talking about, and obviously haven't even looked at the rest of the cards in the set. In your overeager desire to be sure that Lost World is the most broken mechanic ever, you didn't even stop to consider that it is, in fact, a card that is keeping several decks that would run RAMPANT (with few counters) with out it to keep them in check. Lost World isn't breaking the game, it's saving it from being broken. Do your research before posting such blatantly wrong statements like this.

Hmm, I wonder who is considering playing Lostgar....

I'm not using LostGar. I'm just saying that the stadium is good for the game, as it keeps a few decks out there from being too powerful.

Such thoughtful (and a bit hateful) discussion.

Me? I don't know if LostGar is utter doom to the format or not. Only time will tell with that. I do agree that players should be able to drop if they really lost all desire to play anymore or in case of emergency. I also agree that players who routinely drop out of top-cut because their deck won't do good there and because they wish to conserve points are in the wrong.

On this note, I feel that top-cut itself should be changed to so discourage such acts from occurring. How to go about doing such however, I've no Earthly idea. >_<

As far as LostGar goes...I don't have the cards for the deck and am not sure if I ever will. If I did though, I'd probably run 2-2-2 Machamp SF in it for as long as it was legal. Seems like a good way to counter opposing Dark decks and SP as a whole, though it'd mainly be there to break deafen-lock when/if the goal of 6 was reached.

JMI, though.

OMG they are going to let lost world stay in format!?! Anyone who played it, or against it realizes how AWESOME IT IS!
