I've stayed out of this conversation for a while now because POP doesn't feel that it needs to explain every decision we make to the players.

This is understood by many. This format change seemed... odd. Fire Red/Leaf Green seemed like a natural new starting point, and several reprinted cards seemed to indicate it was likely... but the reasons given are all quite valid for both the current format and the decision for a split format. Just as a parent is wise to explain to a child why they are moving, so it is good to explain a format change to the players. You are correct in your approach to this thread, and hopefully there will be no need for you to post again.

ryanvergel: Either I typed it wrong, or you read it wrong, or something. I just mean that everyone and their dog will likely have a counter to Turn 2 Control in their decks. No, this doesn't automatically make T2 decks lose, nor does it make them "bad", but I am just pointing out that, much like the Magma decks of old, once this cat was out of the bag everyone began wracking their brains on ways to counter it.

RicePigeonKKM: Not really. Maybe the Dark Crobat version, but the Victreebel version will probably just toss an extra Ancient Tomb, Desert Ruins, or Battle Frontier in that spot. Some versions of Liability WANT the Weezing to die.

Players will ALWAYS discuss changes to our game. Whether it be rules changes or format changes, players will always air their opinions. To suggest that we dont need to discuss it because PUI have already done so I feel is a trifle condescending and treats us, the paying punters, as mere children! I believe we should be able to question certain decisions if we feel the need to do so. Of course its another matter entirely whether PUI want to answer those questions and they have the right not to do so if they choose. Just my thoughts....

I think you're reading that diffrently that I wrote it, Martin. Here, let me try again:

Countless hours were spent internally debating these changes and I do not feel that I need to discuss them further.

PUI is always interested in hearing discussions on our changes. Whether we step in and say something or not is a different matter.

Sorry for any confusion.

Now back to my regularly scheduled Sunday...

...sorry
wait...i'm curious. because TVR was reprinted in the QCP's in japan, does that mean that the japanese have TVR in the 2005-2006 format? japan never really had an emerald set--they had promos, which here, in america, became emerald.

ben, japan is playing, and probably will be playing, a different format anyway...They've never played the same format as us except at worlds

No problem at all Mike! Thanks for the reply- its always nice to know that we're listened to! *gets down from soapbox*

i know they are playing a different format, but, i was curious as to what sets they can use.
i realize that its frlg-on for them, but they never had an actual emerald set; it was just a bunch of promos there. are the cards that was our emerald legal for them? or, can they use ALL the cards (including tvr, which isn't reprinted here yet).
