Several of my 6-7 year old dragon shields are splitting really badly now.

They aren't perfect either.
After 6-7 years of play that sounds about good to me. I just personally hate Ultra Pro and know many people do too, the clear ones that came with the pokemon deck boxes back in wotc days would split very fast and easily, the cool metallic color ones and spiffy colors they fade really badly, and the normal ones don't last too long either. Dragon Shield on the other hand have worked really well for me, they seem kind of expensive, but they're worth it. (10$ for 100 sleeves). Like 6 years ago, Ultra pro had very good of those "penny" sleeves, like 100 sleeves for 50 cents or so, sure they werent as good as the expensive ones, but for the price they were actually very good, and protected very well. Now that i got into the game again, i bough a bunch of those, just for normal decks that don't need expensive sleeves (hey, i'll go to college next year, can't afford it), but even though i got the exact same kind they are now more expensive and they suck ;( just like regular penny sleeves.

I can't find the website right now for Dragon Shield, but many online stores sell them and most (hobby) game stores should sell them.

My old clear sleeves from the WOTC pokemon deck boxes are all still perfect, albeit a bit cloudy at this point from age.

Really? weird?
I always won those in tournaments so i had a bunch of them and they always broke, i hated them. I actually still have one of those sealed, maybe i'll open it...

It also depends on how rough you are with your sleeves...

The only problem I've heard with Ultrapro is that their sleves are too short... which has been fixed.

So, if retailers are getting them, we can expect to see them soon... great news. I'm gonna give out a couple sets of sleeves and a matching deck tin at my EX: Emerald prerelease.

I always use KMC Super Black sleeves now. Come in packs of 100 for around $6-$8. Potomac has a case of em for $35 (case=10 packs of 100).

I wouldn't really buy these if I were you people but thats just my opinion. If they banned the faerie dragon ones they will eventually do the same for these. JMHO

If they become an obvious problem they could be banned. There was alot of speculation on how they could be used to cheat when art backed sleeves were first released, but so far I havent heard of any problems with them yet, and I dont anticipate any.

The Sleeves werent banned... only reflective sleeves were banned.... the reason the design sleeves werent banned is cause i believe ultra pro approached pui to make pokemon sleeves so now they allow design sleeves...

well...obviously they HAD to approach pui for the images because pui has the rights to the images. its like...using the "dr. pepper" soda in the movie "spiderman 2" (ohhh no...not another spiderman 2 thing...sigh...). if you look around in the movie, you see dr. pepper like...EVERYWHERE. they need the rights before displaying a product.

I like dragon shields for normal play(I just bought 2 packs of white yesterday). but for the big stuff, max protection's new tournament sleeves are top, they come right out of the pack like silk. They shuffle easily, and don't stick together after a long time. I like those, and they're 100 for $5, can't beat that. I like my titanium ones.

Also in magic the decks have a sideboard, which means you'll need 75 cards in sleeves. And, the biggest reason... they want MOOLAH!!

Don't have a cow man. It's called marketing. Give them a tease on what is in the future, the people show off the sleeves. People go ohhh ahhh I WANT SOME! It's simple. The sleeves I was almost 100% positive they banned. At nationals last year they made me resleeve my deck because I used the art backed sleeves. IMO they should just get rid of any art backed sleeves no matter what design is on them. Just use one color sleeves that have no sparkle or anything to them.

The art backed sleeves were banned at US Nationals last year. They were new and we had not considered all of the implications of their use, so we decided better to be safe than sorry.

After Nationals we discussed the ramifications of allowing them in sanctioned play and decided to permit their use. If they prove to be a problem at events, they will be banned from sanctioned play.
