Next rotation?

lol everyone is like i hope its DEX-on so mewtwo is gone.... guys he wouldnt be gone theres a promo

I could be missing something since I don't know much about this topic, but couldn't they just rotate BW01-45 at the same time they rotate the sets the promos correspond to? There are some DEX cards there before Mewtwo (45), but to my understanding that wouldn't matter since their DEX non-promo counterparts would stay legal.

We might not even need 4 XY sets for the hard rotation, Japan has done a hard rotation into a 1 set Modified before (B&W on... with only the B&W base set legal!)

IIRC Japan rotated to BLW-on in Jan/Feb 2012. Their new format would have included sets from BLW-Dark Rush.

Next rotation prediction, NXD-on.

Hey guys, I was thinking of the rotation and I know everything is just speculation but people keep saying "DEX-on." Honestly? That's doesn't seem right to me. Why would they rotate some EXs out? NXD started the EX-era just like HGSS started the Prime-era and they were all rotated out together. It only makes sense, why rotate one EX, why not all together? Just like the transition from HGSS to BW, once a few sets for XY come out BW-EX sets will be rotated out.

That's just my thoughts on the rotation. It makes more sense than just stating "DEX-on."

I have no clue what went on before HGSS, so maybe I'm wrong but I'm just looking at the Primes, and how they were rotated out.

Thanks.

It makes no sense to me to rotate out 3 useless sets. Sure you get rid of Eels, but a rotation is supposed to be a big deal. Its supposed to make the game state more fresh. I feel like a minor rotation like that is just going to annoy people at best since all it does really is take out a few cards and destroys 1 deck which seems like a bias move.

I dont think TPCi is going to bother to rotate until XY. The game is already kinda out of it and to make any changes now will just make them look bad. Better to wait until there is a time to really start fresh. Even any sort of rotation with DEX on or DRX on would not really change much.

Once Plasma Freeze comes out everyone is just going to be running Team Plasma.dek as well as Klinklang and that's going to be mostly the meta outside the other red face powders, so realistically any rotation of anything older just doesnt make much sense since come next set a lot of stuff is gunna get outdated.

You're right but I just want to know, why people are saying DEX-on, I don't see why they would rotate out a couple of EXs and not all of them at once. Like Primes, Typhlosion was rotated out with the rest. I'm just saying, why 5 EXs here and there and not all of them.

Honestly I have no idea. It would be confusing and wouldnt make much sense if they did that since Mewtwo and Darkrai both came out in the same tin series, so Mewtwo would still be legal. Most of the trainers in NXD have been reprinted, so nothing but a bunch of random EX's that nobody plays along with other cards that nobody played would leave as well. Either way it ends up in an extremely pointless and inconvenient rotation that doesnt change much of anything.

Plus with HGSS, the entire series was legal. There was never parts of the series that were legal and the rest wasnt legal. I think that would confuse new players if a small portion of BW wasnt legal and the rest was. Im not sure historically but I dont think there ever has been too many rotations to where only parts of a generation have been legal (or at least a certain series of it). Like I could see it being Emerald-on or Platinum-on, but for it to be like Diamond/Pearl-on or Ruby Sapphire-on minus a few sets, doesnt sound right.

Just before this topic gets too far, where is the idea of rotation of certain sets coming from? No ones oficially said they're rotating anything at all yet and still people are going mad as to which sets they think will be switched out. I doubt the thought even occurs to people who think a rotation is coming, that there's a 95% chance that they're even close to right. I really hate people you think Pokemon are going to rotate ANYTHING without anything official to back it up. Just watch Japan's Pokemon TCG series and if anything over in Japan does rotate anything out, then you can come to everyone else and whine about it like a dying cat. In summary, what happened in the past thats making people think Pokemon is going to rotate anything?

P.S. Those people who think Pokemon is going to do DRX-on, They really need to go to a mental hospital to get checked for brain and mental damage.

With the amount of reprints we have, there would have to be a huge rotation for the format to be changed drastically.

Don't try and apply logic to your arguments of what sets should and should not go. The folks at TCPi have their own internal logic that doesn't always match ours. For example, a couple of years ago a lot of people thought they were going to rotate to Platinum-on using the same arguments that are being used in this thread. Instead they rotated to MD-on a set half way through the Diamond & Pearl block that left in Stormfront, a set with a lot of the "broken" cards in the format.

Here's a question... if they rotate out B&W, as in, the only set that has basic energies, can we still use energies in our deck, since technically none will be legal..?

Hasn't every rotation we've had included a 'base set' which included basic energies?

I feel like that may be a tip-off... let's see if we get energies with Plasma Freeze

Basic Energy is always considered legal no matter what sets are in the format.

Basic energies are always legal, even if no set in modified has them (it's happened before, I believe).

Ack, beaten to it. In any case, I swear, this has to be the most anticipated/speculated about rotation ever in the history of the game.

If the do a rotation this year, which may not happen due to how loose they are with reprints, it makes sense for them to rotate up to Dragons Exalted but when their goal is just making money and not really caring about the state of the game, common sense and whats best for something does not matter.

Okay, just because every plausible (and even a few implausible suggested mostly as jokes) rotations have been suggestions, it is highly probable "someone" will have guessed correctly. Whether they actually anticipated the internal logic used by TPCi is another matter.

For those wondering, the game of Pokémon rare fails to rotate sets out once per year. The game debuted in late December of 1998 in the U.S.A. (a very, very limited run to my understanding), more or less officially releasing in 1999. There was no rotation prior to the 2001-2002 season, but considering there were only three expansions officially released in 1999 (Base Set, Jungle, and Fossil) plus a reprint set consisting of most of Base Set and Jungle released with four other sets (Rocket, Gym Heroes, Gym Challenge, and Neo Genesis) in 2000, rotating for the 2000-2001 season would have been a challenge.

Since then, there was a single time when zero sets rotated out: the 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 seasons were both "DP-On". Otherwise, we have a pretty even distribution of rotating out three, four, and five sets. This is why most assume that the new format would be NEX-On (three sets out), DEX-On (four sets cut), or even DRX-On (five sets cut).

I think it will be NXD-on, because of the logos. Starting with Diamond and Pearl, they rotated in as Diamond and Pearl onwards, and Majestic Dawn onwards. Majestic Dawn has Diamond and Pearl in smaller font, while Diamond and Pearl, Mysterious Treasures, Secret Wonders, and Great Encounters has the regular sized Diamond and Pearl font.

If you also look at the logos, the ones for Mysterious Treasures, Secret Wonders, and Great Encounters have simple fonts with a colored background, red for Majestic Dawn, Green for Secret Wonders, and Blue for Great Encounters. Same with Black and White Emerging Powers being red, and Black and White Noble Victories being light orange.

Even in Japan, their logos changed with Psycho Drive Hail Blizzard, rather than having the set name along the side of the pack, they have it at the bottom of the pack.

The logos actually scream when they are going to rotate.

I may be wrong though, but I am very certain it will be NXD on, or else the NXD logo would have been designed similar to the Emerging Powers and Noble Victories ones.

Just think of this.

Diamond and Pearl Great Encounters
Diamond and Pearl Majestic Dawn

Hindsight bias:

Hindsight bias, also known as the knew-it-all-along effect or creeping determinism, is the inclination to see events that have already occurred as being more predictable than they were before they took place. ... A basic example of the hindsight bias is when, after viewing the outcome of a potentially unforeseeable event, a person believes he or she "knew it all along." Such examples are present in the writings of historians describing outcomes of battles, physicians recalling clinical trials, and in judicial systems trying to attribute responsibility and predictability of accidents.

Apparently it applies to predicting Pokemon rotations as well.

Not that I'm expecting a rotation but what's wrong with thinking DRX on? That's the only game changing rotation they could do. There's no mental damage involved in thinking that the rotation that would take out catchers, Darkrai, and Mewtwo would be anything but the most expected if one were to occur.
