Non-Professor wins Professor Cup!

Ehm, maybe I misunderstood something but I read this article like this:

Guy goes up, says hes not a professor since hes a minor but hes a league leader (and probably wouldve earned the points by that point if he was a prof). They say its fine since he is a league leader and allow him in.

Did I misunderstand something ?_?"

No, it is not the Staff's fault.
This is ENTIRELY the staff's fault. There was no ninja trickery involved. All the winner did was sign up knowing he didn't qualify.

It's the staff's job to do a basic check on contestants. And even if they don't check the entrants, they should at least dish the small effort to validate the winners. This false entry was VERY preventable.

yes /

Just FYI... i met someone who has banned for a couple years because he entered in a younger division in states and won...
This seems like a similar situation. The people who knew it was happening got the same punishment. The prizes were not taken back or sued for. So it'll probably be a ban unless P!P favors their professors and comes down more harsh. Which is actually probably true. But you can forget about criminal action or his school declining him, people do way worse without repercussions as bad as people have been mentioning.

yep, entirely the staff's fault...after all, how dare the folks at OP believe that the professors reaping the rewards of their program would adhere to both SotG and the professor core values, not to mention trusting that legal adults would have some basic morals and ethics? ALL the player did was lie in order to enter an event he had no right to participate in...

all their fault!
'mom =/

k...

because in this case I thought it was fine, when I played in the prof cup people were reaylly cool with the registration etc, I think someone even got in despite there being a mistake with the points. So I understood this as "hes not a prof but hes doing ssomething and will probably become a prof once he can and since hes here anyway lets just let him in" This just left me wondering why everyone was jumping him like this.

Nevermind then ;)

This might seem a little messed up here, but I kind of laughed at this. This is the funniest thing I have heard about happening in a Pokemon TCG event.

This kid actually entered a tournament he had no chance to enter, I wonder how many world champions did that(kiidding)?

On a serious note, there would be no point in trying to sue him, you will not win...it will simply come down to, "Then how did he enter if he was not invited." You can show facts as to why he was not invited, point of the matter is, he played, and he conqured. It sucks, I do feel bad for those deserving judges to be pushed over like that. Judges give soo much to make this game better for everyone.

Hopefully the judges who allowed him in can get their credentials checked out, properly trained etc.

This is to Mom...this is a 50/50 deal, they let him in....he cheated. No matter what you believe, that's how it is. Would we be having the same talk if he didn't win? DEFINITLY not!

He did not tell them he wasn't a professor. He led them to believe that he was one.

Did they screw up? Yes.
But they did not "let him slide" on purpose.

You mean the stolen iPhone that was dissected despite the person knowing for sure it was stolen, and then trying to sell said stolen property to the highest bidder?
Um, no. I was referring to the various leaked images of their products that are always posted. :p

i love you rew.

1717

so we know we luv rew...

And that's the TRUTH.

I think that WPM's analogy (a male competing in a beauty pageant) really underscores the "stealing issue" here. Plus, there's the whole matter about him damaging the prestige of the event, as well as embarrassing Play! Pokemon - Hell hath no fury like a marketing exec scorned, after all.

And to the guy who said "this is a big fraud - I actually won the event and have the trophy with me" : even if this were the case, it'd still be embarrassing for P!P, since the Professor Cup was not given much site coverage at all.

Wow, Interesting article to read.

I think it's terrible what he has done, but I agree with people saying that he earned the win...

The means in which he went about entering the tournament was wrong. That still dosen't mean first place was handed to him on a platter.

And people talking about sueing him? what the hell?
I even think personally a life time ban is to much, in the grand scheme of things what he did is minor...

I am in no way condoning what he has done, but take a step back people.

I am just glad I live in a country where people can't sue other people left right and centre for any dumb little problem that hardly effects there life. I personally think

1 year ban from all pokemon related things
Return of everything he won (trophy, prizes)
and being striped of the title would suffice ?

I dunno, maybe I am to kind / light hearted. I love pokemon but in the grand scheme of things there are a hell of alot more things that are a hell of alot more important right?

As far as i am concerned his participation in the event is blatent fraud. He lied about who he is. He proceeds to get financial gain from this fraud. Sounds like pretty good grounds for criminal charges to me. Do I think its worth the time and effort for P!P to pursue charges? No its not worth it. But if this person is in college, he is an adult and should be treated like one. Fraud is fraud. Whether its like the person here did, or someone using another person's credit card. A person is pretending to be someone they are not for monetary gain.

He didnt cheat at a card game. He lied to make money.

I didn't lie to make money. I clearly stated in the article that I played to pass the time because my ride wasn't leaving until night. Jeez, are people making me out to be horrible scum? I've been getting hurtful comments all day ; AND IT's my fault. I know. But, I didn't plan on things to end up this way. Just pelase... Don't say things that arnt true. I lied and snuck into it to pass time; that is the truth.

Technically no, yet...technically yes. If the kid is smart(which seems like he has some brains), he will give the money away to charity with a check made from Pokemon USA.

This is to Rush17...you did know there was a prize, that's the truth.

Hi. Are you going to return the products you won to TPCi, or at least what they were worth? That's what I mainly want to know.

I lied and snuck into it to pass time; that is the truth.

And open play and league events, that were open to all, either weren't good enough or didn't have good enough prizes...

Plus, those would not have helped pass the time at all either...

This saddens me to no end...

The fact that he managed to get in, and the fact that he actually participated, let alone win the whole thing x.x

EDIT: but you're selling the trophy...and you want to sell the Kindle for laptop money...
