This is a counter-punch deck designed to build power, until it has enough resources to run off several one hit KOs, exhaust the opponent's offense and then run the table to the victory.

19 Pokemon
4 Celebi (the preferred starter, grabs energy, then redistributes it before KO)
2-2 Exeggutor (this should follow Celebi and last two turns getting 4 energy)
4-2 Bulbasaur, Ivysaur SW (if you start with Bulba, autosleep for free)
1 Ivysaur CG (alternate weakness)
4 Venusaur CG (main hitter, OHKO with Green Blast or Stall w/ Toxic Sleep)

20 Trainers
4 Mentor
4 Celio
4 Rare Candy
2 Wager
1 Copycat
1 Night Maintenance
(Trainers below are kinda random, since I lent my other trainers)
1 Mars
1 Oaks Visit
2 Stevens

21 Energy (to add 10 each to Venusaur's Green Blast).
13 Grass (enough to one-hit the Blissey without Venusaurs power, but seriously, it almost happened once)
3 Boost (adds to Green Blast with Chlorophyll Poke-Power)
3 Scramble (adds 3 to Green Blast when you start your comeback)
2 Cyclone (get away from me Cessation Crystal!)

Attach an energy every turn to build up for Green Blast. Start with Celebi and search out an energy. When threatened, Leaf Tornado the energy to the bench and take the KO. Send up Exeggcutor & Nutritional Support two turns and take the KO. Send up a Venusaur with just two energy to return the KO; hopefully you have several Scramble attached to your bench by now. Use Venusaur again, if possible & keep attaching energy each turn. Try to bench out your opponent!

It was good versus Blissey, if it sets up before the Blissey can one-hit the basics. Its 3-2, 2-3 at Cities... being busy really trapped me into playing it, as it was the only thing I could get set up. I thought I'd throw it up here to see if the members could see something to help it.

21 Energy sounds like too much. I bet you waste a lot of your draws on them. I'd suggest putting a couple Castaway + a couple tools like Strength Charm/Buffer Piece. Castaway can be used to get energy, making up for the removal of some. So...

-4 Grass Energy
+2 Castaway
+1 Strength Charm
+1 Buffer Piece

Nice deck :thumb:! It is great to see something original here.

Roseanne's Research is also a great card to grab energy too. I'd replace the Mentor with them.

1 Mars won't do much. You'd be better off with 2 Oak's Visit then 1 Mars and 1 Oak's Visit.

You might look into a tech or two of the new Venusaur from Secret Wonders. If you can Poison the Blissey, it should go down a bit easier. Also the new Venusaur has more HP and can abuse Boost with the help of the CG Venusaur too.

I'd drop Exeguttor. Exeguttor doesn't abuse Scramble or Boost energy since Venusaur only makes the special scramble and special boost energy provide special grass energy, and Exeguttor only uses basic energy for it's flippy attack. Also Exeguttor's lack of HP is a liability when you put a lot of energy on it.

Gymbo ex made a good thread about his Venusaur deck a while back. Even though your deck focuses more on the other Venusaur, you could check out his trainers/energies as maybe a suggestion on how to fix up this deck's trainers/energies.

Good luck with the deck!

Hey there,

I've been using Venusaur in the two Cities I played in this season. But I used the newer Venusaur with the PokePower. I understand your strategy with the deck and Venusaur CG, but you might want to consider using 1-2 of the new Venusaur? Hitting heads on Poison sure comes in hand when you need to do 10 more damage, or if you need to 2HKO something and hit them with Sleep to keep their attacker from touching you. I am a huge fan of Celebi, it's the best thing going for Grass decks right now. Its energy acceleration for a Basic Pokemon is wonderful. I am iffy on Exeggutor though, I understand how it fits with this deck, but I am not sure, it would be great if it could take advantage of Scrambles and Boosts.

I also think you are running a little bit too much energy. I think you could take advantage of Warp Points instead of Cyclone Energy if you are annoyed by Cessation. That's what I've been doing. Plus, with the Warp Points you could help retreat a Venusaur that have high retreats. Players typically don't play 2 Crystals at once because of the fear of Windstorm, so that can help you out. I would drop the Cyclones. Since such a big part of your deck has to do with going into your deck and getting Grass, you are only running 13. Now don't get me wrong, I've only run 12, and been fine, but I don't have as much energy acceleration. I can see the Scrambles, and the Boosts, but I'm kind of iffy on Boost. I would be more partial to DRE, even though you do less damage you have higher recovery potential. I would drop the Boosts (again, I see the point to the strategy - just trying to provide alternate viewpoint). I would shave the energy count to 17 - 11 Grass, 3 Scramble, and 3 DRE. I think with the energy this way, although it is not as attached to the central strategy, it does give you more options once you lose a Venusaur - and plus I am a more conservative player. The DRE would help you be more aggressive with status (IE: Venu's Toxic Sleep)

I am a big fan of using Quagsire d with Buffer Piece just because of the huge staying power you have, especially if you exploit Toxic Sleep. Perhaps you could test as an alternate backup to Exeggutor? I've been fine with just using Celebi, but I've focused on the SW Venusaur and it was not key to the strategy to have a lot of energy in play. But, Quags is a great card with Buffer, and does provide good backup versus Fire.

I am going to plug in my standard list for Trainers and has been successful in setup for Cities and playtesting prior to the Cities. I consistently found myself set up - so hopefully it aids you as well. Below is the final version of my changes to your deck:

Pokemon: 20
4 Celebi (SW)
4 Bulbasaur (SW)
2 Ivysaur (SW)
4 Venusaur (2 CG, 2 SW)

Good luck, oh and I wanted to thank you for all of your hard work on the Boards and with the Rulings. It's good to see Mods and Administrators posting decks. Have a blessed New Year!

Kim: Take Jim's advice, add 1-2 SW Venusaurs. They are nice. I like the looks of the deck. How does it stand up to Gardy/lade w/ absol? I like Eggs, but w/o the special energy counting for the flips, I think I might take them out, opening up a few more slots for things like buffers, windstorms, more trainers....whatever is your fancy for the metagame.

Good luck with the deck!

Keith

Thanks everyone. I'll rearrange and do some play testing, esp v. Gardy. Keith, this deck lost to the only G&G deck it played; as I say it was more for BR & I just kinda got stuck with it. Special thanks to Jim for the detailed comments... that took some work. And, yes, I never attack with Exeggutor's offensive attack.

I think the SW Saur would help the G&G matchup. Candy up a quick SW Saur on the bench, then each turn, you can try for a status condition on the oppo's active. That would be one way to slow down an absol start. Plus, the healing ability of its attack is nice also, altho flippy.

Venusaur can actually go head to head with Gallade if you run the right build. Once they flip over all their prizes (or most of them) to KO 1 Venusaur, the most they can do is 80 with Sonic Blade. With Buffer Pieces, and heads on Giant Bloom flips (speaking about SW Venusaur), you have huge staying power. You 2HKO Gallade (if you hit heads on Poison) or you can put them to sleep prior to your first attack and see if they fail on the sleep check, giving you a turn without damage. It's a winnable matchup - challenging though.

~Jim

Take out 4 energy and add in 4 pokedex 910, it'll help get all the non-basic energies and rare candies after you've gotten all the basic energy from Roseanne's.

POKEMON 14

4 Celebi

4 Bulbasaur (2 SW, 2 CG)
2 Ivysaur (SW)
4 Venusaur (2 SW, 2 CG)

TRAINERS 31

3 Buffer Piece
2 Warp Point
1 Night Maintenance
1 Time-Space Distortion

“Stage 2 Fishing Engine”
4 Great Ball
3 Master Ball
4 PokeNav
3 Pokedex
3 Birch
1 Copycat
2 Rowan
4 Rare Candy

ENERGY 15

3 Double Rainbow
10 Grass
2 Scramble

OK, a little strange and out of left field, but I will explain the process. By stream lining the deck a bit, and sticking with some of the main focus, Celebi start, I took this a little bit into the stage 2 “Fishing Engine” I had been working with. It is a risky play and takes some getting used to, but it has worked so far.

First the Draw, well lack of it as it appears. Most Gardy players like having big hands and the ability to utilize their opponents searching cards. I have eliminated this with the style of engine. The Fishing Engine does do much more than just get Pokemon and Energy, and really takes away an advantage to many decks right now. Does Absol hurt it, well yes if you get that awful opening hand of mass trainers since there are 31 here, but you recover effectively do to being able to play multiple search “Fishing” cards in a turn and thinning your hand. Celebi is awesome as it also thins your deck of Energy and can do so for nada, squat, zilch! These two factors help key in the chances of getting the Master Balls and Navs to grab those Pokemon early on!!

Pokedex is there to grab a Candy or Draw card and continue with opening your options! Rowan and Copycat just love Gardy, force them to shuffle in their hand for a replacement of 4 or a possible withered hand for Copycat. With the ability to stack Special Conditions, you will no doubt be able to take a lull if one occurs. Just remember that Scramble and DRE can be grabbed by PokeNav!

I opted for no Celio’s do to all the thinning happening here and went for the Buffer Piece that Jim loves so much. They do help quite a bit, especially if you can attach one to Celebi when they go for the donk with Blissey!

It is tricky, but it works well!! Hope you like it and nice original deck list there!!

~Prof. Fish~

BTW, that is the unveiling of my Stage 2 Fishing Engine! Hope you like it!

wwwwwwwaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy tooooooooooooo many energy. take some out for some mr.stones to get your grass energies
Mr. Stones was never an outstanding card. Castaway and the new Rosanne's Research overshadow it by a long shot for getting energy since they offer so much more options with their selections. I don't think that would be the right choice for this deck.

Take out 4 energy and add in 4 pokedex 910, it'll help get all the non-basic energies and rare candies after you've gotten all the basic energy from Roseanne's.
Yeah, I like Pokedex HANDY910is, it is a great card from what I've found. Pretty much any deck that has the space for them should play them. This deck could easily make room for them since Exeggutor is up for removal.

Prof Fish: I like the fixes you made. That may actually make the deck a bit more viable vs a G & G deck. Of course, you need to get the Venu's (hopefully 1 of each) up fairly early when they take out the celebi.

Keith

I made a similar deck earlier on and didn't get this many helpful comments :s Ah well.

Just wait til Sceptile comes out next set, will make this amazing even if it is two Stages 2's. Two energy per energy card! Imagine the speed!
