OMG he beats 1 person's deck!! that's like WOW! OBV best person in the world... geez seriously keep this talk to urself, there are gazillion of decks out there, just because it beats 1 person's deck doesn't mean anything =/ and please don't come back with a 'i won 2 states' argument =/

I don't think you're seeing the sarcasm.

Actually if he beat both of Alexs decks then this deck may be pretty good. Hmmmm, now i wonder what it is.

Funny thing about those ultra meta-game decks. They never get to the final rounds to actually have to play against the decks that they had been meta-gaming againts.

I should have won but I got the worst match up against "(insert one of 12 decks that are ran in tourneys)".
Nothing wrong with your deck not being able to handle one deck, but when the deck doesn't match up well against several, then you are looking at a 3-3 and watching.

Quit getting off topic talking about the deck, we all know its going to win nats, worlds so just give up. Its actually sort of a common deck, but I play about two cards in it (maxed at 4) that I simply cannot believe nobody has discovered the synergy in. The only way I lose is if I get a terrible start, but if I get going, I win every game. The only hard matchup is the mirror, and since nobody plays the deck but like Seena, Al, Jay and myself, its only going to be tough in the Top4 of Nats and Worlds when we're all facing each other ;)

BACK to the topic at hand.
Man... if you're so upset with the way the game is going... how about... finding something else to do? I don't see anything wrong with the way things are running-- I know we have a heck of a lot more support than we've ever had. I get at least 1-2 new League players every week or so... If you really wanna promote pokemon, promote it yourself. I'll tell anyone in a heartbeat that I run a pokemon league, and the majority of the time, people are interested (I'm 18 mind you... the generation of 6th graders who were totally obsessive... now gaining cash from jobs, etc...) It doesn't seem to me like Pokemon needs huge media coverage or sexiness or much of a change at all to be awesome.
This "Love it or leave it" mentailty makes me SICK. It seriously just gives me a horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach. Just because you like something and want to make it better means that you should just "leave and go find something else?" That's complete hogwash. I love the game, so as a result I want to see it get better. What don't you get?! Just because I want to see pokemon regarded highly means that I should find a game that is already regarded highly and play that-- how do you think those games got to that level? Just stop doing something I love because I have vision?

Also, I am but one man! One man can only do so much. You learn in the business world that just because you're working harder than someone else doesn't mean you're getting more done! Martin Luther King wasn't a politician, he didn't make laws. In essence, he wasn't getting anything done for the civil rights movement at all. He couldn't change any of the laws that were unfair towards african americans. What he did, however, was inspire MILLIONS (see: Million Man March) to realize his vision for his people. Then, they did the work through his guidance. Obviously my plight isn't at his magnitude, but my love of this game is analogous to his love of freedom! If I start a league, I can only get done a little. If I make a change in the mindsets of all pokemon players to realize the dream for a better game, then I have done much.

PS: Pokepop I won the STS!

What is this thread even talking about anymore...???

...

Seriously, I'M SO FRIGGIN' LOST!!! Is this about some guy who won an STS, and now has some uber two card combos...? I mean, i'll believe it when i see it, which could be fun to see...lol Oh well!:p

Quit hijacking our post Zim, Gym. This is about media coverage. Everyone else BESIDES myself and a few others have taken it upon themselves to criticize and (attempt to) devalue our AMAZING tournament sucess (which was, btw, an STS win). We need media coverage. Any ideas on how to get this done. I'd like to start off by having the winners of every state championship be in the bottom-scrollers on CNN. We can move up to full-length pieces for the bigger tournieis. HOW CAN WE MAKE POKEMON BIG? Obviously WOTC took all the money that it made and went to the bank with it. Nintendo is actually interested in putting money back into the game, but doesn't have the same cash it used to. Why? Not as much exposure! We need to work on more exposure, media coverage, a sexier image, etc! List some tips on how to get this done, not sit there and say "this post will be locked." Seems like everytime someone wants to make the game better we need to shut them up. Not this time!

Now, all you hijackers, we've said nothing negative to you until YOU said something to US. Keep that in mind, and get back on topic. Mom: If you want to tell someone about our STS sucess (and lie about it, we won on the same day), do it over PM. Gymbo: If you think this post is going to be locked, start a thread in the RTC about how this post is going to be locked. QUIT HIJACKING! Back to media coverage! BRAINSTORM! LETS HEAR YOUR IDEAS!

PS: Gymbo, when your sig is 3x longer than your post it just shows that you're an attention hog who needs more space on the threat filled up by your post! If you can't at least say as much text as in your signature, it probably isn't important, and with that HUGE sig is just clogging the post. Upon further review, not only is your MASSIVE signature taking up room, but your post is hijacking the topic! Cut the fat in your sig, not just your belly ;) You need Atkins for UBBs.

I cannot argue with someone such as Moss, who actually WON an STS, opposed to my 2nd place at one. His greatness eclipses mine endlessly. He is right. He WON an STS.

Get a DVD out in the style of the roadside cop documentaries where you have car chases by 8 year olds weaving left and right on the highway. Fill it with champions from the past and present, and their tips on how you can improve your play. Package it with an exclusive promo. It'll be great.

Great thread =)

"How would you like to own this jet, this car, this bus, this deck, and go on the road looking for beautiful women? Pokemon Gone Wild is the place for you! While you may not find any beautiful women, you sure will find a lot of card players, and some big cash prizes! Meet your host Doug Stanhope as he takes you on a journey across America looking for the hottest teens and the best cardplayers!"

^------ I'd buy it.

The chicks really dig my Professor shirt. But I am married so I dont wear it out much. I dont need all those women fawning over me and my poke prowess.

just my .02

Isn't there paperwork for you States Winners that you fill out and send in that you put your local newspaper and stuff like that? Then Nintendo/POP/whomever contacts your local media and lets them know about your winning. Then that leaves it up to the local media to decide to run something or not.

I would've thought our local media might have been interested in a family of City Champions but we never heard from anyone.

So how can we get the media to pay more attention to these things? And in a positive light?

And no i don't have an STS jacket, World's jacket, nor a Professor jacket.

OMG!!11!!!
An actual on topic post!!!
You know, the actual subject of this thread is pretty important and potentially useful, if people can get past who's uber and who's not and actually start tossing real ideas around.

Lie? Actually, no...it's just been SO LONG that I don't remember all the details of the WCSTS...ancient history, you know...

*shrugs* My bad, get over it...

Pop: You dont have to wait for the local media to be contacted through PUI/Nintendo with the winers info. A local player, TO, PTO, Profesor, etc can contact their local papers/media BEFORE the event and see if they will send someone out to take photos and report it themselves. Moss or Ghaz....have either of you 2 contacted your local media to begin the "hyping" up of Pokemon TCG??

Our Michigan State Champion is getting a story run about her in her school paper and she thinks that is more than awesome. :p

I have gotten local coverage in the paper several times after premier events in our town.
I just write up something include a photo and call it a press release.

Not hard.

Yes Pop....I was replying to BJJ's post quoted w/in your post LOL. Sorry and I'll pay more attention next time :)

Dateline Saturday night;

At League and talking to the Ken the store owner. He asks if had read the paper as RI States is mentioned on the first page of the Lifebeat section of the paper. I had not read the paper (i was still working on Thurday's) so when i got home, i looked at the paper and the Lifebeat section is the section of the paper that has the comics, movie reviews, tv listing, Abbey's Mailbox, stuff like that. There is a side colum called Seize Today on the front page of that section and lists various events and at the bottom of that column:
In search of a champion
For the Pokémon fans out there, tomorrow is a big day. The state tournament, held in Johnston, will crown a Rhode Island Pokémon Champion, who'll travel to the National Championships in Ohio this summer.
The tournament takes place tomorrow at noon, at Disposable Heroes, 1428 Hartford Ave., Johnston. There will be three age categories: 6 to 10, 11 to 14, and 15 and older. The first place winners in each division will receive a trophy and travel allowance to atttend the National Pokémon Championships in Columbus, Ohio, in July.
Admission is free. For more information, visit www.op.pokemon-tcg.com/

Now i know i didn't get that put in there (i was wondering how to get it in there but never found out how). So today i asked Tom, the TO, and PokeMeBob and neither one of them put it in there. Tom figures POP must have gotten it put in there.

The result: 20+ participants in the 10 and under division (i believe it was 25+ even). Yes many came unprepared and really didn't know how to play. But they came and they were told of League being held at DH and at TJ's. I loaned out like 6 decks and threw together another one just so everyone who wanted to play could. Many of them dropped as the round progressed for various reasons ("Didn't expect to stay this long", "Had to go") but i believe the all had a good time and am hoping they show up for League. During the middle rounds, someone with a camera did show up, but i don't know if he was from the Providence Journal or the local Johnston paper.
Some felt that advertising a States was kind of a waste - the new players were not ready for that level of competition and basicly just not ready. But i liked the idea that it was advertised as it brought to many new players (and some old) that Pokémon had tournaments and Leagues that they could attend.

Hopefully Regionals will be advertised too! (Since this event was free, it could be put in the paper like that. Since Prereleases cost money, they will not be able to be put in like that, or so i was told).
