People keep asking me to start a Team.

I've gotta admit, it would CERTAINLY be nice to get a little help with working ideas out in less than 3 weeks per deck idea .. LOL! (i sit and work and work.. and dismantle... alot.. )

I guess my question to you guys is...

Do iNet Teams REALLY help each other? Or is there like a couple of poor gullable souls posting away while the rest just lurch-n-leech away ideas (and spread them to others!)

How secret is a team's "Secret Deck"?

I'm tempted to kick this thing off, but is it worth the effort of setting up the team site?

I've seen some failed efforts too :/

What's your opinion of teams?

Help or not?

I say that in some cases, networking within a team spawn alot creativity , but-most teamsor members here are leeches .I personally keep my deck ideas in a notebook and test them at my league

Teams (at least, good ones) are amazingly helpful. The amount of play testing you can get done alone makes it well worth your time. It's also very helpful to have lots of other good deck builders to bounce your ideas off of.

Yes, we would still like you to be on Hatter. :p

I was the owner of a team for a while. We won a lot of stuff and we did help each other a lot. But the team fell apart after a while, for lots of different reasons. Was it worth it? Not really. It turns out one of my members was telling one of our rival teams everything.

You need a real legit team for it to be helpful. I've been a part of several teams, and many of them failed. However, a team like X-Files has been around for years and has won a LOT because of each other. The Truth Is Out There.

Thus the reason I said, join a good team. lol

The idea is awesome, and as long as there is a solid core of talented, experienced players a team can be beneficial in a lot of ways, including both making newer players better and offering the experienced players a place to test and bounce ideas off of friendly peers.

Of course team members all need to be trustworthy too, and contribute back in their own way to the team. As some have said, the passing on of "secret" information that a team has worked together to gather really can put a damper on the whole gig. Teams that are really all-inclusive and very public (Not in the sense of "I'm a member of team ______", but that forums are open to all, etc.) can sometimes be counter-productive, though they certainly might make their members feel special to be a part of something.

Now I'll resist the urge to shill myself for candidacy for any team as described above so as to not totally derail this thread.

I haven't ever been a part of a team, but teams that look well put together interest me. Not enough to apply, since a lot of teams come off as elitist, but enough to wonder what's going on in there.

I think if a league has people that contribute to the boards, it will work out. If RA makes a team, I'll join (if you let me). Maybe PokeGym could make a Private section for teams.

Make it with people you know that are close to you that you know will help without leaking.

You should start your own team : )
I am sure you would be a great leader, and if people keep asking you too, at least you know there will be members.
Choosing members is interesting though, IMO. You can try to go after "pro-type" players or you can start with people you think will be good. When I started my team, I went with the latter. I asked some people that aren't exactly the most popular *coughdarthpikacough*, but I knew they had the potential to be great players and I could tell by some of their work that they would indeed become great. At the end of last season, I checked and saw that every member that had been on the team since the beginning had gotten at least top 8 at a major event. That is what I would personally strive for when creating a team, not so much getting the big name players, because your team can create the next crop of those players.

Again, just my opinion, I know nothing.

I agree with this, obviously. X-Files has helped me a lot in the time I've been there.

When I was a member on topcut while it was still around, those really good players (Chris Fulop, Drew Holton, Chad Harris, etc.) would all say the big difference between decent and good players and the really good players is the group of people they play with. If you play/playtest with a group of people who are at the same level or better than you, you will get better. I've seen this with bands I have been in as well. Of course, while those top level players that have each other to play against and build decks together are particularly privileged in that regard, I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult to find some pretty decent folks around here. You have put up a lot of good threads that generate a great deal of quality content, and it is the sort that this site certainly needs more of. For this you have garnered a lot of respect from good people here, so don't be afraid that you won't be able to find people to work with.

If you really want to safe guard against leeches or lazy members, you could have a sort of application process to join your team. I've seen a couple of teams that do this sort of thing. You could require applicants to put up a deck article and/or a resume of past tournament accomplishments for a review board to look at and decide if he/she is worthy. If you want to be able to include newer players that lack tournament experience in your team, you could give your team members assignments, such as presenting at least one full deck article to the team every month or so. This way, everyone contributes to the team and each individual gets a chance to be in the spot light where he/she can get the team's attention on his/her own ideas. These are just my ideas, do what you will with them.

Hi RA, I have only 1 t add to what the others said. You migh want to think about what your team does and is going to b known for (Like Hatter's team is known for being elitist for example). I think you'd be best as the leader of a team that makes rogues work in the format. lol

<3 ya Josh.

Again, really the biggest help I've found is just the play testing potential. I can put up a list, and have it play tested. This is amazingly helpful in the respect that, you get a LOT more play testing done, and that you can have something tested out even if you don't have the time to do it.

For the record, if you start your own team, moochers and lazy members are easy enough to deal with. Simply make a statement that says something along the lines of "if you don't contribute, you're off the team". Simple as that.

i think it works i had a team with another game i played that was web based and we alsways had great ideas with each other and even better when we got to gether for tornys and stuff i would love to get my team on up and runing plus i think it would bring some friendly rivals among each other. i have guys on here that i trade with like there right here next to me and work on decks together and also how cool would it to be to see diffrent teams win diffrent states and regions and stuff like team donk sauce take 40 out of 50 states lol i think we should give it a trial run and i would like to be a giena pig if needed

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

also to the leaching thing we had passwords to get into our team page with the leader giving them out and letting people inlist on the team

I don't think you are allowed to post threads about teams.
Making teams, looking for teams, etc...
I got fussed at for it.
But yes, teams are helpful and fun!

This is more of a discussion if teams are worth it/useful. Not necessarly forming one.

How is my team elitist? Please explain to me how.

Anyway, yeah, the inactivity of people can get quite annoying. Also, make sure you can really trust the people, you don't want them giving out there password to Gino's team and saying they could log on whenever they wanted to so they could view your forum.[saying that from experience obviously]

Also, Secret Decks, I kinda laugh at them. No deck is going to be entirely secret anymore. We are past the time where you could guarantee your team was the only one to think of a certain deck[like RaiEggs]. Now, for example, when Dialga G was made, it wasn't like the people whose "SD" is was were the only people to think of the deck. They took the deck and made it better than all the other Dialga G decks.
I think the term Secret Deck has turned into.. Who can take a good deck/popular deck and give it the necessary changes to go to the top.
The combos now are so obvious SD's aren't really going to be SD's.

My last comment on teams; People are going to hate your team because they don't like you personally. I find that rather interesting that some people dislike a team because of the person in charge, even when the team could be full of that persons friends. I can say that: Afstandopelern does not like Team Hatter because he got kicked off for various reasons. He may be bitter about it, idk, but just kinda tell everyone on your team that it's OK if not everyone likes you. I have talked to people who have wanted to leave teams because people didn't like the team.

R_A would be a great team leader. He's already like one of the best mods around here. The Wynaut avatar has sorta become iconic around here.

Teams help lots, you always have people to test with and you're aware that their skill level is appropriate. Secret decks should stay secret, though some members give the occasional leak (Getting drunk and telling a bunch of people... true story :/). But with a team you make sure you get your testing done and your ideas don't leave the circle at the same time. You also have people to bounce ideas off of without having to come here and toss the concept out in public.
