Sorry for the late notice, but the PokeGym Mutant Madness Draft will be at Nationals with some major changes to avoid issues like last year.
Date and time:
Saturday July 9th.
Registration starts at 9:30PM and is ongoing.
Play starts at 10:00 PM and is ongoing.
Format: Draft with 8-16 player pods. To avoid the issues of early arriving players waiting and waiting as more players trickle in, we will be podding players and sending them off to play as we fill out 16 or 8 player pods. 16 will be the preference, but as players start trickling, we will switch to 8 player pods to keep things moving.
Admission: 6 booster packs of cards from any Pokemon set. We cannot accept money or sell you packs at the event. However, both Collector's Cache and Troll & Toad are aware of the event and are putting together Mutant Madness packages of 6 packs of random old cards at $20 for use at the event.
So, either bring your own packs, or pick some up at the on-site vendors!
You're not going to play with the packs you bring. They all go into a big kitty and then we randomly distribute them.
You will get 6 packs back from all different sets. Actually, not randomly. We spread out the packs so you will probably get packs from 6 different sets.
Prizes: Players will receive the new PokeGym 2011 dice, one to a player, while supplies last. This will conform to Pokemon Tournament Rules and be usable as a randomizer for the Pokemon TCG. Additional prizes will be announced as we gather donations toward them. Not to worry, there are always additional prizes!
Draft Rules:
Draft rules are as normal. Open a pack, choose a card, pass the pack to the player next to you (direction switches with each pack), take the pack from the player on your other side, choose your next card, rinse and repeat until all cards in the group of packs have been selected. Take 10 seconds to review your choices, then open the next pack, choose a card, pass in the other direction, and so on.

How to build a deck from random cards??
Well, evolutions can happen one of two ways:
1. A normal evolution. Psychic Ralts from RS can evolve into Fire Kirlia from DF.
2. Any Pokemon of a type can evolve into the next stage of that same type.
example:
Play Baby Magby(Fire Type). (This is a Baby that either has the Baby Rule, or Baby Evolution, not HGSS-on)
Evolve into Moltres ex
Evolve that into Charmeleon
Evolve that into Charizard(hey, a normal evolution!)
Level up that into Infernape Lv. X
