Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Pokemon TCG for DS

With the two screens and touch screen it would work really good,
I thought the idea of a TCG game was dumb but when i played it i ended up buying it the same day, i really liked it, and it was entertaining. A sequel was actually released that had all the cards up to neo 2 or 4, and expanded a lot on the first game, it only came out in japan though, and as far as i know the first game sold good in the US and both sold good as well in japan. And there were some complicated rules back then as well :b

The thing is, to make a really good TCG game, you'd need to either program the AI to adapt its decks to the "metagame", which is insanely hard at best. Or else just give the enemies overpowered unique cards for its use only (those who've played Edo's Yu-Gi-Oh PC game should know what that's all about).

Of those choices, the latter is easier to do, but it also sucks the fun out of the game. Can you imagine if a boss was hitting you with something like Sneasel while you were playing a bad version of the original Haymaker? It wouldn't be pretty.

Also, while a card-creation engine would be interesting, it would get stale quickly. I pretty much gave up on making an SS set after making unique cards necessitated creating my own card type (actually I'd made four new mechanics and two new card types). Things just got stale, like I'd seen it all before. Plus, without any balancing factors, cards would be broken like no tomorrow.

I think maybe the CPUs decks should be based off real archetypes and popular decks, if they make another TCG for Gameboy.

Yes, but only for elite and possibly gym leaders. For one, if they super-good decks early on, you'd never advance in the game (unless they got one basic and nothing else). Plus, that game was designed for ten and under people (remember the commercial), and not everyone goes to tournements. Designing the game for tournement players would be good for us, but it would stink for the majority of buyers.

I personally though that the first GB Pokemon TCG game was great. Sure, the difficulty was way low for the "Hi Up" trainers, but it was fun and most importantly it was a fantastic teaching tool. A new player could pick it up and learn quickly because in a Video Game you can't make mistakes and break the rules like you can when learning a game on your own. Make it as much like the real world of Pokemon TCG. Have leauges, casual tournaments, competitive tournaments and gyms, then also of course some story line with maybe a rival. Be able to buy packs with money won, not just win packs. This would help newer players get to know what are in the sets. The more variety the better, and the GBA slot could be used for memory storage. Every time a set in the real world comes out, download the data into the DS and the packs/promos as well as new computer decks become available. Nintendo could make a killing off of this.

I'f they did make one they would have to include the stylus for drawing cards and placing them as well but yet it still would be awsome.

They haven't come up with it yet because it wouldn't make money, and if it doesn't make money, rest assured, nintendo won't do it.

Of course it would make money. There are tons of people that don't play the TCG that much that would really appreciate a portable version.

Pokémon is not the popular franchise it once was. Not that many people will eat it up simply because it's pokémon.

Uh, what beat Halo 2 for 3 weeks when it was released? Do I hear firered version? It would be extremely difficult to keep updating the sets. They should do it after worlds, not now, when so many cards are being released all at once.

You see, now if they have some online download patching capablities once new sets are released...?

The above is pure wishful thinking, of course lol! But, if they could get to that level of 'excellence' or whatever you'd want to say, then by god, i'd be all for it! Personally, i'd really enjoy it, because i'd use it as a portable apprentice alot of the time, rather than disrupt a prerelease or other tourny by setting up an actual game!

I'd post more, but i have to go for now... Be prepared to hear my ideas and rantings on the matter later! lol

You know, there is the no-one-around-to-play argument for many people (who oddly don't find each other), and so a DS or GBA or XYZ version of the TCG would be great for them. I for one continued to play the game after my friends stopped/sold/gave away their cards. I had to almost beg for them to at least use my decks to play. Just pressing an "on" switch would be most welcomed to people with similar experiences.

And there is the whole kiddy persona of Pokémon that keeps people from unfurling a tabletop of cards for the world to criticize. With a little screen(s) to house your duels, it makes the game/brand much more approachable, which would give reason to believe in the marketablity of a DS TCG game.

I think a reason Nintendo is avoiding this is because Nintendo might be thinking that people will buy this game, instead of more cards. Probably a reason they didn't release TCG2 here.

On top of that, it'll be too much work to put all the cards in, and make the game function correctly with all the problems with card interaction there days and erratas. Especially with a TCG that moves so quickly.
