Pokemon Tournament Rules updated for STP series

A revised version of the Tourmnament Rules is now available (http://assets.pokemon.com/assets/cms/pdf/op/tournaments/2011/Pokemon_Tournament_Rules_EN-1-31-11.pdf) and will be in effect for the State/Territory/Provincial Series and beyond.

Section 22.3 has been updated to change the requirement for Game 2 of SEF:

GAME 2
If the last turn ends during game 2 and if either player has less than 50% of his or her
initial Prize cards remaining (2 in a Constructed format or 1 in a Limited format), the
player with the fewest Prize cards remaining wins the game. Otherwise, the game does
not count toward determining the winner of the match. The winner of game 1 wins the
match.

This change is consistent with the pre-Cities version.

Was this the only change made to the rules?

Thank you guys so much :) I really am glad this got switched back before the bigger events.

Just another step in the right direction. ( The 30+3 was a huge improvement too. )

4, though that's not quite accurate.

You need to have 2 prizes remaining (in Constructed) or 1 prize remaining (in Limited) in order for the game to count. I believe that DPL's attack would increase the number of prizes you need to take for a game to count as "significant", or something like that.

INITIAL prizes.
This wording makes me 99% certain the change was for DPL... which saw little play. Guessing that P!P had a V8 moment and changed the wording a little to make it consistent with DPL AND meet player wants.

APPLAUSE! I think this is a good sign that they are listening to the players still... when I had lost hope!

Yoyo, this was confirmed. The game is only counted if one player has 2 prizes remaining or fewer.

In other words, this just pretty much killed the Dialga G counter to Lost Gar.

Not if the Dialga G player won Game 1. I actually cant see how the Gengar player wins in best of 2 out of 3 when Dialga G wins Game 1 going into the +3 turns. Please explain your logic cuz I dont get it.

same here,i doubt Dialga G will lose to gengar player. So the game now for BO3 is either player wins game 1,please stall as much time as possible in game 2 to get the free win.

i dont think thats a prblem. it was the same at worlds last year. if u think your opponent is playing too slow in g2 to try to run out the clock, then call a judge. i think this rule change is great.

What you all tend to forget, when talking about D-chomp not able to stall Lostgar out is This:

If both players have the same number of Prize cards remaining, the game continues
until one player has fewer Prize cards remaining than the other. The player with the
fewest Prize cards left is considered the winner of game 2.

So actually; if you can't draw 4 prizes before time runs out in game 2, it's better to draw the same number of prizes as your opponent, than it is to rush through the game, trying to draw as many as possible.

yes its true, lets say u are the Dialga G player and won game1.In game 2 u decided to stall,as long as ur opponent doesnt get 4 prizes u won the game for FREE.

If somehow the situation favours him,u can rush the game and make the prizes even when the time runs out.Assuming each prizes take 5 mins to get, it will take 40 mins for both players to get 4 prizes each.Thats way more than enough time to stall.

Guys, stalling is illegal and will get you at best a match loss and at worst a DQ. You are only allowed to "run down the clock," if you are using legitimate game moves at a reasonable pace, and with the changes to pokemon having a cumulative game state you need to be careful how much time you take to think.

You can just play your turn, but not attack. Is that illegal ?
Of course it is, Your strategy involves not taking a prize that turn there is nothing wrong with that. You just can't play slow on purpose so your opponent doesn't have enough time to win.

^ I am, ofcourse not stalling, but since Gengar won game 1, and now I dont have enough time to draw 4 prizes, with my dialga deck, I am not just deafening him till the bitter end, and he aint taking any prizes, so when time is called, we're even at prizes (6-6) then i go up, and draw a single prize, i win game 2, and then i take a quick game 3 for the win ? :S

If you've ever tested that matchup you know that is a wrong, given enough turns gengar will break your deafen lock. If you intend on making a "deafen pass" strategy exactly how long do you think your turns are going to be?
