Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Printed cards illegal?

I'm having trouble finding the right cards for my deck so I don't want to spend like 10 bucks just for one card. Is it okay if I print out cards like let's say from pokebeach or off the card dex? I don't want to play illegal cards at the Battle Roads I'm attending.

Not for an official tournament, you can't
Even if you use images printed from the PokeGym Researching Tower

This just kills my week. I have over 15 cards in my deck that are printed. Good thing I asked before Battle Roads.

How many proxies are you allowed in each deck?

I gotta admit.... I lol'ed when I read that.

No proxies allowed... get the cards or build a new deck.

Proxies are a no go. Somehow, I have a feeling you're looking for claydols as one of your cards. If proxies were allowed.....do you realize how few people would buy cards?

I've never run into this problem before so I'm completely new to any rules that apply.

I have no idea where you play.

If people were allowed to proxy cards why would anybody bother buying them in the first place? Believe it or not Pokemon is a business and without people buying cards there would be no money made.

I meant like one card coulda been proxied or something. I don't know, but you people didn't have act like gengars to me and be like "omg you stupid, you can't play proxies at tournaments". I thought this was a place where you could ask questions for help. Not get ridiculed for not knowing the rules.

Claydol is one of the cards I'm looking for.

proxies are really only good for testing decks, to make sure you want to play certain cards before you buy them. I personally don't even like playing at league with them though.

I think if you look back you will see that the vast majority of the responses that you have gotten have been either neutral or helpful.
There are only one or two "poking fun", and even those very lightly.
People are very willing to help and are helping.

We aren't ridiculing you, heck, we won't do that. Believe me, I've seen many others who really does not know the rules.

However, to dedicate yourself into the game requires you to spend money to buy booster packs and cards - it'll be nice if you can get for free.

Short to say: YES, proxies are not legal in any tournaments - they are only good for friendly games. If you're looking for some cards to build a deck with, may I suggest you look it up at our Trading Post if you have cards for trade or Auction or Buyers House if you have the money to spend?

PEOPLE .. remember that YOUNG KIDS and people who have never played in organized tournaments POST HERE TOO!!!

So, just answer the question in the spirit of EDUCATING.
Avoid the "what? you don't KNOW??" approach guys. It really kills the SOTG environment.

League Play (and non-competitive games)

The confusion is that Proxies are allowed at league play because you're TESTING deck IDEAS. So, nobody really cares WHAT your cards look like.

Organized Tournaments:

In an organized tournament, you HAVE to have ONLY REAL CARDS because it's, pretty much, MY cards vs. YOUR cards. It's what I could find in my collection vs. what you can find in yours. It goes back to the ol' "my card collection is better than yours" mentality.

Retail Sale of Cards

Pokemon is a BUSINESS. The game drives the card sales. Pokemon wants to make money.

If you NEED to catch a card, you need to buy more packs to find it. That's more money for them.
If they REQUIRE you to have the REAL cards, then you need to buy MORE packs to catch that card.

Now, the commercial implication is that THE MORE YOU WANNA PLAY, the MORE CARDS YOU'LL NEED TO BUY. So, there's the REAL reason why proxies are not allowed. We buy cards. Nintendo can afford to offer organized play events. We buy. We play :)

TRADING

The good news is that you can TRADE to get the cards you need. It is a trading card game and Nintendo encourages trading. So, you can save alot of money swapping out cards w/ others (visit the TRADING POST section of this site).

I've spend an INSANE amount of money acquiring complete sets of all the diamond and pearl collections.
I have SO MANY cards. And, still, not enough of what I use (like.. Claydols!!). I, definately, feel your pain.
Only recently have I discovered the miracle that is the Trading Post!

So, look there for your solution. :)

Hope that helps.

You can use proxies to have a translation if your card is printed in another language then English. So people still know what your card does.

^ Bear in mind you must actually have the card in a foreign language and have it in your deck to use a printed resource. (Which also means using opaque card sleeves)

And, the proxies/Card dex is outside of the deck as a reference only.

It is very hard to be new at something without getting the "NOOB" title. One day you will look back at this thread and laugh. If you have anymore little questions feel free to PM me there are some jerks out there. Remember an acronym is just letters until someone tells you what it means, it's alright.
