Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Professor Cup 09 info up!

Good draft variation. I like it :)

I guess this makes me a bit bitter about Pokemon though. For as fantastic of a game as it is, the structure of the rules make it a very bad game for any form of limited. When playing Magic, or The Spoils, or VS, I absolutely loved playing Limited. For Pokemon, due to having to match evolutions, and a few other factors, Limited is not a very good option.

This doesn't stop me from going to play in the Pre-Releases, and draft in the side events, I just wish there was a way to make limited better. And don't say Mutant Draft, as I have SO many issues with that "format". I do like how the professor cup is limited alot of times, but I just wish Pokemon limited was...better. But with the way the game is designed, theres not much to be done about. Still, good choice on the Solomon draft. I don't see myself reaching the points needed to play really, but it'd be fun if I did play.

I think that drafting before each game would be much more fair, although I understand thats giving out significantly more product and taking up significantly more time. Its the same reason that people play people of the same pod in drafts. If 2 people open lame packs, and 2 others open much stronger ones, it favors the better packs. Keeping an equal, shared card pool yields balance. Plus, part of the strategy stems from knowing what your opponent is taking and counter drafting and picking appropriate types. Same as with Rochester. By keeping the same deck every round, you take away all of that skill after the first game sadly.

@Mike L: How many cards are in PL2???

Hopefully Lawman & I won't be sitting at the last table by round 7 AGAIN and have Pete come tell us we stink, so drop and help out, lol.

Can you smellllllllll what the Cook Man is cooking? It's called Victory, it comes in a can and I just opened it.

Okay, it's corny but I'm sticking with it.

Cookie: "We" never stink.....our decks did (on that day)!! I'll meet you at table 1 my friend!

Let's draft only SP pokemon! Nothing but basics that can work in combo with each other. Throw in VS Pokemon, Shinies, and we might just have a decent pool.

Yes! More points needed to enter = GOOD IMO.

It's terribly ironic, though. I'll have judged 8 tournaments by May, while some of you guys won't have enough points.

Neat format, going to be hard to replicate, though.

ingenuous really bringing this back.
Sounds overly confusing though xO

Bullados ~ you're smart enough to not use notes xD

Agreed.
Maybe Mike and Dave can lobby for a Legendary Collection type set, that was designed for limited play!
A great way to get some older cards back into the format.

For this event, you will draft once before Swiss and once before SEF.

I suspect that folks will have to study "Game Theory", "Prisoner's Dilema", and Nash Equilibrium for this. The implications of this might be leads to a specific strategy during the Swiss draft, which would be different than in Single Elimination.

Watch out

For the 1st year ever the Anderson Family will be attending Nationals. So you are warned my wife is extreamly tough opponenet in theese kinds of formats. I know she will have a ton of fun playing in this event. Sarah and I will be rooting her on!!!

I'm gonna make sure I use a mixed strategy rather than a pure strategy XD

Awwww, why do you have to spoil my fun? This is my first year to ever play in the Professor Cup...Yet I'm going to lose in the finals to Lopunny?

JandPDS has my number - I'm doomed!

Wow SLOW DECK, I was thinking the exact same thing when I first heard about this format...Looks like you, MK, myself, and any other past students of game theory will have a huge edge over the competition if we apply our knowledge well.

I can't wait for this tournament...It's gonna be so much fun.

Ahhhh, good. I was wondering if we were going to play until we just went straight into nats.......
Great idea Mike! It was you that gave me the original idea and we've done it @ league a few times, playing 2 rounds for 3 weeks. But we redrafted every game, it does take some time. Everyone loved it, I'm thinking about doing it again soon.
Tina, it's really not. If I can get 20 kids to do it, I'm sure professors will have no problem.
And Chris and Mike, I somewhat agree, But if we are using Platium, I don't think this will be as much as a problem. The set was made for drafting.

the Solomon draft format sounds kinda fun, it's something I'd love to be involved in at the next prerelease I get to attend

Dang, this sucks.
I don't think there's any possible way for me to get 75 pts. in 5 days. lol

Wish my bday were earlier, this sound like this would be such a fun event.

Tsk. 75 points is quite a bit. Looks like I won't be participating this year. Maybe I'll give next year a go and try harder to judge things.

That's the point. Too many want to play, too few want to contribute............
You guys think we TO because we love the game? You're right!

I'd love to contribute. I'd just rather not contribute in a 2 hour drive each way every week. Hopefully the local league will be a bit better in the next season.

Writing reviews of cards for the op website on PRs is a way to get a few extra points.

Can you either explain how this works here or send me a PM about this? I should have enough points to qualify for this, but being able to pick up 5 points without judging an event would make that a lock.
