Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

PS3 vs. Xbox 360

The newer 360's can't even red ring- literally. They took out that feature on the slims. The PS3's online being free doesn't matter, really if the experience is terrible. Whenever you download those console/online updates they take forever(5-10 minutes if you haven't played in a while) eve on a fast connection. Every update on the 360 takes like 5-10 seconds in comparison. Not to mention that the 360's voice chat sounds so much better and clearer than the 360's AND has cross game chat. PS3's online is so lacking they actually offer a premium online service for a charge.

Also the subscription prices are very reasonable. I haven't paid more than $30 for a year subscription in about 2 or 3 years. The deals and promotions are going on all the time ,too. When you turn on your 360 you are often offered $1 to upgrade to Gold membership for a month. You get free 48 hour trials in most online games too.

Essentially the 360 has such a better online interface to the extent that the price of it is a moot point.

The Red Ring should really be called and over heating problem. They said they fixed it but I still see 'cooked' 360 slims. I think, and other games say that charging for online game play is a really bad idea. 60 bucks is a lot of money. Thats the cost of a game just to play online.

Its true that the 360 has really good online game play but the PS3's online is far from bad. I have a PS3 and sure the online is not the best but its still pretty good.

I'll go into the pros and cons of each from user experience.

PS3 PROS

- Games looks good
- Blue Ray/DVD player
- Updates into a 3D Blue Ray player
- Free online game play
- Your choice of HDD upgrade. It can use 5400 RPM SATA or 7200 RPM SATA, any brand
- Ability to run custom OS (Older models)
- Backwards compatible with PS2 games (Older Models)
- Supports just about any Bluetooth hardware and USB peripherals

PS3 CONS

- Removal of the custom OS (Newer models and updated older PS3)
- Newer PS3 models are not backwards compatible with PS2 games
- Online servers could be better
- Playstation Plus is over priced. 100 bucks a year
- Over priced
- Updates take a while

XBox 360 PROS

- Games look good
- DVD player
- Amazing online play
- Fast update
- Support with Windows Live

XBox 360 CONS

- PS3 ported 360 games use up to 4 disk
- Overheating is still and issue with older 360 models
- Released too many 360/Slim Models. Over 14 different versions
- Some models don't come with hard drives
- Must pay to play online games
- 360 add on cost WAY too much
- Your choice of wired or wireless controllers, both are pricy
- Not backwards with Xbox games
- Slim models are now backwards compatible with 360 HDD's or memory card and you have to buy a 30 buck port to transfer data
- Kinect cost as much as a Wii.

The PS3 pros outweigh that of the 360. I'm not saying the 360 is bad but he will benefit for the hardware site of the PS3.

I know people who bough PS3 just for the Blue Ray player.

It depends on what you want in a system. Personally I think the PS3 is the best one (I've been looking into them myself, I don't have either of them). It has better graphics, free online, and a more diverse genre of games. The 360's XBox Live is $60 if you buy an entire year, or $25 for three months. Additionally, many of the 360's defining games are FPS, most of which are shared with the PS3 and if not the PS3, then the computer (But you'll need a good graphics card to play the computer ones).

And the price of live is not a moot point. because there are many other factors. Obviously the deals require a credit card or some such, so if you don't have one, it's either a $60 Sub Card from GS or ask your parents. Another thing to note is how often you play online. If you want to go online occasionally, then it's not worth paying the extra to get online. If it's something you want to do often, then it's something to consider. (I can't say anything on how good either of their onlines are, so I won't go into that)

Lastly, you're a Kingdom Hearts fan, so am I. BUT, we still have at least Dream Drop Distance and Birth By Sleep Volume 2 before III comes out. So by the time that happens, we might be at a PS4. Lol. PS2 did last ten years, but hey. So just a warning not to use Kingdom Hearts as a reason.
Yeah, we might be at the PS4 by then, but we might not. I know that if I get a 360, I'm definitely locking myself out of Kingdom Hearts, and Finial Fantasy for a while before Xbox gets it. Even if the PS3 doesn't get Kingdom Hearts III, it's still my best gamble.

If I do decide to get a new system, it's probably going to be a PS3. I still haven't decided yet, though. So keep the opinions coming, please.

I'm going to respond to each of your cons, which are pretty awful and nit picky to say the least.

XBox 360 CONS

- PS3 ported 360 games use up to 4 disk
Not a lot of common examples of this. None of my 360 games are 4 disk

- Overheating is still and issue with older 360 models
yup. Microsoft stood by its product though and extended warranties. PS3 still has the yellow dot error among others.

- Released too many 360/Slim Models. Over 14 different versions
Variety is a con? Are you seriously going to say that?

- Some models don't come with hard drives
Again, some people don't need a lot of space. Don't buy this model, buy one of the other "14 versions"

- Must pay to play online games
So what. PS3 online is trash. $5 a month for good online play is worth it.

- 360 add on cost WAY too much
?? add ons? DLC costs the same on both consoles, but hard drive upgrades can be a bit pricey. I paid $55 for a 250gb hdd and am satisified though.

- Your choice of wired or wireless controllers, both are pricey
Prices are the same. Your arguments are weak.

- Not backwards with Xbox games
Most popular xbox games are compatible on all 360. Obscure titles aren't. Most ps3's do not have backwards compatibility at all unless you purchased an expensive early model.

- Slim models are now backwards compatible with 360 HDD's or memory card and you have to buy a 30 buck port to transfer data
You mean this one? http://www.amazon.com/XBOX-360-Hard-Drive-Transfer-Cable/dp/B003C3WZ0A/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

- Kinect cost as much as a Wii.
Don't buy it then. Gimmicky hardware anyway and was offered to appease motion-based gamers

You have no idea what you're talking about.

Easy solution:

vaporeon, send me your PS3.

ColdCoates90, give me your Xbox.

End result: You are both happy because I play your system of choice, and I am happy because I got two free systems. It's a win-win. Seriously.

I've already said that I think a PS3 suits you better. If you're not going to get online often, like rpgs more than shooters and want kingdom hearts, you're better off with a PS3.

Although I think the 360 is overall better you have specific wants out of a console. You probably wouldn't like a 360 as much as a result.

Oh, and I think Power Play videogames lets you try stuff out before you buy. You could see for yourself there.

Yeah, I'll probably head over there. I mean, I could see myself playing Xbox, I like shooter games as much as the next guy, I just like RPGs more. And if I had good internet, I'd probably get online and game more than I do. Paying for a subscription is kinda lame, but $5 a month sounds reasonable. I thought it was more than that.

If I decide to get a console, I'll probably go after the PS3. Even if Kingdom Hearts doesn't come out for the PS3, I still have a 3D Bluray player, on top of all other games I decide to get. I don't know, though. Guitar Center is having a sale next week and I've had my eye on a new acoustic for a while.

I'm just weighing my options. Thanks for the advice everyone.

I'd go for the Xbox 360. It has excellent graphics (especially on newer games like Halo: Reach and the newer CoDs). Plus, the FPS like that I mentioned have a massive playerbase and community.

Plus, Xbox has Netflix, which is pure awesomesauce - I don't know if PS3 has it. It also has Kinect, which is actually pretty fun.

Yeah, tbh I'd go with the acoustic - for now, at least. If Guitar Centers having a really good sale on it, I'd buy it. I'm not a guitar player (I'm a drummer and a bass guitarist, so I guess I kinda play the guitar), but if you're really into music and pretty good it at, I'd go with the guitar. Plus, you always have a PC to play stuff on.

1. The Xbox 360 slim does not have overheating problems.
2. There is only 1 type of xbox 360 slim, unless you're referring to hard drive size and bundles...
3. The xbox slim comes with a 4 gb hard drive.
4. I have had an older xbox and a new slim and both are able to play original xbox games.
5. The old xbox HDD transfer cable is relatively cheap I bought mine for under $10 I believe(on ebay).
6. Flash drives and external hard drives can be used as an alternative to the normal xbox hard drive.
7. The PS3 does have higher hardware, but the games require more than xbox games do. So essentially xbox takes less processing to do the same thing.
8. You can install xbox games to your hard drive(usually between 1-7gb each) which will essentially load the game straight from the hard drive making the xbox quieter and protect your discs better.
9. I'm not sure if this is still an issue, but PS3 netflix was and still might require a netflix disc to work. I think this has been resolved though.
10. Xbox live receives content like Call of Duty map packs a month early.

Hope this helped clear some things up:thumb:

Personally, I dislike both systems and would just build a custom pc or upgrade yours and get a bunch of rpgs on it.

That being said, in terms of rpgs, I hear the 360 has some pretty good ones, like Fable and Fable 2.

The nitty gritty

Okay, so after reading through this entire thread, I think we all can agree that it depends on what exactly you are looking to do with a gaming system to decide on which one you want.

I am in the market for a new system as well, so I appreciate all the replies and information thus far, BUT!!!

What about reliability?? I personally think this is the most important question.
Sure, technology in this age is made to break down. (This is a known fact. nobody even try to dispute this)
SO, which system has the most problems?
I have looked into this myself and have found both do have problems, but it seems the bias factor plays a huge roll on what people like to blog about...

THAT BEING SAID, LETS PUT PERSONAL PREFERENCE ASIDE AND COMPARE EACH SYSTEM ON FAULTS AND MALFUNCTIONS.

I have no gaming system what-so-ever so my word is not a good one about this.

What does everyone else think?
Anyone have problems with their systems? Warranty information? Customer Service - Punctual and Responsive??

Everyone here so far seems to have very good information and inputs on this topic so I really would like to hear from you all.
I'm sure TOXIC would too.

Sound like you have never owned an XBox360 (Also PS3) - please do not interject if you don't have experience with the subject matter.

I own and play both. I like my XBox360 more than my PS3, mostly for the multiplayer.

PS3 & Xbox360 both have great graphics.
PS3 & Xbox360 both have a lot of the game (Great) games. CoD, Assassin's creed, Fallout, etc.
PS3 & Xbox360 both have Netflix.

Xbox360 has BETTER online play (You get what you pay for)
PS3 has FREE online play (again...You get what you pay for)

XBox360 Supports Indie game developers, thus has a rich game marketplace
PS3 has Classic PS1 games and a few exclusive titles.

The bold are the main reasons to buy the console over the other one in my opinion.

EDIT: as for problems with the console, please know that my systems are older - purchased within a month of the initial release.
PS3 Phat over heats after several hours of continuous play.
XBox360 has issues reading disks - takes a couple times of open/close before the system reads the disk properly.

If you could find a PS3 that plays PS2 games get it over the xbox.
A lot of the xbox games requice network and live just to be fun.

Yeah, honestly this whole debate is gonna come down to personal preference, all you're gonna hear are fanboy rants on either side for which is better for the most part. Realistically there really is no "wrong" choice anymore, almost every game besides first party titles are released for both, so you're not really lacking for need of games. You may as well check the first party titles and see which you really are interested in playing from a gaming perspective.

honestly ps3 and xbox360 tend to have the same games and xbox has better graphics and u have too pay for xbox live go with playstation 3(the graphic diffrence is extremly small)

If you buy the xbox slim you would be getting a great system.

I personally own both and would never use either for a movie player as to me they are not made to play movies but infact for gaming. Don't get me wrong, Sony is a super company but nothing compared to microsoft. Infact I do believe that PS3's have microsoft technology in them.:thumb:

If you like RPG's I would go woth the the PS3 but don't hope for a wide selection of games compared to the xbox 360. When you do get online game play, xbox does get exclusive releases on new add-ons for the top games as well. I don't even think that ps3 has the new map packs out for black ops yet and they are pretty much old on the xbox now. Plus for the yearly fee you pay compared to free I would gladly pay the money then play the free lagfest.

I will stop rambling now and hopefully you get the system that fits your needs the most (*coughxbox)

Why wouldn't you play movies in them? The fact that they CAN play movies means that they are made to... I mean, if it saves me money from having to go out an buy a DVD player (even if it's the cheapest one you can find), why not? I'd put that money towards a game or something.

Well it does run your system pretty hard on both systems and to me that is wear on your drive. I know they can be used as one but I would rather just use my blueray player to watch movies. Games you can download onto your hardrive (xbox anyways) and your system barely ever runs hard. just my opinion as a owner of both. If you don't have a blueray player then definately use it .
