I'm going to answer both topics: Don't buy PS3, buy a 360 or a Wii. It's a lot smarter. If you're dad is so dead set on getting one, just tell him all of this stuff, and tell yourself as well. PS3 doesn't have that many redeeming qualities. Most of the good games you can get on it, you can also get for 360, the few PS3 exclusives aren't all that good, online play is really not all that good, plus the 360 has been around longer, so both the system and the games are going to be more defined.

This was our point. If you're interested in PS3 you're interested in a game system.

If PS3 is really the only one you're interested in at all, despite its shortcomings, go for it.

You should keep an open mind. PS3 has its pluses but it has a lot of problems, and its competition is beating it in almost every way.

That's what we're trying to get across here, lol.

If you're still dead set on a PS3 then buy one but make an educated informed decision rather than "360 and Wii suck, PLAYSTATION ONRY!" which is what comes across at the moment.

Substitute goods. People assume that if you want a game system and you want to know if one is worth the money that you are open to the idea of buying a different system in its place.


As it stands, FFXIII is still exclusive to the PS3. Anyone saying otherwise is simply speculating based on the rapid loss of other exlusives.

Actually Square sometime back had hinted FFXIII wont be exclusive to the PS3, but dont know if its going to be on 360 and Wii or just 360 and PS3.

If you want a Blu-Ray player, then there are cheaper alternatives, although I suppose all those free movies should cover the price difference. Blu-Ray movies are rather expensive compared to DVD, right?

Not everyone has a HDTV, as much as I want one I just dont see the huge upgrade from regular to HD let alone from HD to Blu-ray.

I believe they were talking about the FFXIII series. There's going to be several games under the FFXIII banner (FFvsXII and FF Agito XIII for example). Their statement was that the FFXIII series would not be PS3 exclusive. After all, one of the previous mentioned titles is a cell phone game.

My input: I have a PS3 and I have never regretted it. Don't buy a 360. They break down way too easily. I know lots of people who are on their 14th or 15th returns on their 360 and are sick and tired of Microsoft's "I don't care" attitude that they're considering selling the 360 and getting PS3 instead. Plus Wii's are nearly impossible to find right now, and even if you can, they're usually in those stupid over priced bundles. And 360 barely has any exclusives either. About 95% of all games on 360 are also on PS3. As has been said, PS3 is getting lots of exclusives in the coming year, notably MGS4, FFXIII, FFVersusXIII, and so forth (don't have the PS3's Exclusive list by me at the moment).

Also. On the subject of online play, PSN will be seeing a major overhaul in the coming year, so PS3 will be getting much better.

Quite simply, if you want a stable system that won't break down every 2 weeks at least, 360 is not the way to go, with a whopping 33% failure rate. PS3 has a .01% failure rate. You do the math.

14th and 15th let me tell you no one is going to keep sending xboxs in that much. after 2nd or 3rd time they will eventually sell it or buy a new one else where, quite frankly I am still on my 1st one and I got it way back more then a year ago.

Someone please close this if you are all going to keep bashing me for not liking the Xbox or Wii. I never said I was open to buying the Wii or the Xbox, so you can't assume that I was willing to buy any one of them. I was only considering the PS3 because my dad was interested in getting one.

Besides, all I'm getting from your arguments is that the PS3 has fewer games.

If you don't like the wii or the 360, and you really need a next gen console, just get your ps3. There's basically no other option for you considering what you're asking for.

Considering that a lot of players are calling the PS3 the next dreamcast, I dunno what to predict.

From what I can see, about the only thing that the PS3 is good for is as a Bluray player. It has bad exclusive games, and the games that ARE good are multiplatform with either Xbox, Wii, or both. Right now, the only official noise we know about is that FF13 and MGS4 are exclusives, though we're not exactly sure whether or not it will stay that way. MGS games have a history of being "exclusive" for a year, then turning multiplatform. Square has shown a knack for going to the system that sells. They did it with Final Fantasy a decade ago, and they did it again with Dragon Quest this year and Final Fantasy the last couple of years. I wouldn't be surprised if the main game was a PS-exclusive, possibly ported over to the PS2, but with a half dozen spin-offs for the other platforms, most notably the DS and the Wii.

Numbers from both the States and Japan are quite clear. PS3 is failing. And there is really very little that Sony can do to stop that. Chris already posted that the PS3 has never once outsold the PS2 in the States in a single month. It has also only once outsold the Wii in a single week, and that was by a relatively small margin. Unless you're in the market for a cheap-ish Bluray player that moonlights as a gaming system, don't bother with the PS3.

blu ray is stupid. it looks the same as hd and its dvds cost 30 bucks, how lame.
but it does have real internet unlike xbox, wifi, and it doesnt sound like a renagade lawn mower in your house like the xbox does either.

Don't bother with a PS3, it's junk, has no good games, gets WAY to hot to be safe, and has lousy controlers.

Just get a Wii, then you will just have to get Galixy and Brawl, and you'll be set.

Umm it does seem like for a while at least that MGS and ff13 will be for a while an exclusive for the ps3. That being said they are probably going to be must have games to many gamers, and with a surprize or 2 the ps3 can be right back where well...the xbox left off XD lolz Do i think its clear cut that the 360 is going to beat the ps3? God no lolz 360 being a year ahead of everyone and bringing out their big guns this year really hurt the ps3. But really not as much as it should have. Halo 3 wasnt as big as it should have been and extremely overrated. Now the 08 list for the 360 looks awful while the ps3 has some big games coming out. A year from now we may be saying the ps3 has better exclusives.

Dont look at the now. MGS will be for the ps3 for at least a year solo and square said already that ff13 is made around the ps2 cell processor so portin it to the 360 will cost money and take a while, and kids if ya know anything about games ya know chances are they arent going to port it. Money and its a japan made game where the xbox is doing god awful. I personally have a 360 and wii and no ps3. Can i get the ps3? Yup if i wanted too. Im going to wait till their big guns r going to come out which they are, then you say what you want about the ps3. BTW remember, if the ps3 had the dreamcast library, the ps3 will be owning. Dont compare the 2 not fair, dreamcast very underrated

Seriously. The ONLY reason 360 has a bigger and better library right now is because....THEY CAME OUT A YEAR BEFORE! And just because a system comes out first DOES NOT immediately make them the winner. And wii is not even next gen, all it is is a Game Cube with a 1 gig harddrive, motion sensing, and a controller that looks like a freaking TV remote, basically and essentially a Game Cube 2000, hence my nickname for it. Nintendo even admitted that they have no interest in the console war anymore, they don't care. They're doing their own thing.

Ask any real unbiased technical expert who has actually looked at both 360 and PS3, and they will tell you PS3 has the most powerful hardware.

And PS3 does NOT run that hot, that is an outright lie. It's fans are NOT that loud, that's also a lie. The system is so darn quiet you can barely even tell it's running, except when you hear the disc spinning around, which doesn't bother me any. I prefer it that way, cause it tells me it's working.

But I will tell you exactly what I tell everyone around here. 360 has mostly shooters and crap like that, whereas PS3's library is more diverse. Wii is more childish and just basically fun to play. If you're planning on buying one of them, choose the one with the game library that best matches your specific preferences. If you like the game libraries on all 3 systems, get all 3 if you can happen to afford them (much less find them in the case of the Wii) Why listen to others' opinions when the only person whose opinion really matters is you? The only time I listen to others' opinions personally is when I'm trying to decide on which product would last the longest and have the fewest problems.

Believe it or not this is historically how most generations have worked.

Of course, the problem with this (wonderfully narrow) statement is that the 360 is not winning right now.

Wii doesn't have a hard drive, and it isn't 1 gig. It's 512MB of flash memory.

It's a more powerful system than the Gamecube though, at least twice as strong though they're extremely tight about the detailed specifications of the processor & LSI.

Who cares how powerful it is though? It's not a pissing contest. The question is what has the best games.

PS2 was the least powerful system of last gen too.

Graphics are not the most important factor, it's where the games are, and you know what?

That's exactly where PS3 fails. Oops.

PS3 is more powerful in most aspects but interestingly enough it has one silly and rather comical handicap - memory.

PS3 and 360 both have 512MB RAM but the 360's memory is one unified pool, while the PS3's is split into 256MB system and 256MB graphics memory. Not only that but the Dashboard takes up about 30MB while the PS3's OS reserves a whopping 96 MB.

Either way though, no one cares which has the most powerful hardware.

Xbox has at least 3 that I can just rattle off (Dead Rising, GoW, Halo3, Oblivion). Wii has at least one (Galaxy). I'd like to see the full list on each system, exclusives only.

Wii has outsold the PS3 about 4 to 1 in Japan (source: Media Create), and more than 3 to 1 in the US (source: NPD). Xbox has outsold PS3 about 1.5 to 1 in the last year (source: NPD) and about 3 to 1 in LTD (source: NPD). Heck, it was outsold by the PS2 in November. That's stupid. A next-gen system being outsold by its predecessor a year after its release. Pathetic. Until the PS3 can get some good exclusives, I'm talking enough to match Xbox through the same period LTD, I'm not gonna bother with it.

Actually PS2 has pretty consistently outsold PS3 since PS3's launch.

Which actually helps prove that people aren't as bitten by brand loyalty per generation as one might expect. They go where the quality gaming experience is, as the PS2 continues to prove.
