Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Quick October Regionals Information Update

Here's an update about October regional Championships:

  • Dragon Vault is NOT legal for the TCG Championship
    • Except the cards that are reprints.
  • Video Game Championship format changes:
    • Swiss Rounds - expect 20 minutes time limit
    • Top 8 Cut - Best 2 of 3, 20 minute games

updated with confirmation that the reprints from Dragon Vault are legal for Regionals
Hurray! Just bringing this to everyone's attention.

Good decision.

You don't build your deck strategy on Fast Ticket. It's a card that takes absolutely zero skill (obviously, since you don't play it but just need to have luck to get it to your starting hand) and helps donk decks. I'd be very very happy to play Regionals without that card.

Other cards in the set aren't really important for the metagame, so as long as they permit Rayquaza everything should be fine imo.

However europe players will have Dragon Vault allowed in Regionals, because we have Regionals in November.

From time to time, players will acquire cards from a new set prior to its regular release date, usually via a Prerelease. These cards may not be used in sanctioned tournaments until the regular release date of the set, as outlined in Section 16, with one exception. Cards that are already tournament legal which have been reprinted in an unreleased set may be used as long they are easily identifiable as a reprinted card. This is typically only an issue when a reprinted card receives new art, though other factors may create a similar issue. These cards should always be played with the most recent wording of the tournament-legal version of the card.
Players who are unsure as to whether an unreleased card meets the exception above should check with the Head Judge prior to the start of the tournament.

In bold please.
It has new artwork.
Problem!

Fixed that for you. That's the important part. IF the artwork interferes with that, then there could be an issue, but if it doesn't, then no worries.

Either way, this is only for cards being played before their release date. DV will be out before regionals, so this doesn't apply in this case.

Oh thanks for not reading the part that clearly talks about different artwork. Thanks.

Another valid point is the platnium on reprints. Could you use the old hitmonchsn etc? Just curious.

Not sure what you mean, as I clearly addressed that in my post. Your quote gives an example, not a rule. Please read things before you quote them.

And yes, you could use the old hitmonchan.

Maybe it might need some more evidence.

Reprints: They are legal as long as they have the exact same thing as another card if its coming from a new set.

Ex: The Reshiram, Zekrom, and Kyurem tins near March 2012. They were meant to be released on March 30. However, since Wal-Marts are ALWAYS like this, they put the tins on their shelves before States. Since they had the exact same effects, they were allowed in States that year.

Rayquaza from this set meets the criteria of a reprinted card. However, the only difference is the art. Everything else is fair game.

Simple or not?

What does "expect" 20 minutes time limit mean? Will that be enforced or is that a recommendation that PTOs can adjust?

@Shadowcard-
When the games are registered for the battles, and the battle box is "locked"- there is a pre-set time for how long a player has to select a move, how long to pick your team, and how long the duration the battle can last before the game auto-selects a winner.

Battle time is 20 minutes to complete a match, with all consideration to selecting moves and the sort during a battle. Once you and your opponent begin the battle after selecting your team, the clock will count down the 20 minutes and you both will have a full 20 minutes to battle.

Whether the 20 minutes sticks or not, this is the standered expectation to how the games function once you are in "event registration mode".

I support the 20 minute time limit, it is less stressfull to feel rushed and make a misplay that could have resulted in a win verse a loss.

It will be 20 minutes time limit downloaded to your game card. We received confirmation from TPCi on this about a week ago.

20 minute game time limit (including animations)
90 second team preview
60 seconds to make your move
