RPS Cards

I had a player (sorry Riq) that I drove nuts when he used cards for RPS.

I watched him flip his card, and then stated the counter.

We weren't going 123, he was flipping, and looking to see what he flipped.

We did this twice, and I didn't let him draw, saying, dude, I am just picking your counter.

He said OK, and we re-did it, the same way.

He finally got frustrated and we played REAL R-P-S

Much better. The cards are a poor substitute. They should be disallowed.

- both players can use cards
- or the person not using cards does their choice then the other person flips.

btw as for RPS cards I use
rock lobster, scissor lizard, and paper tiger

Actually:

1. The card player set their choice faced down

2. The hand player throw out their choice

3. The card player flip over their card

Seems fair, I guess.

If you are doing dice:
1 and 2 means Rock
3 and 4 means Paper
5 and 6 means Scizor
The dice player have to set their choice covered with their hand and assuming it will not be touched during the other player throw their hand call.

Yeah, the cards don't work... if you don't use them right.

He puts his choice face down, then you either state your choice or use the hand motions.
THEN he flips.

Pretty easy to state the counter if he's showing his choice before you make yours.

Jason: You cannot use dice as a way of marking/making a selection, You either play RPS or use CARDS with ROCK, PAPER or SCISSORS writton on them.

just sayin'

I suppose if you had a RPS die with the words printed on it, you could use it to set your choice, as long as you don't roll it for a random result.

Or, if you owned a coin mint, you could mint 3 RPS coins and use them.

One thing that I haven't heard addressed before is that there appear to be regional differences in how RPS is played, which can cause a lot of frustration. This may sound silly, but bear with me.

I was born and raised in California. I played RPS countless times throughout my childhood, and never had any trouble with the procedure. Now that I'm living on the east coast, I'm constantly running into problems with it. See, in CA, we throw our sign at the same time we say "scissors". In the east, they apparently add this extra "shoot" step... it makes a lot of sense, but I'm just not used to it. Even with this knowledge in mind, I managed to throw my sign ridiculously early at a recent tournament, causing several people to look at me like "what are you DOING", and requiring a judge to become involved.

Long story short, I'm bringing RPS cards next time. Thank you, PUI.

What part of no die allowed for RPS is not clear in the rule??? It is too easy to manipulate the die w/ a hand over it. Simply put.....you play RPS OR you use RPS marked cards.

ROFL. They don't understand.

I'm just going to magic marker my cards, i'm stale.

I'm using three different card games' cards (solid back sleeves, of course).

Paper = Neji Hyuga (flat palm on the picture)
Rock = Goku's Touch (picture of Goku's fist)
Scissors = Makeshift Sword (from the Neopets TCG [haven't found a 'victory' sign yet])

I'll slip a piece of paper with 'ROCK' 'PAPER' & 'SCISSORS' into the respective sleeves, now that I read that POP rule here.
