Brookfield, WI Gym Challenge
Saturday, June 3rd, 2006
Eric won last week…so I was pretty determined this week to try do it. I tested Bombtar, Blastoise, Mewtric, Lunasol, Eeveelutions, the Secret Deck, and Nidoqueen. I went with Blastoise-but with a tech…1/1 Ninjask. I knew it was a longshot with the ninjask..but I knew lunasol was going to be popular after eric won..and since it consistently top cuts. Time to gambol.
Round 1 vs. Mr. Yoshi 1001 w/Mew ex/Roselia/Mewtwo d/Aerodactyl d
I just couldn’t get set up, and he flicked the blasty early. This kid couldn’t stop shaking…it was really bad. I think it was from caffeine. He could barely hold on to his deck. Anyways..legit loss =P

Round 2 vs. Bagshaw w/Misdreavus/Drowzee
I got the ninjask up fairly early, and then when he brought up the drowzee, I just lugia’d them. GG

Round 3 vs. Yusuke w/Something I never got to see
I T1’d him with Squirtle start-rare candy-Blastoise-Rain-Rain-Rain-Holon’s Electrode. GG =P

Round 4 vs. Dustin w/Blasty
I hate this mirror more than any other matchup. It’s extremely lame. Fortunately I had a huge upper hand as he couldn’t get going to save his life. GG

Round 5 vs. BigChuck01 w/DragChuck
It’s Dragtrode with a few R energies in it, nothing special. I steelix ex the first 2 dragonairs and the 3rd dratini seems prized…but I MP and send up the blastoise after the steelix went down. Bad call. He comes back and takes it

T8 vs. Pooka w/Ludicargo
I took the first one, he took the second one when I couldn’t set up, and the third game came down to me manually powering a lugia and taking it on time. Really sorry it ended like that kyle. I hope you do well next week.
T4 vs. Abe w/Mewtric
Whoop that Mewtric! Whoop that Mewtric!...its a chant. But he had horrible luck in the first game, opening with Mew ex HP. I put 60 on it with jirachi hl, then killed his benched mew with steelix. Over pretty fast. Second game, he took really long turns, and it caught up to him in the end. I was able to mudslide his only manectric with energy while it was on the bench.
T2 vs. Tom w/Lunasol
Finally…the matchup I’ve been waiting for, and at the opportune time. If I can get the Ninjask early…I just win. And that’s what happened the first game. Started with Nincada and then got the Ninjask with petm second turn. He scoops. Second game I’ve got a decent start but…NINCADA IS PRIZED…UGH. I let it go for awhile, knowing I’ve got time..but I can’t get the nincada from the prizes. I scoop after I know I’m beat. Third game…OUCH…it’s prized AGAIN. WHAT?! Where’s ASHTON? I thought….oh no…not now. But I was able to keep it together..and I got up a wartortle and a blastoise and took a couple prizes..and there it was. The second prize is the money card, the nincada. I got it on the bench, and the turn after that, evolved. There were many huge plays in this game, and it was probably the most intense game I’ve ever played. It came down to my giant stump, him discarding the solrock allowing me to qs..and getting the blastoise and energy needed to KO his solrock with 90 HP total, 10 on him already. I couldn’t believe that I had nincada prized 2 games. Great games Tom, you’re good.

-Me for just putting a lot of pressure on myself to do well at THIS =P , and sorry to anyone I’ve offended this season, sometimes it gets pretty crazy
Both Celio’s are going to worlds…I can finally take a break from this game for a bit. It’s not like I feel forced into playing all the time, but this game is so good, and I just want to play the best that I can every tourney. It’s easy to take this game too seriously…especially when such prizes are at stake. I’ve done decent all season, but this was my biggest win yet…so today was really awesome.
P.S. Rob-I was really scared was gonna lose to LUNASOL again in a finals match AGAIN…just lucky I didn’t get the Feebas start today
