In order to give each other motivation to playtest before the upcoming City Championships, two-time World Champion Jason "Ness" Klaczynski has challenged me to a Best of 111 series, meaning the first player to 56 wins will be the victor. However, since playing so many normal games in a row might become stale, the formats will alternate throughout the series. If the series were to play out completely, we would be playing 78 Modified games and 33 "Gimmick" games with alternate formats. Each day we will play out the games on the Pokémon TCG Online - seven normal games and three others. By switching formats, it will test the creativity and deck building skills of both players, and it should provide plenty of entertainment.

So, why am I posting about this? Well, we plan on streaming a lot of the games! While it won't be practical to show every game, we will try to stick to a schedule and stream nightly (around 10 PM EST). Check back here to see the results! Below we have the tentative schedule, but it is subject to change.

To name a few off the top of my head:

Commons only.

Must use 20 energy, 20 pokemon, 20 trainers

Can only use cards from all modified-legal theme decks. (R_A, i'll take that hug now please)

Neither player can cause damage via attacks (powers, abilities, etc are ok)

Deck yourself out Races.

There's plenty if you use your imagination

Fun idea, kudos to both of you for doing this for the community.

Two deck suggestions:

  1. 2-piece Legends, plus a token starter pokemon.
  2. Limited number of Trainer-Item (or zero)
How will you manage to match up with each other on PTCGO that many times in such a short period?

The 2 main Pokemon in each deck must correspond to the player's initials

Jason Klackzynski

Jumpluff
Kyurem

Kyle Sucevich

Kyogre
Samurott

Personally, I would love to see two top tier players use singleton decks against each other. That'd be very, very interesting.

I am very excited for this. I know Jason kept talking about wanting to do this in the chat, nice to see it happening!

Only evolution chains where at least one of the Pokémon in the chain has a prime National Dex number.

Wow, there's a surprising number of current meta-played Pokémon in that list!

This is a great idea! I have to ask though: Is there a way to specifically challenge who you want? I thought it was completely random for the moment, but that would be great if there was a way to rig the system. Do you guys have a plan on how to get matched up consistently or will you just hope to get lucky 111 times?

That would be singleton! :thumb:

(Except for basic energy...You kinda want to play more than one of those.)

I thought that was called Highlander? (in the end, there can be only one)

You can simply play the format we have today, but with the following ban-list:

- Reshiram
- Zekrom
- Kyurem
- Pachirisu

This should a balanced and interesting format :)
