Went to Northern California Regional Championships with this similar deck (Made Top 16). I enjoyed it so much that I have revised it to for WORLDS.

Pokemon: 20
4-3-4 Gengar (SF)
2-2 Cladyol
1 Unown G
1 Mespirit
1 Uxie
2 Crobat G

Energy: 8
8 Psychic Energy

Stadium/Trainers/Supporters: 32

3 Broken Time Space
4 Rare Candy
4 Roseanne's Research
4 Bebe's Search
4 Lookers Investigation
4 Poketurn
4 Super Scoop Up
2 Night Maintenance
2 Warp Point
1 Luxury Ball

:psychic::psychic:

Strategy:
Start with Gastly, and Pitch Dark to slow down opponents build. Hopefully get a T2 Gengar and Poltergeist or Shadow Room for any situation, and basically spam Gengars till you win. THIS DECK DOES NOT RELY ON FAINTING SPELL (But it is a handy Poke-Power to get you ahead :D ).

Mespirit serves for the soul purpose of preventing poke powers. With Super Scoop Up combo + Mespirit can be devastating for other players. It can also be used for Crobat if you are in need of an extra drop.

Any Suggestions?

Pretty solid Speedgar. Maybe an MT Azelf for SP matches?
Hm, never thought of it. That is a pretty interesting idea to get all the pixies out for Downer Material. Eh, only thing is it just would take up bench space, hell I hate having Uxie sit there like a doofus when he has been used.

The trouble with this deck is having the chance of starting with something that's NOT Gastly. I was thinking of adding 1 Pachirisu (Call for Family) so I can have filled bench, also a great SP tech.

Well, I'm guessing you'd want out 2 Gengars at any time...a Claydol...Does your bench get cluttered like this? I'm trying to think over whether Azelf is worth it. I guess it is since basically you'd only drop it if you saw they were running SP. Pachi is mainly only useful as a start. I've actually had decent success with Delibird. o_O

If you're going to run multiple techs, you'll need to play smart. VS Seeker may also help in the future. Is 4 Roseanne's too many? Just some thoughts.

sneak in 2 Crobat and power sprays :p, but in all seriousness, Azelf or Pachi will help tremendously in your SP match-ups. considering you run 4 lookers, im thinking pachi more than Azelf since you can looker's their hand, say hey, there's an Egain in there... leave it.. pachi drop for 40 (80 to palkia) and discard your energy accel.

Oh Delibird, you sly gift giver you! But in all seriousness, I think that putting pachirisu in this deck would help tremendously, more because I can actually GET OUT Gastly and Baltoy out fast. Also with the ability to hinder SP is pretty freaking sweet. Azelf on the other hand indeed would be another cool tech, but having him sit there and not being able to do much while I can Super Scoop Up Uxie and or Mespirit for total advantages in game shows that Azelf is going to be sitting there most of the game doing not that much.

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

So yeah, I will be putting in a Pachirisu and test running it shortly. What should take out for Pachi? I was thinking of taking out a Lookers Investigation, maybe even a Warp Point. Not sure though, have any suggestions?

Just put in call energies. Since your list runs so few energies, I would say 2-3.

If you do put in Pachirisu, take out a Looker's Investigation. I've found in my Gengar decks, running four is often too many.

Call Energy is a bit iffy for me, I mean they are great and all, but I don't want to be stuck with Call energies when I need psychic, and sense I don't run a lot of energies it will be crucial in game. Also if I do start with Gengar, I would rather be on the offensive and use Pitch Dark. So taking at least 1 Lookers out for a Pachi would be good? Not a Warp Point?

Keep the warp point and take out a looker for pachirisu.
I play one pachirisu and 4 call in my gengar.
Pachirisu is great against honchkrow g, crobat g and dialga g.

IMO, Call energy is a must have to avoid donking, gastly stop candy and e.gain put don't stop bts or flint and when you start with a lonely baltoy or a lonely, having a call in hand can save your life.

I think I will definitely put in a Pachirisu for Lookers Investigation. Still iffy on the whole Call Energy, tt can be life saving but the opponent will get the opportunity to set up faster rather than me halting the their set up process.

I've played Speedgar for Regionals and Nats, and can say that call energy is a worthwhile investment. I'm not sure I can recall a time where I was stuck with just call when all I needed was psychic. As long as you make sure you're not wasting your psychics unnecessarily you'll be fine.

How did it Ol' Speedgar work for you at Nats? Hm, I will attempt Call Energy. Maybe put two in. I just don't know what to replace?

It did alright. I went 5-3, while getting Sableye donked for one of my losses. Either way, I beat my three "mirrors" against mother gengar, which I very much enjoyed. The only other times I ran into problems is when my opponents played me very well (no trainers in hand/fast unown gs on pokemon/few poke powers).

My list was yours except:

-4 Scoop Up
-1 Psychic
-1 Mespirit

+4 Call
+1 Uxie
+1 Unown G

Nats definitely proved to me that Gengar, on its own, can be played around sometimes. However, if your opponent doesn't know how to beat it or doesn't get set up fast enough Gengar is a beast to be reckoned with. Maybe you'll have better luck/play it better than I did though! Either way, best of luck at worlds.
