Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Sorry to have a rant, but this is not acceptable...

ROFL we all know of the travelling players going anywhere the competition is perceived to be less for a win - Paris and French Nationals anyone??

The thing that both Mr Stone and Mr Hargreaves have wrong is that my statement was not aimed at any one regional competition - I am not saying that competition in the NE is any worse or better than anywhere else - I am just saying that at the London Regional the players know they have played the best in the UK - Just like at Nationals -

It is not just the local player base and travelling sharks..

But hey as I said this is in danger of flaming when we get right down to it - player attitude is something we all have problems with..

Ok, as someone whos ACTUALLY played in London and Hull, and the winner of the Northeast Regional, i feel i shud say something.

i totally concur with Acegaming's thoughts on this. region bashing is totally unacceptable.

But this isnt just a region thing. this is an attitude thing. inexperienced players, players who dont have the "best" decks or players who dare to be different (god forbid...) get classed as poor players, and have fun poked at them! and because leagues such as Yorkshire and Manchester are "young" leagues perhaps without all the years of experience and cards that the London area has, they get the mickey taken out of them? where are we? the playground?

ive been to Hull and played, as part of a quest to attend all English regionals (which i did! woooo!) NOT to "collect the prizes" and i was exceedingly pleased to win. and i still am, and im damn proud of my trophy. and its just a big an insult to call Hull a "nowhere" tournament to me as it is to the Hull players!

may i just say, that in these two "yokel" tournaments, there was not a single heated dispute. not one that i saw anyway and i was there right to the end of both. try to say that about a tournament in the South!!!!! MAYBE, JUST MAYBE, us southerners are SO GOOD, and SO EXPERIENCED and SO INTO THE GAME that we actually forgot that pokemon is a card game. thats right, a GAME. maybe, just MAYBE, they're still playing for fun.

well i say- good on them!

Andy, you've hit the nail on the head exactly here. The people up in the north are mainly just into the game because they find it fun. Competition and prizes are not the first thing that dominates these events (although I won't deny they are not well recieved:wink: ), its the social side of it too. This isn't to suggest that all Southern players are the opposite of this. On the contrary, there are some really nice people in the south that I would more than love to meet again sometime, e.g. Andy Stone, Justin Kempley, Emma Bruce and Ian Elliot - you guys were fab!

Yes, you are also right in saying that the Northern Pokémon Events are still in their early stages. What you have to take into consideration is though, that places such as London have a much denser population so their job is made easier in that respect, plus you have a few more years experience under your belt. However, as Andy has seen when he visited, it is certainly not to say Hull and Manchester events are inferior to anybody elses, whether that is by player numbers or by player skill.

Also, this statement of "At the London Regional the players know they have played the best in the UK" is a bit ignorant at best. Without sounding petty there were many players other than that at the London Regionals that showed real promise at the Nationals this year, e.g. Nick Lote from Manchester who came 4th. For a first time player this isn't half bad. There were many others as well, and I think this just goes to show people are wrong to take this attitude.

Speaking on a strictly professional level Mr Ward, I would think it would be up to TO's with more experience like yourself to ensure a wider Pokemon player base nationally, rather than thinking Pokemon events centralised around the South should president over everyone elses. That after all is what Nintendo UK are aiming for. These negative comments from a TO about other players and people's events, however minor, is certainly not helping to promote the game in the slightest and is extremely unprofessional. And frankly, the way you see other Regional events as competition for yourself also strikes myself and others as odd.

Ur actually having a laugh the London 15+ numbers in contrast to the Manchester, werent a huge difference, lol (IN THE 15+) NOT ANY OTHER AGE GROUP............ Probably more than Bournemouth...............the only reason i didnt make the Top 4 there and came 5th was 1 u only did 4 rounds usually its 5....................I did the same record as i did in the swiss at that point......... in Manchester.....,And to be honest Bournemouth was easy, apart from losing round 1 to Dom Jordan (who won it).

I spoke to the guy who ran the events in Hull, hes a really good player its a shame he doesnt get to play as much as he is more involved with the running. Ben, keep up the good work up......the game needs fresh blood and the Uk is bigger than just the South!

As for Manchester i was quite shocked, as everyone else thought it would be a walk over, totally the opposite..........Theres no difference to playing a tounament in Rainham or in Manchester, theres still the passion, Roddish knows the game just as much as any other TO.............

Firstly I would just like to say how flattered I am - your very kind to say that . Second, as mentioned before - your completely right on this - the UK is indeed more than the south and its a real shame some people don't see it this way. Events outside of London and the surrounding areas certainly should not be seen as 'easy competition', as players - as quite rightly said - are very passionate about the game. All TO's up here have also worked extemely hard to get these events running; and without their sheer determination to succeed this could not have happened.

As mentioned before, this is certainly not an attempt to start a flame war. I don't see any such flaming myself, only honest and critical (for the most part) opinions from people - which I was under the impression this forum was about...

And for future reference its Mr Hargrave. Cheers.

Dude, no offence or anything, but you seem to be a bit excessively hung up over this =/

IMO this kind of thing is just light-heartedness, and no offence is intended

Ace_gaming: You are making an assumption about how much effort Ben Ward has put in to ensure the survival of this game. Not just locally but all over the country. In fact the assumption and accusation you are making is exactly the kind of thing that you are complaining about. Ben is right to be proud of the London tournament, you can be justly proud of Hull as can Rod and others in Manchester.

The best time to fix trash talking is during the tournament. Afterwards you can rant but that is about all. And as we are seeing here ranting is helping noone.

If you are unhappy with any post on this board then report it to the mods.

Fine, I've said all I have to - I'm just leaving it at that.
And in no shape or form am I making fun of Ben Ward's tournmanets and progress at all, in fact I give my congrats to him to have done as well as he has. Hopefully I can do the same up here in time  . I personally wouldn't have liked to mention this on here, but as I wasn't made aware of proceedings with our players at the time - I feel this was the next best thing. After all, prevention for next time is better than the cure.

People would only start a flame war because they can't handle the truth (about how they think Hull players are crap (I'm from Hull and I did extremely well for my first time at Nationals) when they haven't even met the people personally.

You are over reacting over some stereotyping. sheesh

I agree and think we've established that point. I think 'Ace gaming' has got what he intended from the thread. I NOW agree that Hull exists :D

Look people, what is the point in argueing really? The point is that this has happened, and something needs to be done about it. I've been to tournaments up north, and i have never seen any kind of fights or arguements, everyone seems to be friends, heck apparently i'm even one of the kids role models. The SOTG is great up north and if you want to play a FUN game with friends, then i suggest goin to one of the tournaments up north, where it doesnt matter if you win or lose, people will like you just the same.

When i went down to Nats i expected it to be the same sort of friendly atmosphere, but it wasn't. There were people the who cared more about winning than the SOTG, and thats just not fun. Remember people that this is only a card game, now im not going to quote everyone thats badmouthed us on this forum, cause if you've done it you know you have, and theres no point in telling you what you've said again. But i myself heard somone bad mouth the Hull region at Nats, their words were "We should go to the Hessle tournaments, and win all there prizes". Now come on if thats not slander then i dont know what is.

This is just a game that people play for fun, and when people do things like this, they spoil the fun for everyone else. I'll admit, a small few of the Northern players (Me being one of them) didnt play as well as normal at this tournament. But the were others from the north that played really well, like Nick Lote, and many others. But noone got on the bus really happy, everyone had some reason, why they were angry or upset, the majority of the reasons for this were comments they had recieved from other people. If people are going to play then they should play for fun, not just because they want to beat other people.

I acknowledge that not everyone could win, but in hindsight still had a great time playing at the Nats, I feel that as a player I have improved greatly. What spoiled it for me was the degrading comments made about us that dropped our self esteem to nothing.

I still believe that Hull loses to Gardy.

I also don't remember anyone from Hull speaking to me, so I'm not surprised that they didn't enjoy Nats.

Excuse me and what makes you think that if we had talked to you, we would have enjoyed it? With that sort of big headedness im pretty glad that i didn't speak to you at the nats, like i said apart from the comment i did enjoy it.. but its big headed people that spoilt it for everyone

Thanks for your time..

I don't see why you brought this thread back up when it seemed all had been said.

Still, ILLUSION DID IT!!!1

Ahh Sami

Another worthy candidate..
Another "charming" person i never had the pleasure of meeting at nats, im sure thats why i was still happy when i left. It made the experience feel all the better

Thanks again

It would have been a real experience meeting you 'ILLUSION' and i dont understand why you attempt to imply I would have made you feel bad, WHEN all i asked was why you brought this back up. If theres something you feel that should be said, then say it. Frankly, i've had enough of all this bs, especially as im positive i said nothing about how bad hull players were during the course of the day; its like you think i care who comes from where. I didn't care at nationals, and i don't care now. Its great that you feel your players are excelling, but it doesn't meen anything to me. I play in london, i help london players improve and many others, im sure many of the gyms members vouch for it. So 'ILLUSION' lets see if you re-appear and say something with actual credibility, as frankly I think the SOTG showed from some of 'Your Players' was absoloutely ridiculous. When i say 'your players' i mean anyone that i don't know, so good luck with that.

Thanks again,

Sami

Okay so your saying that you know some of our players didnt have SOTG, and you dont even know who they are, real smart Sami, you have just proven why i would have left angrily at nats if id have met you, your ego is bigger than the hall we were in, and people like that tend to annoy me :)

Still, ILLUSION DID IT!!!1

*WILL FREDDY TAKE IT*?!!

And what is that really, its what youll see in a playground, children agging on a fight between two people.

I didnt post here to argue with anyone, but you have made it apparent to me that you are not happy with my opinion, all i posted was that i think our players were badley tret, and replied to the follow posts in the way i thought hey deserved to be replied to. Can i ask what implication you refer to that is said meeting you would make me feel bad?

So sami no implications this time, im saying your response was childish at best, i dont want an arguement, but i'm gonna defend myself, if you have a go at me, or my region.. which can i add i didnt even mention i was from Hull, you assume that, because im not afraid to stand up to you, that i am from Hull. I dont know wether to be flattered or disgusted

I dont want to waste any more time, so im out

Again, I said i didn't care where you were from bud, but by speaking on behalf of the Hull players in an earlier post you lead me to assume so.

No, i knew of 2 of your players who showed a complete lack of SOTG but did not mention their names, as the thing with one of them was settled, and they don't come on public boards moaning about SOTG without excepting the reprecussions on their players. You've had maybe 5 posts on the gym, you need to learn people joke around, sarcasm is common, and inside jokes spread like wildfire. I could'nt care less if you think im arrogant, I JOKE with people I know, and even with people i don't. Its only the arrogant/incredibly talented who reach higher ground, which is why i feel you were truly illusive on the higher tables.

Again, no real point to your post. If theres even a shread of evidence to the claims of the actual thread topic referring to me, then go ahead and SAY em. If you wanna add anything to the post that ACTUALLY means anything *and not just strands of spam*, then feel free.

Untill then, good day sir/madam/ILLUSION?

Sami
