Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

States and rogues

Yeah mailing yourself something doesnt prove copyright anymore. We talked about this in one of my class last week. My professor said that mailing yourself a copy of your work used to obtain you copyright, but congress changed that back in the 1970s. The only things mailing yourself something would do is prove the date you had the idea but it more then likely wouldn't hold up in court. I just don't want anyone mailing them selves thinking that they are given automatic copyrights and then get in trouble legally down the road.

You already own the copyright as soon as you complete the work. All you're trying to do is PROVE creation of the work, and that's where the registry comes in to play.

You're right PhoenixSong. I forgot about that, but that's why I'm a film major. I just remember my professor talking about in class last week and I just dont want anyone to think that mailing yourself something will hold up in court. But yeah you are right once you complete the work you then own the copyright. Copyrights and Patents are very iffy things and it seems like the laws about them change every year.
