Where does Counter stand for when talking about stages?

Counter stages are for picking stages to counter your opponents character. The rule for that is you can change your character OR pick a counter stage for your opponent. The player who wins can't change their character.

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

Please take my name off. There's no fun now.

Tournaments are not suppose to be fun. You play them to win. If you want to play for fun, then do it outside a tournament. People ban stages in tournaments to prevent "good" people from being killed by the stage itself. Those stages are not fair for players with "skill" which is why they are banned from standard and tournament play.

I'll have to agree, the stage list is pretty weird. I mean, you allow Rainbow Cruise, but not Shadow Moses Island?

Put my name on the list, but I might drop out.

Please don't even get me started.:mad: Their are two types of tournaments: Fun and Serious. If you have " Skill" you know every trick in the game, you know when the stage is going to change, etc... . I've spoken with many judges of SSBB tourneys and they say that people who don't use items and ban stages don't know how to be both flexible and they don't know how to have fun. So do you play Pokemon just to "win". The point in every game is to have fun not to win. Yes ONE point of a tournament is to win, but if make people mad and you didn't have fun what was the point.

People can fight in a tournament with items and bad stages. I can fight doing both. Its just people rather not kick when a bomb is coming in and die a 50 damage. There are some items that are way too broken. People don't play with Pokeball because of the randomness they have, people don't use Smash Orbs because they are one sided (noobs can beat pros) and people would pick characters with the OHKO final smashes, Ray Gun can get a cheap KO. People just don't allow items. Pokemon is a one sided game where the fastest and the strongest win, but I play that for fun but, I still have standards for the game. Bombs because they kill at low damage.

Today I had a cute chick over at my house who played brawl for the 3rd time of her life. Game 1 we played at Big Blue and I had 1 stock left and mind you we had items turned on. I was Diddy of course and she was Zelda. The next game we played at Final Destination with no items, and I litterally 4 stocked her with 82% on me.

So banned stages show zero skill and the only way to prove your true skill to everyone is to play neutral stages and play without any items.

And any good smash player will agree with that.

Ill join in, but I won't be able to do my match untill next week after nationals.

FC: 1848-1420-6743

Name: MP3

shadow moses deserves to get banned If i join i promise ill spam chain grab and none of you want that =D

and ultimatedra please mind your own business

i go to weekly tournaments every friday.

and our rules are usually simple.

3 stock
7 mins
random 1st stage
2nd loser picks
if 3rd game comes up loser picks from 2nd game
if theres a sudden death durring any match the player with the most stock wins.. or if both players have equal stock durring Sudden death then the game is reset.. set to one stock and put on that same stage with the same ammount of time.

neutrals are:
Battlefield-
Final Destination
Yoshi's Island SSBB
Lylat Cruise
Smashville
Delfino Plaza
Pokemon Stadium (SSBM)

counter picks are
Jungle Japes
Luigi's Mansion
The Pirate Ship
Norfair
Frigate Orpheon
Battleship Halberd
Brinstar
Corneria
Rainbow Cruise
picto chat

Banned
Shadow Moses Island
Temple
Mushroom Kingdom
Mario Circuit
Rumble Falls
75m
Mario Bros.
Flat Zone 2
Hanenbow
Green Hill Zone
Yoshi's Island(SSBM)
Onett
The Summit
Spear Pillar
Port Town Aero Dive
WarioWare
Distant Planet
New Pork City
pokemon stadium 2

otherwise similar rules..

and obviously no items..

items doesnt take skill at all..

example

billy and jimmy are playing with items
billy has been playing for about 3 years and is a pro at melee
jimmy just started playing brawl 2 weeks ago

they both have 1 stock

jimmy picks up a bomb and throws it at billy which ko's billys character.

thats pretty luckey that now alot of the new players can compete with the pros because this game isnt balanced.

Then turn off every 1-HKO items:
Smash Ball
Any form/kind of bombs and exploding devices
Home-Run Bat
Hammers
PokeBalls

The only broken thing about items are Popo&Nana with their Item combo's.

A question: Why in the world is Moses Island banned? What happens on that stage besides breaking the wall, which is fully player-controlled?

King DeDeDe has a infinite Chain Grab. You will go form 0 to 298+%. Since the walls do not break, its like a OHKO thing and also because you can get a kill by throwing your opponent into the edge of the stage. Thats why its banned.
