Highly competitive like the northeast? What, Maine? Or New York, with a 25 person states. The northeast is a joke.

Try looking at MA, RI, & even CT.

I meant Northwest. Sorry guys, but you can't compare the Washington players to the New England players, the NW is simply better. The entire West Coast is extremely good, second only to the Midwest in terms of skill :D

And how many GC winners actually win Worlds?

How is that relevant? They should be able to play at Worlds when winners of small Gym Challenges can. In fact, Regionals and States (and of course US Nationals) should be the US qualifiers for Worlds IMO. Those are huge tournaments where truly good players are selected.

Don't forget that all these wonder packages only apply to the US too, so outside the US the debate is more about will there be three trips from Nationals to Worlds rather than about scholarship monies that will not be seen.

And as for other games giving more.. They may give out more at the top flight Worlds level but we have the best support at grass roots and league level of any of the other popular games.

MtG has poor league and small tourney support
Yu-Gi-Oh! requires the TO to BUY the tournament packs
HeroClix give out two promos at tournaments and that is it one for the winner and one spot prize.

As a TO POP has a winning program as far as I am concerned and it's a shame some of our players don't realise just how good the support we get is! I just wish we could tap some of the US resources and payments for TO support - CC's this year were a drain on local TO's especially with no judge support and no headcount bounty.

But on the whole the prize packages are much much better in POP than anywhere else.

at nats if u win u also get a tv

but i dont really care about prizes.I mean as long as i get into tourneys for free then I am ok.Me and Psycho Pedestrian always play for the bragging rights that is it.We do that every prerelease.lol

And we're not even considering foreign players when it comes to comparing costs. A trip to worlds for a player from another country would CERTAINLY be more then $1000.
You can't compare that to a foreign player ;p.

I got for winning Regionals in Germany (approx. like american states):
2 Byes for the German Nationals
1 Display of Delta Species (German)
1 Groudon Bag incl. cap, winner pin, Winner trophy

That's it, so you can't take foreign OP into account =)

Whew.
I'll agree with you then.

At such a large scale tournement getting 2nd is quite a task that takes some level of skill. 2nd at Regionals this year is being hung out to dry and at least sould recive sould get some travel allowenece to Nats.

No, I don't necessarily mean your regionals or whatever. I mean whatever qualifies you for worlds. I don't know if that's nationals or what, but the actual trip to worlds for you guys probably costs quite a bit.

In real life, being 2nd place is always something to be proud of. You don't have to be #1 or always right to achieve, you just have to be right most of the time.

Then again, the Pokemon theme song does begin with, "I want to be the very best."

Exactly.

Apparently, getting second at a Gym Challenge is equal to winning a Cities, but getting first instantly makes you worthy of WORLDS.

With 1 invite per event, getting into Worlds is more about, "who gets the luckiest matchups," instead of, "who's the best player."

I dont think the trip to worlds is worth 1000 dollars nor do I believe the price of Nationals trip is 1000 dollars. Anahiem can be 100-150 airfare. Hotel is what like 150-200 a night plus they probably get a group discount at the hotel.

EDIT: This is for adults not kids. Kids yes the airfare and room will be more than 1000.

Well, then we still just have Nationals, where you get sth like this:
$500 scholarship I think
Trip
3 Displays

That's it ;p

@Moss Factor
It better be something to be proud of...because now I can brag about 5 premier tourneys I got T2 at. If we're talking about T1 that'll be 1

Well, now that we've gotten that out of the way...

Does anyone else find a problem with the fact that Regionals winners do not get a trip to Worlds, while Gym winners DO? I know I find this just rediculous. To me, this is like giving Cities winners a $300 travel allowance to Nationals, but not giving any similar award to States winners. Regionals are harder than Gyms, and Nationals is harder than Regionals. THEREFOR, Regionals should give more invites than gyms, and less than Nationals (as it was last year).

Anyone agree?

I agree with you, it makes sense.

However, I'm happy with so many events and the prize support for it that this game has. And even if I compete in one and don't win, atleast I'll meet some new people and have fun in the process.

Thing is, there's not much of that going on in the 15+ division. Sad to say, sorry if it offends someone, but from what I saw, a good number of people in the 15+ division are arrogant, rude, and..I can't find the word, but someone who will just say something without considering it or giving it a thought.

Woops, went of topic there for a bit, but yeah, the prize support is nice.

I want to point out this... For the First Two Worlds ran by PUI/POP the USA got around 60%+ of the Invites and that maybe being too easy on the %... It may have been near 75-80... If you notice this year the Worlds Invites are being Distributed More Evenly... I believe I saw A lot more Internation Invitees (W/o Travel Award) Then In Yrs Past... Which means some events will have to lose there Worlds Invite Attachments... So By Doing it this way, Your Take Invites from the USA and giving them to other Countries... The Worlds in not suppose to be a Majority of 1 Country... It is worlds hence being that everyone around the world should get a fair amount of invites... If you are complaining about that there is No Point what so ever...

The Prize Package Worth Is Debatable... But Not Really A Big Deal.... I can promise that almost everyone that played since the game started will tell you The Prizes Now are 50x Better than what we use to get...
