This game needs better prize support

You only do that in NL. Sorry.

Anyways, for winning a CC here you get packs worth $140. (packs are $8 each here)
So to those who don't buy stuff online, that is awesome prize support.

I know Belgium requires pay as well.

Anyway, asking for more price support is ridiculous, thats the whole point. Price support is fine as it is.

charging for tourny alienates the younger audiance and causes the game to be more cut throat, and the reason ygo boxes are 40 bucks? cuz the games dead and the secondary markets worse.....

In Italy we pay 5 euros (around 7 US dollard) for Cites (and for most of BRs too).

our prize support is MD packs...... yeah Majescti dawn....

Medals do not come (as in all the world)...

TOs also keeps Empoleon-bags or Darkrai-binders for themseves.....

we pay 5€ and win 7+ games for 18 MD packs and a hat!!! LOL!

Terry: You posted exactly what was needed to be said. You play the game (it is a game right??? the answer is yes...) for fun, prizes are nice bonuses (but, they do contribute for traveling plans). The people who whin probably haven't had the luxury to actually see how nice some of the prizes actually are. Free packs are nice, trophies are nice scholorships are nice, trips are nice, do I need to go on...

Lol I can get boxes of the newest yugioh sets for 40-50 try getting pokemon boxes that cheep also try making your money back on those Pokemon boxes. The only people leaving yugioh for Pokemon are scrubs who got tired of losing and decided to get pwned at another game.

How many packs are in a YGO box? (last I saw, 20) How many in a Pokemon box? (36)

The most important reason for tournaments to be held is that Pokemon USA can show that it is a vibrant game with lots of supporters. Having the tournaments free means higher participation. There may be a couple of good players staying away because of the prize support, but many more - young kids in particular - will come because of it. PUSA is simply running a good business.

The other problem with large prize support is cheating. We had rampant cheating at the prereleases (NJ) when you could win a box. This problem has effectively disappeared.

If better prize support means paying entry fees, I say no. I mean, I can afford to cough up five bucks per event for the seven or eight events I go to in a year, but it's pretty convenient not to have to pay at all.

how is an entry fee supposed to guarantee 'better' prize support to the 'larger' events when attendance is never known beforehand?

for example: my CC had 75 players, an approximate 30% jump over the previous year's event in the same location. if prize support *wasn't* standard across-the-board, how is POP to know which events to send 'more' to, weeks before the event?

Lol its far from dead and just look at the prices for CCV to see how well the secondary market is doing.

24 and you make back all of your money if not more on the price of the singles, try doing that with pokemon.

Yugioh's bad points are that they win playable promos. That is BAD. Gold Sarcophagus is the most broken card, and you only get it by winning. That is BAD.

Lol its coming out in GS2 all SJC cards are reprinted eventually I mean shrinks a common now.

MOTL, you have just been reported. Perhaps you should reread the forum rules before making nasty comments about others.

I hope that rude comment you made about me is worth the infraction your going to get. :nonono:

I believe the Yugioh packs also come with only nine cards, while the Pokemon packs have ten. So with (9)(24) vs. (10)(36), you get 216 to 360, and that is a ratio of 3:5. For the ratio of the Yugioh box price that was tossed up ($40-50) vs. about $70-80 for Pokemon boxes, you get a ratio near 1:2. Since 1:2 is less than 3:5, Yugioh boxes are still more expensive than Pokemon boxes for the amount of product they contain.

Don't forget that Yui Gi Oh is also a game based around terribly laughable mechanics that they print cards to completely destroy the basis of every 1-2 sets.

Quality of game > quantity of cards.

I'd like to see "Top 4/8/16" stamped event promo cards (like at Worlds) for Cities, States and Nationals. They would be easy to make for PUI and could be a nice additional prize for good players.

Maybe they could distribute them depending on the total attendance of that age group (similar to how top cuts work, but not with that small numbers with 4 out of 31 or something like that), to prevent those cards from getting worthless if there are only a few players in an age group.

But at all, I think prize support is better than at other games. They take no entry for states and give out about 8 display + trophies + stuff for States. At most YGO tournaments the sum of the entry fees is higher than the prizes given to the winners.

he's right, 4 packs for 5-8 is ridiculously small!

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

I find MOTL's post to be quite disrespectful to the wonderful balanced staff here and demand a perm ban of him this instant!

lol
just kidding

I do really agree that 4 packs is too small. I mean there was a time at regionals where top 8 got half a box.

2 years ago I got half a box of PK for top8 of regionals.
