Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Turn 2 Arcanine ex (Finally Deoxys-on!)

Time for Pain

<a href="http://pokegym.net/forums/showthread.php?
This article will cover one of the most rogue decks in the metagame today.

Turn 2 Arcanine ex is very consistant and can beat most decks in the metagame if played right.

Article Title: Turn 2 Arcanine
Author: Johnny Rabus
Date: April 17 2006
Format: Modified, DX-CG
Latest Set: EX: Crystal Gaurdians

First the deck itself

Pokemon: 17
4 Growlithe (LM)
4 Arcanine ex (LM)
2 Lunatone (LM)
2 Solrock (LM)
3 Mew ex (LM)
2 Holon Electrode (DS)

Trainers: 25
4 Pokemon Reversal
4 Mary's Request
3 Cursed Stone
1 Scott
2 Windstorm
4 Professor Elm's Training Method
3 Dual Ball
3 Master ball
3 Energy Removal 2

Energy: 15
11 Fire
4 React

More in depth.

Main Pokemon:

Growlithe (LM)
I use the legend maker one because it has the ability to paralyze the opponents active pokemon for one energy. Four of them are used for consistancy.

Arcanine ex (LM)
This pokemon is you main attacker. His first attack is quite nice doing 30 damage to your opponents active and 20 damage to one of their benched pokemon. His second attack is even better for three energy he does 100 damage and you only have to discard 2 fire OR 1 React. His body is also powerful it says "Whenever you attach a fire enrgy from your hand to Arcanine ex, Remove 1 damage counter and all special conditions from Arcanine ex."

Supporting Lines:

Mew ex
I think of him as support because all he does is help get the turn 2 Arcanine and he is helpful in some matchups.

Lunatone and Solrock
Their Main purpose is to shut down powers of colorless and fire pokemon. Magcargo, Porygon 2, and aipom just to name a few.

Holon Electrode (DS)
Holon Electrode is only used for energy. It is a very helpful card and can help you preserve your energy and it allows you to attack with all pokemon if necessary.

Trainers:

Pokemon Reversal
Pokemon Revrsal can help you ko something your opponent is trying to build on their bench so you won't have to worry about it later when it is all powerful.

Mary's Request
You need some form of staight draw, since you run no stage 2 pokemon it gives you a nice 3 cards.

Cursed Stone
Cursed Stone hits all of the pokemon with poke-powers. This is good because you are spreading around more damage with overrun.

Scott
Scott is used to get out yor stadiums and your supporters because you need to counter Space Center.

Windstorm
This cards helps get rid of nasty cessation crystals and mysterious shard also helps get rid of stadiums.

Professor Elm's Training Method
Professor Elm is used to get out Arcanine ex even faster or if you have the Arcanine but don't have the second energy than you can use it to find a Holon's Electrode.

Dual Ball/Master Ball
They help get you get out growlithe on turn 1 which almost ensures turn 2 Arcanine. It also helps get out Lunatone and solrock.

Energy Removal 2
When you don't have a pokemon reversal to bring up their bench you can use this to help stall.

Energy:

React
The react energy is helpful with Arcanine's second attack so you only have to discard 1 energy instead of 2

Fire
The Fire enrgy is used because your main attacker needs it to attack.

Match-Ups

VS. SMP
There is no match. You run through them so fast it's not funny. I give this match a 95/5.

VS. LudiCargo
This is a not as hard as most people think. Cursed Stone eats their deck. The problem is which tech they decide to run. You need to attack with mew because Arcanine is weak. I give this match 60/40.

VS. Liability (Any Form)
This is a very very hard match. Liability does their combo leaving no chance for you to heal. The good part is that you can set up before them. Also just go for the koffings nothing else is a problem. I give this match a 40/60.

VS. Bannete
It mostly depends who goes first. You have the upper hand though since they can't OHKO you but you can.Safegaurd though will give you fits but with no regular Arcanine you have to attack with growlithe. I give this match a 50/50

Strategy:
Get Arcanine out turn 2 w/ Lunatone and solrock on the bench. Spread damage around with the first Arcanine using Overrun. USE FALME SWIRL WHEN NECESSARY. The second Arcanine is used to kill anything that is still standing after that. Reversal anything that is a threat and kill it by any means necessary. Use Mew vs. stuff that you might have trouble with. Bottom-line, this deck is very fun to play.

I dont understand the point of Lapras, it slows the deck down, you just want to be quick.

good article, but others might differ....

Where's the ER2, Wally's Training? Yes you do need 4 Swoops! in this Lunatone may help with trainers but it doesn't help in the consistency of getting Arcanine Ex out T2.

4 Lunatone mean mostly either lunatone or growlithe start. So you search for Swoop! with Lunatone and Flame Swirl next turn with a supporter,

poliwag- Lapras helps get the turn 2 I tried it and it hasn't slowed down the deck.

cookie- Stump helps your Queen, Ludi, and LBS match-ups

Nice article Johnny!!!! Interesting edits with lunatone over jirachi and the holon's electrode.

P.S- Why did you take out ER2?

Umm, you do know that Johnny refuses to join Team Ivy right? lol but anyways great article Johnny, I think its a pretty solid list. The only thing I would change is the Lunarock to a 3-2 line.

thanks everyone.

Ludi- ER2. You don't need it. You can put it in for more disruption but you OHKO most things now anyway.

Slash- I tried a 3-2 but that gives you more of a chance to start with Solrock which is why I lowered it to one.

Overall this is a good article, and a solid list. If I may modestly suggest adding a pokemon retriever, one always help in anydeck =D
Lapars/Big Stump is a neat combo, but might not be worth the extra damage your doing with Cursed Stone.

~Good job!

Lapras can find Elm which helps get the T2, or Scott to get the Stadium lock quick without relying on using Lunatone twice. It is a great addition to the deck and one that I already use in another T2 deck with the Lunatone + Solrock build.

The only significant things I would alter would be to increase the draw and add a 2nd Solrock. I don't like the chances of it being prized with only 1, when its vital for the lock. I agree with the omittance of ER2. It is not neccesary, its more of an offensive deck than a disruption deck and the space can be better used.

Nice article

Pretty good article.

My only concern is how an article that begins with this EXACT line...
This article will cover one of the most rogue decks in the metagame today.
...Can be included in the "Archetypes" section.

Anyway, good job.:thumb:

spinach- I will change that if this goes into the archtype section.

Dom Jordan- Finally someone else sees the use of Lapras!

sdrawkcab- I did contemplate a pokemon Retreiver but after all of the changes there was no room.

Wow... That list isn't half bad..

I'm thinking you could drop a Transciever, and a Scientist, you have Lunatone to search out the Transciever anyway..

With those two spots I'd go +1 Solrock, +1 Swoop

okayy...lunatone solrock, so you cut off arcanines body...the body is one of the best parts.. you dont have to worry about special conditions and it cuts desert ruins damage in half...i would run the lunatone from HL and then run cursed stone so when you hit the bench for 20 if it has a power it' will stack damage

Hey muk man, reading the cards might help kthx. :/

I personally would take out the lapras for a solrock, becuase knowing me, the 1 solrock would be prized everytime I need it.
