That's because it IS getting the shaft.

I'm starting to think that they'll have Nats in Oklahoma or somewhere before they put it on the east coast.

Weeee... let's all go to Oklahoma to see the cows... So much fun...

One thing I really REALLY miss about nats in Ohio. No more Ceder Point. :( That was such a great place to go. Stupid St. Louis had NOTHING like that. If I'm going to have to drive 10+ hours to get somewhere, then PLEASE at the very least make sure it has some good places to visit in the surrounding area.

As someone who lives near Boston and has been to Philly, Houston, and such, I wasn't counting population. I don't care how many people have to fly. By "secondary city" I mean a city with nothing interesting going for it - no sights worth seeing. What is there to do in Dallas, for example?

All these other cities I've listed have something interesting to see: St. Louis has the Gateway Arch, D.C. the Capitol, Atlanta the world's largest aquarium which has whale sharks, and the home of Coca Cola, Detroit Belle Isle Park, SD Legoland, NY the Statue of Liberty, and so on.
Why don't you look up what things there are to do in those cities? "things to do is such a subjective thing anyway, population isn't. Dallas has a zoo and an aquarium. St. Louis has a zoo. If Nationals where in a city like Baltimore, you can take a 45 minute, $5 train ride to D.C. and see two cities for the price of one. :thumb:

St. Louis has 6 Flags. Not a bad alternative. There was also a zoo, the Cards playing that weekend, and a pretty nice downtown area to explore, if you were so inclined.

I've picked on St. Louis before, but when we lived in Raleigh we had a saying...

It's a great place to live, but you wouldn't want to visit here.

I think St. Louis probably reveals its best qualities the longer one is there. (Like most places that aren't built for instant tourist entertainment.)

Kinda how I feel about pretty much every place I've ever lived, save San Antonio (nice place to visit, wouldn't want to live there).

Six Flags sucks. :/

Go to Ceder Point some time. You can't even begin to compare the two.

Yes, the zoo was nice. I just love driving 16 hours to go see a zoo, when I can drive 30min and go to one in my own state.

As for the down town area, it had nothing on Baltimore's Inner Harbor or D.C. Sorry, but it was a second rate city at best. Almost anywhere else would have been better.

Fixed that little error there for you.

The only reason it's in St. Louis is because it's in the middle of the country. I don't really have any problem with it being in St. Louis. I don't see why anyone's complaining. It's NATIONALS, it's not going to be in your backyard just because you want it to.

I'm not saying it should be in my back yard. I'm simply saying that it should be in a place that has stuff to do.

No, I do NOT want to drive 16 hours JUST for pokemon. If I'm going to go all that way, I expect that there will be some high quality tourist stuff for me to waste my time at before I take that lovely 16 hour ride back home. >_>

Do we have any idea when Nats 2010 will be announced?

I heard a rumor that it still hasn't been decided, which I find really hard to believe considering how long it takes to plan the logistics for this kind of thing.

This is unlikely, but perhaps it has something to do with the fact that they haven't announced our invite system yet?

Either that, or they just enjoy seeing us argue back and forth about where it should be located. ;P

As my group went back to Columbus each year, we found more things. Similar, as I started going around St. Louis, I found more things, like a Max & Ermas.

I think one problem with St. Louis was that we were told things that were there, but NOT told where they were or when they were open. You really cannot expect for people to look for things on their own. You have to lead them everywhere. Anyone who has worked in retail has probably heard the phrase "take the customer to the item." Since you can't physically lead the "customers" to the locations, you have to do everything else to get them that far. That just was not done.

A lot of stuff was in St. Louis. None of knew where to find it. Or it was closed :frown:

Our public transportation sucks. Metro bus systems have difficult weekend schedules or don't run on weekends at all. To park at Metro station garages, visitors HAVE TO purchase the SmartTrip card. If you're a one-time visitor the DC area, it is really unfriendly.
Hours for museums are 10am-5:30pm and are exceptionally crowded on weekends so you have to go on a weekday to get a good experience.

Not to mention that, according to Chairman Kaga's post here, Baltimore is one of the most expensive options when it comes to accomidations for staying at the event.

The thing is though that it is an expensive place. Also it isn't fair for the people who live on the west coast. I live VA and NYC may sound like a great place, but the Subway is not a place you want to be in late at night and it is very confusing. I would be surprised if it was there. Also where was there a beach in Columbus or St. Louis?

If it's in Manhatten... then really, the crime issue is sort of moot. It's the city that never sleeps. If you're in the heart of New York, it is literally near impossible to commit a crime. It's the outskirts with the high crime rate.

I also found the rail system in St Louis FAR more confusing than any subway in NYC I've been on (I've gone at least 20 times).
The St Louis one had NO signs at most of the stops telling you where the heck you were or any electronic signs on the train saying what stop you were at. The ONLY thing that had this info at all was a pipsqueak voice over the intercom that I couldn't hear.

I'd love NYC Nationals.

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

As for the down town area, it had nothing on Baltimore's Inner Harbor or D.C. Sorry, but it was a second rate city at best. Almost anywhere else would have been better.

I felt a LOT more comfortable in St Louis than I have ever in the few times I've been to Baltimore...
Baltimore is not a place I ever want to go back to.

Some people seem to have an attraction to particular cities. Something about the atmosphere of the city. Perhaps you have a repulsion to Baltimore.

I did not find St. Louis any more or less comfortable than other places, but it might because I've only been there once.

atlanta

you know atlanta has 10 cities in a row. this year they are having close to the same amount of battle rds. regionals had a great turn out there. there are several leagues in the area too. not to mention atlanta also has 6 flags, a really nice zoo, a hard rock cafe, a aquarium, and several other great attractions. i vote for atlanta being were nationals should be this year. its also close to the middle part of the states.

I would like nats in GA far more than St. Louis. I wouldn't have many problems with this. Though, I do really wish they would have it in the NE. SE gets worlds every now and then. The NE gets nothing. :(

NY would be a very cool place to have nats.

I live in Springfield, MO so obviously I'm hoping it stays in St. Louis.

Though I will say putting US Nationals on either coast is a stupid idea. Putting it in the Midwest makes the most sense as it is still a long drive from either coast but at least you don't have to fly/drive from one side of the US to the other just to play Pokemon.
