What do you expect the Pokémon TCG to give you?

I've won a fair amount of tournaments and the packs don't really do anything for me. Like people said the Master players(at least the veterans) have every thing they need already. I would like to see more exclusive promos given to the winners of City champs, regionals, and nationals. The medals and trophies are cool but it'd be awesome to have something for my binder since I can't lug around my trophies.

I wouldn't complain about trophies. I used to play Duel Masters. I was GOOD at duel masters. I earned several trophies for duel masters. and with all the winning I was doing, i was actually getting pretty good return on investment. but when they started cutting back on prize support, they got rid of the trophies, and just gave us winners pins. these were okay, but were easier to lose. then they stopped with the tournaments alltogether.

the way I see it, getting a trophy is something special. it's a real testament to your achievement. it may not make you any money, or improve your decks any, but the way I see it, a trophy you can sit there, admire it, and think back to that day, and say to yourself "I'm good at this game." and feel that sense of satisfaction. Even now, even though Duel Masters as a game is now long dead and gone in the states, I still have those trophies, and i can look at those alcolades of my victories, and go "Yeah, I was good..." and still have those fond memories.

as some people were saying in the "State of the game" thread, it's a hobby. it's not supposed to be a money engine, or something. you're supposed to have fun, and get a thrill out of the experience. make friends, do all sorts of stuff. Getting a trophy is a testament to your progress, showing you've reached that pinnacle. your time to say 'I have arrived." a trophy shows you SUCCEEDED. Don't get me wrong, getting card packs are REALLY nice, everyone wouldn't mind making a quick buck every now and then, or getting something to try out a new deck. but getting cards to win so you can get more cards, so you can win so you can get more cards, that perpetual hoarding of cards isn't what hte goal is supposed to be. It's that moment of victory, when you can see your face in the reflection of that front plate of the winners trophy, and feeling the satisfaction of your success, that you can reflect upon for years to come. Cards you can trade away, cards will mix in with cards you just bought and you'll forget what you did to get them. a trophy will carry those memories forever.

There will always be a thousand copies of Claydol Uxie and Dialga G Level X. There will be only so many "State Champion 2009-10 trophies. You feel me?

and then, of course, there is teh casual noncompetitive player who simply is there for the thrill ride of that single win or loss, and the fight for it all with their opponent. But even they would be totally psyched to win a trophy.

What I expect the Pokemon TCG to Give Me:

A fun distraction to every day stressful life.

I agree. I think the best award I could ever get would be a personalized Eddie's Chansey LV. X. I'd like that more than a box of any set.

that' works too, something special, that you can look back on and remember for years to come. getting to make your own personal card that will be printed later in a future set would be awesome. I heard they used to do that somewhere.

Silly silly waynegg, you actually answered the question posed in the title of the thread.
That HAS to go into my sig, simply for how true (and sad) it really is. Topics on the Pokegym being answered on-topic after anything past Page 2? Preposterous.

I've won the trips, the scholarships. the tropies, the electronics... But the thing that means the most to me is the friends. Becuase of this game I've made so many great friends from all over the World I wouldn't trade that for anything.

I've made lots of friends through the TCG, and that's all that really matters.

Thats what its GIVEN you, not what you expect it TO GIVE you. Different questions.

My point is that even though this game has given me a lot of great prizes the thing that means the most to me are the friends. I think a majority of people in this thread are forgetting the things that really matter.

I EXPECT Pokemon TCG to let me play WITHOUT having unknown rules for each and every card and WITHOUT having to carry a book equal to FIVE dictionaries to make sure someone is not cheating.

I expect the Pokemon TCG to give me the same compensation as every other judge at the exact same event, although I really couldn't care less what it is. I expect to be treated as an individual, instead of just an age. I expect information about judging standards that is available to everyone, to keep rulings fair across the globe.

Good luck with that. When I stopped expecting that, I got more sleep.

That's actually the reason I quit YuGiOh *nods*

I expect the game to avoid stagnation and avoid having the player base homogenize to one or two decks just because they're archtypes. the game really is about having fun, making friends, and doing well with your own ideas, that you can enjoy using. It shouldn't be about the archetype decks that everyone has to play or you suck.

That's why I quite YuGiOh.

Luckily, the number of "good" decks this past year was so huge that people were complaining about how difficult it was to metagame. Look at some of the deck articles posted recently to understand just how huge the format is right now. And I think it'll get even bigger this year, given that there's no rotation...

You can't seriously say that you like the stupid promos they give us. We have NEVER gotten a decent card out of those. Ya... my nationals Dragonite is just soooooooo playable. :/

I do, because they are promos that are exclusive to the US. Also just because they may or may not be playable does not make them worthless. I as both a player and a collector enjoy collecting the promos as they sort of bring back memories of tourneys past. Also who cares if they are playable? If they did it would drop the value of the card like a brick of lead.

Dragonite is not exclusive to the US. We also had him at European Nationals.

But in the end your big metagame can be cut down to "uses claydol" and "takes out claydol"
Decks are way to reliant on Claydol since there is no good recovery / draw right now and so you cant do big comebacks anymore. if you're loosing against SP SP has tons of ways to avoid you ever getting back up again. Missing a bunch of Claydols early will seal your game.

A nice example is Flygon, against anything Stage2 Flygon is actually a pretty subpar card (his attacks are really nothing to write home about)but in this Metagame it can work because everyting that could destory Flygon gets beaten by SP.
Flygon is one of the few Setup Decks that can beat SP (thanks to really Anti-Sp abilitys), this is why its good.

Everything else that is setup and needs more then 1 nrg to attack is unplayable right now, SP is faster, disruptive, can attack for less, can double everyones weakness and one-shot your guys.
Flygon just lives cause ChompX is not that great of a counter sicne it needs to discard 2 nrgs. If there was some other decent colorless LvX Flygon would be toast.

I just think that SP break TOO many elemntal rules of the game to the point where you can basically forget about everything else. Of cource you can counter sp too make those decks playable. But how far does Exploud (e.g.) help you if you run a Plant deck? Its hard to sezp so in some games it might never hit the field cause SP is too disruptive and even then Luxray can drag it up and take it out. And this works for every counter, thanks to disruption nothing is certain ever and even then Luxray can counter most counters.

... sooo looking forward to Spiritomb, I just hope I didnt overhype him.
At least SP will HAVE to make adjustments to play in a Spiritomb metagame which will take away his speed, even when you dont play tomb.
