Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

What is your favorite RPG?

It's really hard to pick an absolute favorite, so I'll just list some of my all-time favorites instead. :thumb:

Final Fantasy IV
My favorite Final Fantasy game. The plot was great, the characters were well done, and it was also the first Final Fantasy game I ever played. Only thing missing from it would be MOOGLES, dangit...

Final Fantasy X
I, for one, liked Final Fantasy X a lot. I didn't mind it's plot, or it's long cutscenes. I was quite fascinated with the technology, as a matter of fact. And even aside from the graphics, I liked it's battle system. To me, it offered a great amount of strategy. You had the ability to see the flow of battle, and make your actions based on that. I don't know if I liked the Sphere Grid that much, but it sure made for some awesome challenges... (No Sphere Grid game, anyone? )

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
There are only two things I didn't like about FFTA: it's plot and that annoying law system. Other than that, it's pure bliss. AND IT HAS MOOGLES!! It's also really darn long for a GBA game, especially if you enjoy doing sidequests and getting cool items. Oh yeah, and did I mention it has Moogles in it? Btw, Ultima Charge + Concentrate on a Gunner = gg ftw.

Dragon Warrior IV
The best RPG for the NES. Period. It was long, had FIVE rather long chapters, EIGHT main playable characters that you could swap around at your leisure, and a really awesome assortment of monsters and quests to go on. It easily stands up to any of the SNES RPG games, and definitely earned it's place in my top favorite RPG games of all time.

Dragon Quest VIII
Wow. Just wow. So far, from what I've played, it's the near-perfect RPG experience for my taste. All of the characters and monsters look so lively, and I'm a huge fan of the Dragon Quest battle system! It is kind of nice that you don't need to spend hours and hours in an area just to level up. Oh, what, you do, you say? Well, ha, it's NOTHING compared to Dragon Warrior VII's atrociously slow level up rate (which I quite enjoyed, thank you very much).

Shining Force II
Shining Force II is such an amazing strategy-RPG. It's quite similar to Fire Emblem as far as battles go, but it has some other elements thrown into it, such as MP and Spells. It's just so amazing, and you really get to love all of the characters in it... I strongly recommend it. (Good luck getting a copy, though!)

baulders gate 2(gc)or gauntlet(the entire series, including the upcoming seven sorrows, see my thread for info on it:)

Hang in there RPGs. And Super Mario Brothers wasnt even on super nintendo, it was on NES.
Actually, there was an SNES version of Super Mario Bros. in the Super Mario All-Stars cartridge

Also, why the hell are we talking about Call of Duty in a thread about RPGs?

But the game cartridge, like you said, was Super Mario All-Stars, and the SMB on that was a port of SMB on NES. Semantics Semantics.

That's like...crazy. I must check this game out.
Btw, that trailer shows it in japanese...is it out in america?
It is! It's actually pretty old now. :D Still a great buy. Still sells new for $50 and used for around the same, maybe a little less.

Other titles (I know about) by Nippon Ichi:
Makai Kingdom
Phantom Brave
La Pucelle Tactics

Funny that you say d00d though.

<3 Prinnies. Prinny dood!

[EDIT]Oh yeah, forgot to mention: It's voice acted. And well done at that, imo! :D[/EDIT]

Voice acted...wow. That is definitely a bonus.

Hmm, since this seems to be a general thread discussing RPGs, mainly ones people like, I have a few questions.

1. What are some good strategy/tactics genre RPGs, other then the Fire Emblem series and Final Fantasy Tactics (Advance)?
2. What are all the 'Tales of' series games/which were the best ones?
2 and a half. A while ago, I saw a girl playing a GBA game that was in Japanese. I had no idea what you did in the game, but I saw her scrolling through sheets of character images. I didn't recognize all of them, but I definitely recognized a sheet or two of Tales of Symphonia characters. Now, I'm thinking it was some kind of compilation of the characters from the 'Tales of' series, but I have no idea what you did with them, or anything. When I asked the girl what it was, she said "Nothing, you wouldn't know what it is" or something like that...don't remember. Anyways, does anyone know what I'm talking about/know what this is?

Hmm, I've heard that's a good one...
and it's by the same people as Disgaea.

Anyways, I bought(blockbuster didn't have it, so couldn't rent it) Disgaea today(used, $45). I only have one thing to say.
Dood!
This is an excellent game. For the first time in quite a while, it gave me a reason to use my PS2 for something other then DDR. Well worth the money. I must say, I love the animation when you combo 4 prinnies together...

Anyone know anything about the Grandia series?ive seen and read the 3rd one is supposed to be
awesome and have great graphics but,i dont know much about the storyline. My favorite RPG(s)
would definatly have to be:FFVII,FFX,Dragon quest VIII, the first FMA RPG and InuYasha and the secret of the cursed mask.

If I were to do a list of my favorite RPGs it would look something like this:
1. Dragon Quest/Warrior IV (I can not say much more about this than Marriland has already stated).
2. Dragon Quest V (out of all the Dragon Quest games, this has the best storyline).
3. Dragon Quest/Warrior VII (this is the test of patience, hard work, and will-power).
4. By now you should see where this is going.

If I were to remake it in the form of series only it would look like this:
1. Dragon Quest/Warrior (the best being IV of course).
2. Lufia (with the best being II, I have not yet played the GB ones but I have heard that it does not live up to the Lufia name).
3. Earthbound (Mother 2, probably the best SNES RPG released in America).
4. Grandia (Xtreme, this may soon knock down Earthbound and Lufia)
5. Breath of Fire (II, just a wonderful overall game)

As you can see, I am an old fashioned kind of RPG player.

I have heard that the graphics are as good as any other current RPGs out there (along with 20+ cut scenes (may be an exaggeration)). If you are going to play a Grandia game (like III), start with either II or Xtreme first.

Super Mario RPG the Legend of the 7 stars
Fire Emblem Advance/Fire Emblem 7/Fire Emblem
Fire Emblem Path of Radiance/Fire Emblem 9
Fire Emblem The Sacred Stones/Fire Emblem 8

1-Lunar: The Silver Star Story
2-La Pucelle/Disgaea/Phantom Brave
3-Star Ocean series
4-Riviera
5-Wild Arms series

Whoa. Someone else mentioned Star Ocean. Star Ocean: The Second Story is definitely in my top 3 RPGs (and Ashton Anchors is most likely my favorite VG character ever).

My absolute favorite RPG of all time is FF9. Almost everything about it was perfect. The story, the characters, the music, and the graphics were outstanding for PS1. Not to mention Kuja is my favorite villain ever. The only thing I didn't like about it was the battle system. The whole Trance thing was poorly done, and the battles seemed to move very slowly compared to most other RPGs.

Took the words right out of my mouth. I loved FF9. (Often thought of as the "Lost" Final fantasy) Can't forget Kingdom Hearts, loved that game.

City of Heroes/Villains if we're counting MMORPGs.
