comic-con is cool, but its way too crowded... swimming through people just to get browse at booth is verrrryy annoying and frustrating... and dont even ask about parking... =(

i really hope it moves. all other card games have left origins (magic, vs, ygo...) the only gamers left are the "hard-core" ones - the ones that will sit at a table 3 days straight without showering and just playing dungeons and dragons, is that the kinda people we want in pokemon?
Sounds a lot like the grinder (except that I actually took the half hour out of my 4 hours of sleep for a shower :X but I'm sure many others didn't)

I'll agree to an Anime Convention only on the terms that cosplayers will not be allowed within 30 feet of the event and shot on sight if they attempt to get near.

I love watching anime but gosh darn it, 99.990% of the people who like anime just. shouldn't. cosplay. evar.

How about Space Center Huston? Not next year, but if Nationals ever starts to travel, Team Cook has done some mighty impressive things in Texas!

I suggested that Mike's numbers were Worlds worthy. Now that Worlds is smaller than a Gym Challenge, Nationals should visit Cook's Texas, or Colorado, Illinois, or Minnesota.

POP/PUI should stop anchoring the biggest reasonably (?) attainable tournament in the US, the National Championship to Columbus, OH and Origins. To fly my son Charlie and myself from San Francisco to Columbus (A non major airline spoke) and back during a holiday window for Nationals cost over $700 each on United. Add food, hotel, and a rental car, and this $2,000 free open National Championship costs another $50 for badges to Origins.

How about finding a city in the middle of the country with a major airline hub to decrease costs for all, and even out the financial burden for players from the opposite coasts.

Dallas TX, Denver CO, Chicago IL, and Minneapolis, MN all boast major hubs for major airlines, all 4 cities have convention centers, none of these cities will charge an extra $50 for a badge to play Pokemon for free because none of these cities hosts Origins interfering with what the event is about: Pokemon! Hurray!

Please do away with Origins, or in fairness, make the travel award for Nationals in Columbus, OH reflect actual costs of travel for West Coast players.

Would there be any problems with having Nationals at Gencon?

GENCON (Aug. 16-19, 2007) takes place AFTER Worlds (Aug. 10-12, 2007), so that might be an issue.

Otherwise, I'd be all for GENCON.

I would like to see Nationals either (a) stay at Origins (the convention as a whole is a blast), (b) move to Comic Con, or (c) be in a vacation destination (Orlando, San Antonio, San Diego, ... rotate through them if you must).

But MY preference is to keep it tied to a convention. Pokemon gets great exposure there and the conventions themselves are worthwhile.

With that said, may I propose Acen 2007?

Sure the fangirls may go "goo goo, gah gah" over that fancy Ed Elric (movie)/Pikachu costume you made, but hey! If there's a chance to make it to worlds, I'd say it's worth it =D

Of course, the only problem I see is that Acen is generally in mid-May, which may be a little...early...

Yeah...

Many people have said that having Nationals at origins is great promotion & a way for others to see how big it is, etc.

My question - Has this exposure to all these other people gained any Pokemon players?

My answer would be maybe a few in the Columbus area & surrounding areas.
But what about 150 miles or more away from there? What about 1000 miles away from Columbus? Has Origins helped pick up players?

IF Origins has picked up players around the Columbus area or even a couple of hundred miles away from there & it has not helped any outside of the area, then it seems it would be good to move Nationals around the country to help promote in other areas of the country.

We've picked up a few new league players because of Origins, but not many. We're located about 2 hours drive from Columbus.

One of the things that PUI/Nintendo is looking to do is let game store owners see how
strong Pokemon is so they will carry more products. Origins/GAMA is a great place
for doing just that. A stand-alone event would do nothing in that regard.

But I'm still looking for PUI to let us know where US Nationals 2007 are going to be.

I think it should stay at origins or in the general area. It really bothers the east-coast players to have to go all the way across the country for Worlds but to have to do it again for Nats? I think many east-coast players would pass.

Most I know already pass unless they win a trip/stipend to Nats. It's just that origins outside of poke is way too "boring" as I heard some up here say.

As for stores using origins as a basis for popularity.... I thought there'd be better sucess at least with Gencon for that kind of thing. If yugi/vs/magic have moved away from origins and are still full of life, i don't see why we can't either.

No matter what anyone says, if it's ever held at any anime convention, I will attend every time!

Chicago, IL

Convention capital of the world.
Plus it is centrally located.

Yea it's a little selfish to want it so close to me, but SD? I think Cali's had enough with 2 Worlds being held there, and being as close to Worlds 07 as you can get from the contiguous 48.

Personally I'd like to see it held at its own venue (no other convention stuff). No badges to waste money on. The trip and the time off of work are expensive enough.

Yup, and it matters where Worlds is because there aren't free trips........oh WAIT! And there's be SO many players that have grinded in from San Diego and Anaheim......oh WAIT! Nice, overrated and overused argument, guys!
