Hello, I am from Portugal, but I must agree with Raichu88, because Portugal didn't played well.
They commited several faults and showed an agressive atitude :(, but I also think that Netherlands didn't showed a lot fair play too, because I remember two or three times that Portuguese players, that sent the ball out to make the assistance of other players (of Netherlands and Portugal), but Netherlands players didn't refund them the ball (at least portuguese players did), and tried to attack.
And everything started when one player (I don't remember his name) hurted Cristiano Ronaldo (that fault deserved a red card).

Once again I will say that I didn't like the game, because portuguese and Netherland players are normally calm (portuguese players didn't receive a red card since Euro2004), but I think both teams have the responsability, and the judge wasn't also very well, because he wasn't in the game. He wanted to show is power, but with so many yellow cards he just did it wrong.

Edit: The result isn't very fair to Netherlands, but it is also a question of luck

wow, what games today - the Ukraine win it in PENALTY kicks!!!! and Italia via a penalty kick in stoppage time in the 2nd half - WOW!!!!!! poor AUSSIE's, I was hopeing for OT!!!

and Mexico did good...Mexico can play against the best, just too bad they didnt play like this during round 1. oh WELL, I guess I'll just have to wait until 2010 - that seems far far awayyyyyyy - LOL :biggrin:

upper part of brackets: Germany will beat Argentina - 2:1! England will beat Portugal 0:0 (penalty kicks 5:4). my predictions for the upper bracket!

Actually, Shots on target: Holland wins with 8 shots on target versus Portugal's 6. off target; Holland wins 14 (portugal had 4). Corners; Holland wins 5 versus Protugal's 3.

Which is exactly why NL lost, they weren't able to get the ball in the net. They missed all of their shots =(

Oh Kevin i guess i got my stats messed up. I am going to check on that some more. Oh by the way i have not lost any picks yet. So for today i have Brazil 3 Ghana 1, Spain 2 France 1. Those are my pics i havent missed one yet.
 
Brazil win 3-0. I didn't specifically say they'd win, which is probably the only reason they did.

Spain v France feels way too close to call. My gut tells me Spain could win it, but I'm about ready to have that thing surgically removed just so I can punch it safely.

Firstly please lets not make this a flame war and get this thread locked.

Vegeta is wrong on the stats, Holland had more shots on and off target, and had more corners.

Personally I think that game was a disgrace, and I have to settle on the line of the Dutch here. Both teams were pretty equal on the night and I feel a draw would have been a fair result - but that game was only shaped from the disgracefull refereeing on the night - and he was a bad referee for both sides - he set out with an agenda that for any strong challenge he was going to give a card - players react badly to this, remember that the last time these teams played it was for a place in the final of Euro 04 - he should have known he was going to stoke a fire and ruin the game.

However the game has been played, and the result stands, Fifa has never changed the result of a game because a ref had a bad game - he was equally bad for both side. However the game may well have panned out differently with a different (better) referee which is a sad thing to think of.

And to make it clear how my views are unbiased - it was in Englands interests to see lots of bookings and suspensions - but I would feel ashamed if England won through because of the suspensions of that match. But I think the only good player Portugal have suspended is Deco so it shouldn't be too bad - although Figo should not be playing after his headbutt.
 
france just tied it....omg!

Oh and Deco's 2nd red was the worst thing i've ever seen. I'm a soccer ref myself, and I am in total aww of the horrible job these guys have been doing. The refs should not be the difference in the game.
 
I must agree with you jkwarrior, ibeing a ref to have noticed what a crummy job these refs have done, cant fifa get any better refs then this, i mean i could ref the games better than this, also about the stats of Portugal you were right all who said that Holland more shots and stuff but, oh well i care less about the game, it is 1-1 france and Spain, i had spain winning 2-1, go Spain. Also i am so impressed with the Ghana game against Brazil, Brazil was really challenged this game, even though there score doesnt show it, in my opinion i think Ghana outplayed Brazil until like the last 15 minutets. So i guess someone is going to argue about this with me. Not saying any names RAICHU88, just kidden, go spain.
 
France 2-1 over Spain just a few minutes left. Guys, I think France is a serious contender now and will challenge Brazil.

3-1 to France and what a game. For the first time in this tournament it looked like both teams really wanted to win. About bloody time. France go on to meet Brazil. That game was a lot of fun to watch, some great football, especially from that Ribely guy whose name I keep forgetting how to spell. His footwork's tight.

I've just recieved by email a legally binding Cease-And-Desist order from FIFA telling me to stop screwing up their tournament. I reckon there's really no point in me offering my opinion on who's going to win games anymore. I'll take this curse with me to the grave. Still want Germaney to win overall, though. Wanting is different from predicting.

My thoughts on the top 8 matches.

#1 Germany vs. Argentina. I will say Argentina will win i they decide to show up. 3-1

#2 Italy vs. Ukraine. Italy should win this if Italy plays their style. 1-0 OT

#3 England Portugal. This is a push, if England decides to play they should win this. If not then Portugal can win. 2-1 England

#4 Brazil vs. France. Well based on their performances this evening, France is the better team playing. France wins if they play the same aggressive style as today and show their will to win.2-1 France

i have lost a pick for the first time today with the France and Spain game, I must admit that France looked great, looked as if they really wanted this win. Well my pics for the quarterfinals are:
Germany 2-Argentina 1
Italy 2- Ukraine 0
England and portugal is a tough pick, this will be so close but, i have England 1- Portugal 0
Brazil 3- France 0
 
Why is everyone doubting France's chances?

They have a great offense with Trezeguet, Henry and Zidane. Along with defense to stop brazil.
 
Brazil got pwned by Ghana. If it wasn't for the stupid ref taking out Ghana's top player...i forget his name...in the game against US and the amazing save by Brazil's goalie, it would be Ghana moving on. From today's performance France > Brazil for sure.
