World Cup 2006 - linksfixtures/results - everything you need to know!

You guys are giving too much credit to Brazil. I'm not saying they won't win. I'm saying they are a bunch of talented players with big egos, that aren't playing the traditional unselfish Brazilian soccer that everyone was expecting. France is obviously playing at their peak. They came back from loss in their first match to make it to the top 16, and then beat undefeated spain convincingly. Don't underestimate the French.

France tied the first 2 and then won the last game in group play.

Brazil is a talented team no doubt. The team however is everyone playing by themselves. At the end, I believe it was Cafu attacking and Ronaldinho was WIDE OPEN for an easy goal. He strikes it right at the keeper. It could have been easily 5-0 considering the chances at the end. France will defeat Brazil if both teams play the way they are right now.

Vegeta- France beat Brazil in '98 Cup Final. Did the World end? No, but George Bush was elected President.

poliwag, that was 98, this is 06, times are different, This is the best Brazilian Squad ever but, I do think it is funny that you said that President bush was elected, yeah he will be the end of us all.

France went from being World Champs in '98 to going home in the group stages in '02. They've improved a lot since that dreadful performance. Brazil, meanwhile, aren't really at their best imho this year. It's hard to call, but these are two of the game's top teams at the moment so I think it could be a hard-fought game for either side.

I think the quaters and the semi's will be amazing as unlike previous years all of these teams bar Ukraine think they can win this cup. In 2002 we nhad several quality teams going out early, which meant the quality of the teams in the quaters was pretty disapointing.

My picks for Last 8

Germany 1-1 Argentina
Italy 2-1 Ukraine
France 2-1 Brazil (Brazil haven't yet played true quality opposition)
England 1-1 Portugal (I wonder who win's on penalties...)

Heres the latest odds to win the tournament BTW

Brazil 9/4
Argentina 9/2
Germany 9/2
Italy 11/2
England 13/2
France 9/1
Portugal 14/1
Ukraine 50/1

Wow Kempley, your going to pick France over Brazil huh, well Brazil will win this one. But that was nice of you to give France a little faith.

I don't think there's ANY way that Brazil can beat France if they play the same way they have been. Brazil was playing absolutley horrid IMO, Ghana was the better team that day, even though the score didn't show it. France was phenomenal vs Spain and they're showing again why they won 8 years ago. Zidane, Henry, Vieira, Ribery..they all play as a team. They might not be the best players in the world, but they're really good and play together, unlike Brazil lately. If you noticed, the 3 goals for France kind of had a pattern. First goal was Ribery assisted by Vieira, second goal was Vieria assisted by Zidane, third goal was Zidane. Idk, I found that funny. Oh, and the 3 yellow cards for France were Zidane, Ribery, and Vieira. ;x

My picks:

Germany 1-2 Argentina (in OT)
Italy 2-0 Ukraine
France 2-1 Brazil (in OT?)
England 3-1 Portugal

Henry is one of the best in the game right now.

Also used to be that Henry had the ball and nobody helped him thats why they couldn't score. I think at the half of the Togo game they said we gotta step up the pace. They scored without Henry in the Spain game!

So far Brazil have got past tier 2 nations in Croatia, Austailia, Japan and Ghana - France were poor in the group stages but owned an inform Spain and have improved every game so far.

I was actually rooting for Ghana against Brazil because they showed me that they were for real, I really wanted to see spain win the match against France but, i am not saying that France wont give them a challenge, but i have noticed that Brazil is not themselves this year. So far Ronaldhino is horrible, he is so lazy but Brazil will go to the tough level this game. Brazil will proove that they are the best, I am also impressed at France now, They really showed a rebound this year but, it wont be enough against Brazil, it will be Brazil against Germany in the final.

England over France? Tell me these odds aren't coming from William Hill or some other British bookmakers :)

Okay, discounting Ukraine (though I do tend to go for the underdog, like you said there were more to choose from four years ago) I'd call England the worst of the top seven. Every time they win a game another chink of Eriksonn's soul slides into the devil's bank account. They can't keep flopping from victory to victory like they have been, while France have been very good. Nice to see Germany being rated on a par with Argentina, though.

*hasn't mentioned any definite predictions yet*

*just knows Ukraine's gonna win now*

I just hope they all end in GOOD penalty kicks (not like Ukraine vs Switzerland, those penalties sucked). I love penalties.

edit: sorry mods for the bad word.

Its from an international betting index thing, the reason why England are above France is that France have to play Brazil, and we have the 'easier' matchup against Portugal.

Thats why Italy are higher because they've got the game against Ukraine - But I seriously wouldn't rule them out with the likes of Rebrov - West Ham DOES IT!

penalty kicks woot, gotta love them, they are the most cardiatic moments in football (yes football not soccer).

i agree, I dont know why we call it soccer, it should be futbol, football, and fusball, i think is the other name, nope they wont change the name because of american football, which is fun to watch but, not like soccer.
