You plan on going without a trip? To Hawai? I don't know if you will, it's going to be VERY EXPENSIVE.

not really if you know someone who lives in hawaii  all i have to worry about getting is the plane ticket ...

i really dont mind worlds having the grinder cut out .. im talking about the side events for thoes who dont have invites ... prereleases, side tournaments (unlimited, booster, team, ect.)

Yes that is true but do not forget that the whole point of the Worlds is to find the worlds best PTCG players and not to start social gatherings

*blinks* no social gatherings? ... erm, without being social at the events, wouldn't events start to get .. boring? ... maybe i took that the wrong way, but every event there is always a lot of socilizing(sp?) to get to know new people ... that is one of the parts i like ... meeting other people from diffrent places ...

Thanks for stating a position on Nationals and invites Dave.

I would like to see people who support the game in non-standard ways, such as having a comprehensive searchable Pokemon TCG database on the web, get a free trip to Hawaii.

But maybe that's just me.

The Gorn: And if what you said will come true, then you gonna see 500+ Pokepedia rip-off sites.

The Nationals will stay the same. That's really good news. Now let's hope they don't mess up with the Worlds.

That'd be nice. For the Gameboy Nationals that took place a few weeks ago in New York, myself and the webmaster of PE2K were invited to go to cover the event (paid tickets, hotel, everything), but I couldn't go because it was during my vacation. Inviting involved webmasters to cover the event would be cool! :thumb: Although, I think POP does a pretty good job on their Worlds mini-site of covering the event, so we might not be needed afterall. :p

I'm not so sure Dave said that. He said...

"US Nationals will NOT be an invite only event."

I guess I still have my concerns that it is going to be Worlds-like - you get invited, and a paid trip (like Worlds today) by winning States, Gym, Regionals, etc. Or you get an invite (without paid trip) by accumulating a certain number of league points. Or you can Grind into Nationals (just like we grind into Worlds).

This scenario is not invite-only, but it isn't the same as today.

I'm holding off judgement until I hear how Nationals are REALLY going to be played out.

(As for Pokepedia knockoffs, the Pokepedia is like the Highlander - there can be only one. Unless a Chuck Norris-pedia comes along.)

Worlds in Hawaii, Nats not an invite only event, U.S. invites cut dramatically. I guess U.S. Nats is going to be THE big thing. Just guessing here, but I would hate the idea of someone getting lucky at one event and getting a trip+invite to an exclusive event like 2007 Worlds. A point system would be amazing and supported by a lot of players, unfortunately it won't happen. It's really too bad that Worlds is going to be so exclusive, we all like seeing each other at Nats and Worlds. I guess those days are over.....I'm sure going to miss FK :'(

Same here, it's pretty unlikely many friends from different countries will see each other again. That's what I liked the most about worlds.

what i dont understand is why pui is pushing nats so hard, before it was like i can save my money and go to worlds, or nats. now it's almost nats or nothing. and nationals isn't really nationals. it's really just another side event at orgins. when you get there it's not Pokemon Nationals, it Orgins with a list of side events. hmm so i have enought time to see this that and this, then play in the pokemon national championship. Just ignore all the funny dressed people walking through the gaming area, there here for something else...."mommy why is that man dressed like frodo"? "He's playing pretend honey"...If pui is going to be promoting nationals so hard, give it a national stage, its own event. the same way the do worlds, that way they can change locations every year. But i guess that would make too much sense, or too many people happy....dont start going WOTC on us pui....and please, there are over 300 pokemon, does plusle minum, pickachu have to be at every event. i mean throw me a "cubone"or something...lol, i would love to take a picture with some of the other pokemon.

Please no points system. I can see it now. League Organizers every where cooking the books so their kids will make it. So then who do I have to pay off.
Wow.

Just....wow.

Nice way to call into question the integrity of every one of us who 1) work pretty damned hard putting on events for Pokémon Organized Play and 2) have kids who participate in OP!

Think you people could possibly WAIT for all the details for next year's OP to be announced before concluding that the 'system' is rigged and that everyone who runs events will cheat their kids into the invites?

If they did make a points system it should be only for premier events, ie Cities, States, etc. Many of us don't have a league to go to or small local tournaments to rack up points so this would make it a bit more fair, but I'm still not sure if a point system is the best way to do it because even premier events, I only am able to attend 1 or 2 of each max while other people can sometimes go to 5, 6, or even 7 of the same type of event. Maybe make the points proportionate to the amount of events you attend? I dunno, it sounds kind of weird.

The best way to lay out 16 invites to me was this:
Top 4 at Nationals
12 Regionals across the country (approx 2 in the Northeast, Southeast, Northwest, Southwest, and 4 around the middle of the country) and have the top finisher in each of these be awarded a trip/invite

Idk, that sounded really fair to me.

Just putting it out there for something to think about before final decisions are made. Not to offend but to defend my position. Things like this happen . My daughter got stamps in her book towards pop packs from this lady one time just for being so cute. Indeed she will be the prettyist little girl there if she got points like that but she does not know how to play pokemon. So by that way I would not want her get points or others.

I said every where not every one. Those with integrity never worry about what I post or say.

Let me add something to that.

Top 4 of each country it's Nationals (even if only 1 of meaby 2 come with a trip)
4 Regionals across Europe (Italy, UK, Germany, Norway) with 1 trip/invite for winner.
3 Regionals across S. America (don't know the geografics)
2 Regionals in what we call the East included Australia (also don't know the geografics).

Or something like that, I really don't know the playersbase in those part of the world.
But if this is happening at least the Non usa players do have more than 1 change to make it to Worlds.
I do prefer 4 spreaded events with each 1 trip/invite i.s.o 1 Eu event with 4 trips/invites.

Wow...so taking exception to your remarks means I'm lacking in integrity?

Hawaii isn't THAT expensive as far as the plane ticket goes. You can book now for $750 - and I didn't even look around very hard.
Its expensive, yes, but only twice as much as going to Cali ... and hey, you're going to HAWAII. :-/

Well, speaking as one who's never gone to Worlds but was looking forward to going at some point--

I was, I'll admit, a bit miffed at the fact that it's in Hawaii, because, yes, it'll cost a bit to go over. However, as some other people have pointed out, it IS Hawaii, and I've never been, so I think that'd be a neat opportunity, should I be able to save up enough money to go.

One thing that is kind of a bummer, even though it is a neat chance and everything-- people who want to go as a family. For me, yeah, it won't be cheap. I don't even have a car or anything to worry about money-wise, but it'd still be 2 or 3 paychecks to go, assuming I have someone to share a hotel room with.

But take into consideration that some parents bring several children, and that's where I think attendance stands the biggest chance of falling. It may not, as those truely intent on going may well find it worth it to give up other things during the year to save.

And even though, yes, it is in Hawaii this year, it may well be back in the Continental US next year. They tend to move it around, so even if people can't go for '07, they can have that much more money to go in 2008, right? Just try and look on the bright side.
