Worlds 2008 Location Discussion

Ive heard from a PTO, one that wouldnt tell me the locations, but basically said that its going to be in a better location than Hawaii for the Next 2 years...

Actually Iceland is on my places where I'd love to visit. But it fits the criteria of an island in the middle of nowhere that is convenient to no one.

Put worlds in Seattle and rent out the Space Needle.

I've been up there before... the thing ROTATES!

The views are amazing, too. It would give us WA people a fighting chance... our opponents would be too busy staring out the windows to pay attention to the game!

Me being a naitve New Yorker, I'd be totally for Worlds to be New York City. They can even hold Worlds at the Javits Center. P.S.: Poliwag92 is right, the Pokemon Center is now the Nintendo World.

We have an Aberdeen here in Washington State, but I guarantee NO ONE wants it there!!!!

I second that. Seriously, I thought our location for State was bad....

Just the restaurant part, the only level that could hold enough people maxes out at 125 or something. And thats just with catering tables, not gameplay areas.

Reasons worlds will not be in Japan:

1. You think Hawaii is expensive? You have no idea.
2. Some regions of Japan are more crowded that others. Tokyo would be impossible, Osaka is maybe if you can find a place to stay.
3. Most americans drive cars. Japan, owning a car requires a permit stating you have a place to park it each night. Put simply, unless you can read Japanese text of Hiragana and Kanji, you WILL get lost on a train. Oh yeah, and your cell phone doesn't work so don't bother.
4. KIDS!!!!!!! Passports, airports, luggage, crowds, food of interesting smell and texture. None of these work well with kids.
5. Low drinking age. You have to be 18 in most of Japan to drink. Beer comes in vending machines (as does virtually everything else) and sake is on store shelves next to coca-cola. Most players would be okay, but there are those select few that would learn that hard way that sake-dry-mouth is far worse than any hangover ever could be.

I like worlds moving around, but location+cost+travel+grinder are all factors. Not to mention us adults having to take time off work. Pick a big city, some will like it some won't. Move it next year and the same thing will happen. I would love west coast or Seattle again. I am a 4 minute bus ride to downtown, so I'm completely biased. But Texas, Idaho, Montana, those are all good places too.

Japan? Tokyo? Osaka? Sapporo? Yeah it would be fun, but the logistics part would be a nightmare.

It will be held on the East Coast...

Now start guessing.....

I'm still trying to figure out exactly where "east coast" ends.

Coast only?

East of the Appalicians (I know I misspelled that, don't bug me)?

East of the Mississippi?

I'm pretty certain that west of the Mississippi is considered "west" these days...

East coast means east of the mountains. It is called the coast
because it is along the ocean. Along the mississippi is not the coast. Worlds should be in Baltimore. And if not there than at least the east coast. California has already had it at least once.

No, he said, the east coast. That means the USA.

Please tell me it's in Baltimore, that would be so great!! I would only have a 30min. drive to worlds. There's also allot to do/see there. We have Camden yards, one of the best aquariums in the US., a zoo, inner harbor, and TON'S of stuff to do thats just a short drive. There's Annapolis, the Navle Acadamy, and D.C., not to mention the Chessapeak Bay. Also it's around the middle of the east coast, which is perfect for travle reasones, theres also a big airport right out side of Baltimore, for those who are coming from over seas.
